Chapter 2 The Murderer
- "Don't move, or I'll kill her!”
- The man with a scar on his face pushed Ian away and pointed a gun at the head of a girl in a black skirt.
- All of a sudden, the noisy living room quieted down. The police halted in front of Ian. The scarred man was indeed the murderer.
- All the family members of the deceased were exasperated. They could not help clenching their fists. They did not expect the murderer was still in the house after murdering someone.
- Rosie was stunned too. She did not expect things to turn out like that. She could not help squinting at Ian. If Ian had not come to horse around at the crime scene, the murderer would not dare to reveal his identity and even capture a hostage in order to escape.
- If the murderer ran away in front of all the police, Rosie knew her career be over. As the team leader of the criminal investigation team, how could she face her superior later?
- The more Rosie thought about it, the angrier she became. How she wished she could shoot Ian on the spot. In fact, she kept asking why she had such an idiot husband.
- Seeing the murderous look in Rosie's eyes, Ian shrugged. "I... I told you… that… that he’s the murderer, but you don't believe me!”
- "Shut up!”
- Rosie was so angry that her face turned red. However, she still could not figure out how Ivan, who could not even solve a simple math question, figure out who the murderer was.
- However, Rosie had no time to argue now. She had more important things to do. There was no way she could let the murderer escape.
- Rosie took a deep breath and forced herself to calm down. Then she glared at the scarred man and warned, "Put the gun down! There’s nowhere to run!”
- "No! Give me a car right now!" The scarred man shouted with his finger on the trigger.
- “Help!" The girl in the black skirt sobbed. She was shivering, and her face turned pale.
- “All right! I'll drive. I got a jeep outside!" Rosie suddenly came up with an idea. She knew she would still have a chance to capture the murderer if she drove the car.
- However, the scarred man was not a fool. He glanced at Ian instead. "Can you drive?” he asked.
- "He can't drive!" Rosie interrupted before Ian could say anything. Rosie could not let Ian become the driver. The murderer would have held two hostages if Ian got involved.
- “Let him tell me himself!" The scarred man yelled back and stared at Ian again.
- "Of course, I can!” Ian nodded. He then patted his chest and promised, "Don't worry. I… I can drive… very fast. I’ll help you… get rid of them!”
- Hearing that, Rosie almost wanted to puke. Did he know what he is doing? Is he going to help the murderer escape now? Ivan Griffin, you idiot!
- Rosie could not help but sigh. It seemed that she would be handing in her badge very soon.
- However, the scarred man was excited. Is he a fool? He mused. Nonetheless, he was still happy. "Okay, you go and drive the jeep here!”
- “Sure!” Ian walked up to Rosie and reached out his hand. "Give me the car key!”
- "Are you crazy? He’s a murderer. Do you have a death wish?" Although Rosie hated Ivan, she had lived with him for nearly twenty years. She would feel guilty if he died like that.
- “Mdm. Young, just give him the car keys. We'll protect him." Keith, on the other hand, agreed for Ian to become the driver. In fact, he was aware that Ivan could not drive at all. As soon as Ivan stepped on the gas pedal, he would crash the car. If Ivan died, Keith could win Rosie over.
- "Hurry up!" The scarred man snorted impatiently and indicated he would pull the trigger.
- Tears welled up in the girl’s eyes. She could not help but tremble with fear. “Don’t… Please… Don’t kill me!”
- Rosie frowned. It seemed that the scarred man would kill the girl at any time. She had no choice but to hand the keys to Ian.
- After taking the keys, Ian limped out and got into the jeep. He started the engine, stepped on the gas pedal, turned the car around, and drove it to the front yard.
- “Hey, hop in!" With a smirk, Ian opened the car door and waved at the murderer.
- "Let's go!" The scarred man pushed the girl and walked out of the living room in a hurry.
- Seeing that Ian really drove the car to fetch the murderer, the girl quivered with anger. She could not help but rebuke. “Damn it. Is he crazy? Why is he doing this? Go to hell, brat!”
- "Don't worry. We will try our best to protect you!" Rosie followed the girl out and assured her. However, she still felt uncomfortable when the girl cursed Ivan. After all, Ivan was her husband.
- Nonetheless, Ian was responsible for the current situation. Not only that the murderer had two hostages, the situation was gradually getting out of control.
- “Don’t worry? It’s easy for you to say so. Why don't you be the hostage instead? If I die, all of you will be doomed!" The girl glared at Rosie. Obviously, she was in a panic.
- "Get into the car. If you keep shouting, I'll kill you right now!" The scarred man pushed the girl impatiently from behind and slammed the car door hard.
- The other policemen also quickly followed them from behind, with guns in their hands. Nonetheless, they dared not act rashly without Rosie's order. There were two hostages in the car. No one could afford the consequences if anything happened.
- The scarred man glanced at the police through the window and snorted slightly. He then looked at Ian and asked, ”Can you really get rid of them?”
- “Trust me. It’s just a piece of cake!" Ian assured him with a nod.
- "Okay, head to the suburb now. I'll give you one hundred thousand when we get there!”
- “Sure! Fasten your seat belt and sit tight!" Ian grinned and stepped on the gas pedal. As the engine roared, the jeep sped off with a cloud of black smoke.
- "What an idiot!" Rosie stamped her feet and chased after the jeep. “Why are all of you still standing there? Get in the car and chase them now!”
- It was not until then that Rosie’s subordinates came back to their senses and reacted accordingly. They quickly got into the car upon Rosie’s command and chased after the jeep Ian was driving.
- In the car, the girl could not help glaring at Ian with her big tearful eyes. If it weren't for the gun pointing at her head, she would have rushed up and bit him.
- The girl could not believe it. One should cooperate with the police to catch the murderer in a situation like that, but how could the man in front of her do such a thing? How could he help a murderer escape for the sake of one hundred thousand? Did he just escape from the mental hospital? Otherwise, why is he wearing a hospital gown? The girl wondered.
- The more the girl thought about it, the angrier she became. She kept kicking the front seat to vent her anger.
- However, Ian did not feel anything. He even turned on the music and hummed a melody. It seemed that he was not a hostage but a dashing young man taking his girlfriend for a ride.
- "Idiot! What a crazy brat!” The girl was so mad that she continued cursing him in a low voice.
- Half an hour later, Ian drove to the suburb. However, Rosie and his men were nowhere to be seen. Obviously, Ian had shaken them off.
- “We’re at the suburb now. So are you going to pay me cash or transfer the money to me?” Ian turned around and asked.
- “Cash, but I don't have any cash with me now. How about you go with me to get it?" The scarred man asked.
- “Sure! I'll go with you." Ian grinned.
- “Great!” The scarred man answered but could not help scoffing. There was even a flash of ridicule in his eyes. It was the first time he met such a fool. Instead of paying Ian, he was thinking to exploit Ian for more money.
- After getting out of the car, the scarred man pushed the girl up a small hill. They walked into the jungle with Ian following them at the back. Seeing Ian following them mindlessly, the girl could not help cursing again, “What a fool! What a stupid, crazy idiot!”
- Seeing the girl kept scolding him all the way, Ian could not help but refute, “Hey, it seems that you’re not that smart either!"
- "At least I’m smarter than you! I have never seen such a stupid person in the past 20 years.” The girl’s name was Cindy Jones. She was piqued when Ian refuted her.
- “Really? If you’re so smart, why are you still here?” Ian smirked.
- "That's all because of you!" Cindy widened her eyes. If eyes could kill, Ian would have died more than a hundred times.
- “Keep quiet. We're almost there!" The scarred man snorted and pushed Cindy into a cave.
