Chapter 5 Took the credit
- “Liar! I hate you!” Cindy cursed while beating the weeds with a stick. She had been living with her parents who had taken good care of her since young. She had never experienced such dangerous situations before. Not only she was pointed with a gun on her head, but she almost got molested. Moreover, Austin’s blood splashed into her mouth, making her almost wanted to puke. She lost her appetite, and it seemed that she wouldn’t be eating anything for at least half a month.
- The more Cindy thought about it, the angrier she became. Ian had been pretending all the way. He must be a police spy. Otherwise, how could he shoot someone without even blinking his eyes?
- What made Cindy more furious was that Ian walked away when Austin tried to molest her. Is he a man? No, he’s a bastard. Even if he’s a cop, he’s the worst cop that I’ve ever seen. Cindy exclaimed inwardly. It seemed that she could not forgive Ian for the rest of her life.
- Cindy cursed and did not notice there were many intersections all the way. It was not until a col appeared in front of her that she realized that she was lost. She raised her head and looked up at the sky. She was surrounded by tall mountains and could not tell where she was.
- Damn it! It was all his fault. Cindy was furious that she got lost.
- Cindy could not help but roll her eyes. She had no choice but to walk the path back to the cave. Ian must be heading out of the jungle too. She thought she should go back to look for him.
- However, as soon as Cindy turned around, she heard hissing sounds from the grass behind her. Nervously, she turned around and saw a pair of green eyes.
- “What is that? It looks like a wolf!” she exclaimed.
- Cindy was in fear. She could even feel her teeth chattering. Beads of perspiration wetted her shirt when she was retreating. However, she tripped over something, lost her balance, and fell to the ground.
- The wolf howled, showing its sharp teeth, and slowly approached Cindy.
- “Damn it, brat! Where are you?” For a moment, Cindy was thinking of Ian.
- In fact, Ian looked so cool when he was holding a gun. At least, Cindy felt secure when he was around. If that brat shows up the next second, I might forgive him.
- However, except for the sound of the rustling of leaves, and the painting of the wolf, no one came to her rescue.
- Tears welled up in Cindy’s eyes as she grasped the corner of her shirt. “Please, I beg you. Don’t eat me. My dad and my mom are still waiting for me to go home. Please, let me go!”
- However, how could the wolf understand what Cindy say? It growled and opened its mouth, ready to pounce on Cindy.
- Cindy was in despair. Tears kept streaming down her face. She hated Ian so much. If Ian had not came to the crime scene, Chad would not hold her hostage and kidnapped her.
- Everything happened because of Ian. Cindy swore to herself. Even if I become a ghost, I’m going to pester him for the rest of his life.
- However, the wolf did not attack Cindy even though its mouth was opened widely. Suddenly, a limping figure appeared in the wolf’s ferocious eyes. It was Ian. He walked slowly over with a dead female wolf in his hand.
- “Gosh! Thank god you’re here!" Cindy was relieved. It seemed that she did not hate him anymore.
- However, Ian shrugged and threw the female wolf on the ground. "It took me some time to kill this wolf. I’ve told you. Don't get lost as there are many intersections!”
- “I… I was not aware of it!” Cindy knew she was careless. Nonetheless, she still felt secure when Ian showed up.
- The wolf seemed intensely bloodthirsty when it saw its companion die. It howled and pounced on Ian instead.
- “Watch out!" Cindy yelled.
- “Don’t panic. It’s only a wolf!” With that, Ian stabbed the wolf with a wooden stick as big as his thumb into the wolf’s throat.
- The wolf growled and fell to the ground. It struggled for a moment and stopped moving.
- “I don’t know you can fight too!” Cindy gasped as her eyes widened. It seemed that Ian was not a simple man as she thought.
- Not only could he use a gun, he was good at fighting. Luckily, he was not good-looking. Otherwise, Cindy would treat him as her idol. In fact, Ian really looked so cool the moment he killed the wolf in one strike.
- Taking a look at Cindy, Ian shook his head. “You’re thinking too much. I don’t know how to fight. I happened to stab the wolf randomly just now. The wolf was just unlucky.”
- “Yeah, that makes sense. But what’s your job anyway? Are you a spy?” Following Ian from behind, Cindy kept bombarding him with questions.
- Ian felt a headache and refuted, “Do you think I look like a cop?”
- "No, I don't think so. You're limping, and not only that, you don’t even look smart. I don't think the police will hire you." Cindy felt she had made a wrong judgment. However, if Ian was not a spy, what was he?
- Cindy pondered for while and finally blurted, “You’re an assassin, right? No ordinary man could shoot so calmly without blinking his eyes. And by the way, you stammered when you were talking in the cave. Why are you not stammering now? You are pretending again, aren't you?”
- Hearing Cindy’s series of questions, Ian regretted saving her. I should just let the wolf eat her.
- "Hey, tell me. What the hell is your job?" Cindy kept asking.
- “I’m an idiot. You saw it, right? Why bother asking me now?” Ian sighed. Although his energy had recovered a little, it was still far from his expectation.
- Moreover, Ian always felt that his death was a mystery. Someone must have set him up. He decided to use Ivan’s body to investigate.
- Although Cindy kept asking Ian about his identity, Ian could not reveal much. He was afraid that the real killer would come after him if his identity was exposed.
- I’m so weak now. I’m not a match if my enemy comes after me!
- Ian remained quiet even though Cindy kept pestering him. However, as soon as he found the bodies of the three kidnappers at the spot where he left them, Cindy’s face turned pale. Pursing her lips, Cindy shut up immediately.
- However, before walking for a long time, several policemen appeared in front of them. The one who walked in the front was Keith. He spotted Ian at once.
- What? He’s still alive? Keith wondered. He could not believe his eyes. Moreover, he had 3 bodies behind him which seemed to be the kidnappers.
- Did he kill them?
- Keith was confused, but he still walked up to Ian and asked, "Did you kill all of them?”
- However, Ian shook his head. "No, they fight and rip themselves apart.”
- I see! Keith sighed.
- Keith then turned to Cindy and said, "Miss, I'm Keith from the criminal investigation team. I'll escort you down the mountain.”
- “Okay." Cindy was exhausted after walking for so long.
- Soon, Keith handed Cindy over to two policewomen.
- After the two policewomen and Cindy walked away, Keith walked toward Ian and asked, "Do you know you have committed a crime?”
- Ian shook his head. "What crime have I committed?”
- "You help the murderer escape. You’re suspected of harboring a murderer and could be sentenced to at least 5 years in prison.” Keith tried to sound serious.
- However, Ian knew what was on Keith’s mind. Nonetheless, he had to keep a low profile considering his current situation. So, he pretended and played along with Keith again.
- "I... I don't want… to go to jail!” Ian stammered and pretended to look frightened.
- “Well, if you don't want to go to jail, just follow my instructions and do as I said. No matter who asks you, tell them I’m the one who killed these three kidnappers. If you do as I said, I will take care of everything, and you don’t have to worry about anything.”
- Those kidnappers were wanted criminals. If Keith took the credit and told his superiors that he was the one who shot them, he would be promoted.
- Although Ian wanted to exchange the bodies for the reward, he did not want to fight with Keith. He nodded upon Keith’s suggestion. “Okay, as long as I don’t go to jail!”
- “Good!” Keith snorted. He then took out his pistol and shot at the three kidnappers. After that, he took out his walkie-talkie and reported, “Mdm. Young, I shot the murderer and the kidnappers!”
