Chapter 6 You Cannot Divorce Him
- At the foot of the mountain, the police sirens emitted an ear-piercing screech. It was particularly noisy in the quiet suburb.
- Sitting inside the car, Rosie frowned. How she wished she could go with the team to catch the bad guys personally. Not only that, she wanted to bring Ivan, her crazy husband back herself.
- Nonetheless, she was the officer in charge of that operation. She had to stay back to give instruction in order to take control of the overall situation.
- It was getting dark, and Rosie felt her heart sink. There were too many intersections in the jungle, and she had only dispatched 10 of her men for the rescue operation. She knew it was not easy to find the hostage in a situation like that.
- Rosie’s superior had demanded that she must find the hostage that day no matter what. Otherwise, she would be demoted to the clerk.
- Feeling exhausted, Rosie rubbed her temples. She was having a headache. How she wished she could kill Ivan. If he had not come to the crime scene, such things would not have happened.
- “Team A has not found the hostage yet. Over”
- “Mdm. Young, no target found yet. Over.”
- “Nothing from Team C too. Over”
- Four of the five teams were on their way back to the foot of the mountain. It was getting dark and difficult to search. Rosie had to ask her subordinates to come back for a rest before continuing the next round of searching.
- Rosie opened the car door and looked at the tall mountain in front of her. For the first time, she doubted her ability. Am I not fit to be a police officer? I can’t even control my own husband! How could I maintain order in Riverdale? she wondered.
- Just when Rosie was pondering, she heard Keith’s voice over the walkie-talkie. “Mdm. Young, I shot the murderer and the kidnappers.”
- “What? Keith, say it again!” Rosie was stunned. She immediately instructed Keith to repeat what he said.
- "I shot the murderer and the kidnappers. There were three of them. All of them were shot to death. Well... Your husband is here too," replied Keith.
- That's great!
- Rosie breathed a sigh of relief. "I'll send someone to support you right away.”
- Twenty minutes later, a group of policemen carried 3 corpses down the hill. However, everyone turned a blind eye to Ian. No one cared about him. If he had not helped the murderer escape, things would not get to this point. Luckily, Keith managed to shoot all the three kidnappers. Otherwise, the whole team would be in trouble.
- However, Ian was not bothered at all. He did not mind what others thought of him. In his past life, he was a well-known figure whom many people looked up to. Although he was only an idiot in the eyes of others now, he felt secure. His death was a mystery. He had to figure out who killed him no matter what.
- Nonetheless, Ivan’s body was too weak. It was not the right time to disclose his identity yet. For that reason, he had to keep a low profile.
- Just when Ian was about to sneak into the jeep, he heard Rosie’s voice.
- “Stop! Where do you think you’re going?”
- Hearing that, Ian froze at once. He shrugged and turned around to face Rosie. He had to admit Rosie was really beautiful. She was so charming even in her blue uniform. Wearing a pair of blue slacks, her legs looked even more slender. In fact, she could be regarded as the most beautiful woman in Riverdale if only she smiled.
- Before Ian died, he did not have many relationships with women. As a consequence, he became slightly enchanted when Rosie stood at a close distance from him.
- Click!
- Rosie snapped the handcuffs around Ian’s wrist. “You have committed a crime. You have to follow me back to the police station.”
- Damn! She’s virtuously upright! Ian could not help but murmur.
- Nonetheless, Ian still got into the police car. They can do whatever they want. I’ll just remain silent.
- After returning to the police station, Keith volunteered to interrogate Ian. He put all the blames on the murderer and kidnappers. With that, Ian was acquitted of the charge and released.
- In fact, only Ian and Keith knew what was the reason. Eventually, they reached a compromise.
- At the gate of the police station, Rosie had been waiting impatiently. She had changed her outfit and was wearing a white chiffon blouse that showed off her slender waist. Not only that, she had put on a pair of light blue jeans which again, showed off her slender legs. As soon as Ian walked out, she shouted at him, “Get in the car!”
- Ian knew he had caused Rosie a lot of trouble. He did not dare to refute and sat in the back seat at once.
- On the way back, Rosie remained silent. She did not even utter a word to Ian. However, as soon as they reached the Young residence, Rosie walked toward her father, Wilhelm Young, who was watching TV on the sofa. She then announced calmly, “Dad, I want to divorce him!”
- Hearing that, Ian, who was still taking off his shoes at the door, was stunned. Didn’t she refuse to divorce at the police station this morning?
- However, Ian did not want to divorce Rosie after what had happened. It was not because Rosie was beautiful, but because he found out too many secrets about Ivan.
- Although Ivan had an IQ of about 10 years old, he grew up with Rosie. It seemed that he gradually fell in love with her.
- Nonetheless, Ivan did not dare to confess his love. He was afraid that Rosie would look down on him. He could only lock himself in the study and drew Rosie every day for 10 years. In fact, he was still calling Rosie’s name on the day he met with an accident.
- Now that Ian took over Ivan’s body, their souls merged and became one. With that, Ian thought he had to fulfill Ivan’s wish and let Rosie know about Ivan’s true feelings.
- Ian walked over to the sofa and sat down. He wanted to apologize to Rosie, hoping that she would not divorce him. He even thought for a reason. He had to make Rosie believe that he was not in his right mind after the accident.
- However, Willhelm took a look at Ian and said gently, "Ivan, go upstairs and take a shower. You must be tired after a long day."
- “Okay, Dad!" Ian said awkwardly and went upstairs. He opened the door and stood behind it, trying to eavesdrop on what Willhelm was going to say.
- Willhelm put down the newspaper and glanced at Rosie. “Did you quarrel with Ivan again?”
- “Quarrel? He’s the one who started it. Do you know he came to the police station this morning asking for a divorce? He even helped the murderer escape. He is too smart. I can’t handle him anymore.” Rosie could not help venting all her anger.
- Rosie’s mother, Margaret Lowe, was stunned too. However, she agreed with Rosie. “Willhelm, I agreed with Rosie. You can’t sacrifice our daughter for the sake of keeping your promise to Ivan’s dad. Look at Ivan. He’s in his mid-twenties, but he can’t even earn a living. Not only that, he can’t even speak clearly.”
- “Stop! I don’t want to hear it anymore. Unless I die, no one is getting a divorce!” Willhelm was resolute and unswerving. He was the deputy chief of police and was very imposing when he was serious.
- “Willhelm, Ivan is a fool. Can you think about our future? Can we depend on him to carry on the family line?” Margaret was furious.
- "What did you say?" Willhelm was surprised as he continued. “Ivan’s father saved my life. Not only that, Ivan saved Rosie’s life. He was only four at that time. When Rosie fell into the water while skating, he was the only one who jumped into the cold water to save her. He was in a coma for a week. He became like that because of Rosie.”
- “Well…” Margaret was lost for words. What Willhelm said was true. Ivan was a cute and smart kid. Margaret remembered she was on a business trip that year. She did not know what really happened. She thought Rosie and Ivan were playing and fell into the water together.
- Rosie fell silent too. Although she was very young at that time, she remembered vaguely that a pair of hands reached out to her while she was struggling in the cold water. It turned out that the person who saved her was Ivan.
- Thinking of that, Rosie calmed down. Ivan was still her husband no matter how stupid he was. She had no choice but to spend the rest of her life with him.
- Rosie had nothing to say. She went upstairs to call Ivan down for dinner. However, as soon as she pushed the door open, she exclaimed. “Ivan, do you have a death wish?”
