Chapter 2 Impulsive Vow To An Enigmatic Husband
- When Marcus spotted the female looking at him without hesitation, he scowled slightly. Despite his position as president of the Hartley Group, his attractive appearance drew many ladies to him, which angered him. Helena observed this and prodded Cornelia, "What are you daydreaming about?" Cornelia jolted back to reality and swiftly adjusted her mood: "President Hartley, good to meet you; my name is Cornelia. I've been working at the Hartley Group headquarters for less than a year." Her self-introduction was powerful, making her stand out more than the prior two speakers. "Comelia?" Marcus slowly repeated the name, which felt slightly familiar. He looked at Cornelia again, and she didn't gaze back, which made him feel much more comfortable.
- "Let her stay." Helena nodded and led the three out of the office. "Cornelia, go move your stuff to the special assistant's office." "Alright." Cornelia returned to her desk and began to gather her personal stuff. Working with the president meant that their pay would at least double. All three were the winners of a number of selection processes, and they all wanted this promotion. However, Cornelia, the one with the least experience, received the best promotion, leaving the other two unsatisfied. However, Yolanda quickly understood that this was not right. Cornelia's abilities were well recognized, and they couldn't reject her potential simply because she was young and inexperienced. She grinned and hugged Cornelia, saying, "Cornelia, congratulations!"
- Cornelia said, "Thank you!" But Eden wasn't as generous. He cynically said, "Yolanda, you should learn more. It's not simply good job skills that get you promoted; you also need to know how to entice people." He didn't identify names, so whoever stepped out to rebut would appear guilty. He believed Cornelia could do nothing about his defamation. Cornelia looked at him, her eyes cold. "Eden, do you think you're qualified to slander President Hartley?" Eden's face paled as he realized what this meant. Yolanda went on to say, "Eden, seeing a woman more outstanding than you and then maliciously slandering her really is shady." "Yolanda, I'll head over there now." Cornelia expressed gratitude to Yolanda before leaving with her package.
- Cornelia entered the special assistant's office, and Helena observed her for a minute. "President Hartley chose you today, but whether you can work by his side for a long time will depend on your abilities." She added, her voice somewhat serious, "Remember, President Hartley despises subordinates with ulterior motives." "Don't ruin your own future." Marcus never appeared in the media, so the public had no idea what he looked like. However, he has consistently topped the list of Riverton's most eligible bachelors. Cornelia had no wrong ideas regarding Marcus, but expressing them might not be taken seriously. She believed that performing well at work would be more compelling than any explanation. She responded by saying, "Thank you for the reminder; I'll be careful." Helena saw her earnest demeanor and softened her look. "I'll hand over the work to you now."
- The Hartley Group president's secretariat had a large workforce, but he only had two special aides with him: Helena and Ben, who each had specialized tasks. Helena was more like his personal secretary, taking care of all the intricacies of his life. The president's secretary needed to be aware of the president's particular preferences, habits, and taboos, which Cornelia had already memorized. Helena and Cornelia spent the morning passing over work, leaving Cornelia to confront the president alone in the afternoon. After lunch, Cornelia poured an iced Americano and knocked on the president's office door. A deep and lovely masculine voice spoke from within, "Come in." Cornelia arrived and noticed Marcus seated at his desk, reading a document.
- She positioned the coffee 30 centimeters to his left and said, "President Hartley, the meeting with Digital Sports Technology is at 2:10 in ten minutes." Marcus didn't even move his head, precisely picking up the coffee and sipping, "Mm." Marcus's other special assistants, Ben and Cornelia, arrived at the meeting ten minutes later. During the meeting, Ben was in charge of recording the content, while Cornelia prepared the president's materials. Marcus seldom talked and spent much of his time listening to his subordinates and the opposing party. He'd occasionally intervene, and he'd always get it right. Cornelia understood exactly what he needed with a simple raising of his hand or a shift in his eyes, and she quickly delivered him the supplies. Ben couldn't believe how well the two communicated during the meeting.
- If he hadn't known Cornelia had just been promoted, he'd assume she'd been working with President Hartley for years. More than three hours later, the conference concluded satisfactorily, and Cornelia and Ben returned to Marcus' office. They were going to report on their next projects when Marcus' private phone called. When Marcus answered the phone, he heard Granny Luisa's frail voice: "Marc, now that you're back in the country, hurry up and bring your wife home." You can't let her live outside alone any longer. If you don't bring her back, I'm going to stay at Southern Summer Garden until I die and never return home." Marcus adjusted his silver-framed glasses on his nose. "Even if you didn't say anything, I was planning on picking her up today." Granny Luisa became so pleased when she received the news that she completely forgot she was pretending to be ill.
- Her voice immediately rose a few notches. "I'll send you her address, and you go pick her up in person after work!" Marcus agreed, hung up the phone, and listened to the reports from his two assistants. Nobody anticipated Marcus asking, after hearing the stories, "What do you think I should prepare to meet a girl?" Ben had been with Marcus for several years and normally chatted lightly. "Well, that depends on what kind of girl you're meeting." Marcus smiled. "My wife." When they registered their marriage last year, the Hartley Group's French division ran into some issues. After completing the papers and collecting their marriage certificate, he went to the airport to leave for another nation, and it had been a hectic year since.
- During this period, she never contacted him, and he was too busy to contact her either. Without his grandmother's continual pestering, he would have forgotten he was married. Now he's returning to live a wonderful life with her and make amends with her. Ben was aware that their employer had registered his marriage with a woman a year earlier, but he had not communicated with her for the entire year. He felt that the employer was only attempting to placate his grandmother. But it doesn't appear to be the case presently. Ben immediately had an idea:
- "Sir, before you returned to the nation, you spent 30 million dollars in Paris on a necklace named 'Constellation'. Is this a present for your wife? Marcus reacted with a "What else could it be?" expression and stated, "I'm asking you guys a question." How could Ben, who has no dating experience, provide useful advice? He went on to ask, "With a necklace worth $200 million, do you need to prepare anything else?" Marcus gazed at Ben coldly, and Ben shuddered in terror, pushing Cornelia forward. "To find out what young girls like, Mr. Marcus, you should ask a young girl, of course."
