Chapter 6 You're Just a Coward

  • "Get my medical team to Bilchester Hospital immediately and have Colonel Westin head over there, too!" Zachary barked out the orders before quickly leaving, jumping into the waiting black Porsche sports car.
  • He sped back to the hospital, and when he reached the surgery room, the operation was still ongoing.
  • Carolina stood by the emergency room door, her eyes red and swollen from crying. Why did Viviana have to have the same rare blood type as Zachary?
  • If she were still the glamorous eldest daughter of the Fishers, maybe she could use her connections to get blood for Viviana, just like she had once helped Zachary. But now, she was nothing! She could only watch helplessly as Viviana's life slowly slipped away on that cold operating table!
  • Five years ago, Zachary left without a word and never returned.
  • Five years later, her daughter, whom she raised on her own, couldn’t receive a blood transfusion because of the rare blood type inherited from him!
  • "Carolina," Zachary approached her, his heart aching as he looked at Carolina, wanting to hug her. "It's going to be alright. I already … "
  • Slap! Carolina slapped Zachary across the face.
  • "Carolina?" Zachary was stunned.
  • "Get lost! I don't want to see you!" Carolina cried out, covering her face. "Why does Viviana have to have your blood? What are we going to do now? What are we supposed to do? There isn't any spare blood in the entire Bilchester!"
  • "Carolina … " Zachary's hand froze in mid-air.
  • Zachary saw Carolina looking haggard and disheveled, wearing cheap, low-quality clothes she had never worn before.
  • He couldn't imagine what she had endured over the past five years, raising their child alone and suffering so much.
  • "Holy Sovereign, Colonel Westin has arrived!" A woman in a black suit silently reported as she stood behind Zachary.
  • The sound of military boots echoed as a burly man in casual clothes approached Zachary quickly. He saluted and was about to speak when Zachary interrupted, "This is urgent. Go donate blood first. I appreciate your help!"
  • "Understood!" The man turned and headed towards the blood donation room.
  • "Don't worry." Zachary spoke with difficulty to Carolina, "A friend of mine has the same blood type as me. He'll donate blood for Viviana."
  • Zachary turned to look at the emergency room door. Viviana was still unconscious on the operating table. No matter what, he had to save her.
  • After the blood transfusion, the surgery still wasn't over.
  • Carolina sat exhausted on a corridor bench, her face pale.
  • Zachary crouched in front of her and softly asked, "Why? After all these years, why didn't you tell me about Viviana? Did you think I wasn't fit to be a father? Then why did you have Viviana? Isn't the Fishers a big family? Why have you and Viviana fallen so low, with her not even having a new set of clothes?"
  • Zachary's heart was filled with too many questions.
  • "Exactly. You're not fit. You're just a coward. Back then, you couldn't handle the pressure and left Viviana and me behind. You're not a real man!" Carolina shouted, completely forgetting they were in a hospital.
  • "Quiet, the doctors are operating!" A nurse came out and glared at them.
  • The two of them fell silent, staring at each other.
  • After anxiously waiting for half an hour, the operating room light finally turned green.
  • The doctor emerged, looking weary. Upon seeing Zachary and Carolina, he sighed deeply.
  • "How is my daughter?" Carolina asked anxiously.
  • "The patient is temporarily out of danger, but her liver is severely damaged and will require a liver transplant. Otherwise, she might not make it through the week." The doctor explained with a grave expression.
  • "Viviana!" Carolina collapsed to the floor, her entire body going limp.
  • Zachary, overwhelmed with frustration, slammed his fist against the wall with a resounding thud.
  • "Go start the liver transplant matching process right away. The patient's condition can't afford any delay," the doctor said before walking off.
  • Carolina struggled to get up and went to check on Viviana.
  • Simon, who had donated blood, respectfully approached Zachary and bowed. "Holy Sovereign."
  • Anyone who knows Simon would be utterly shocked by what they're seeing. The renowned Colonel Westin of the Holy Sovereign's Palace is bowing his precious head before an ordinary man.
  • "Well. Long time no see. Simon."
