Chapter 7 When She Is A Boss

  • FOUR YEARS LATER
  • Good morning, boss." Kisha greeted Mia.
  • "Morning, Kisha? What's with the boss? We are partners."
  • Moving to Seattle without knowing anyone and being pregnant hasn't been easy for Mia, but with the help of her newfound friend Kisha, she was able to manage and pull through.
  • Now she is doing just fine, and she is also the co-founder and CEO of a company.
  • "Whose car were you coming out from, boss?" Kisha asked, teasing Mia. She knew whose car it was but wanted a reaction from her.
  • "Mia, are you sure nothing is going on between you two?" Kisha asked
  • "Can't you see the love he has for you? It's written all over him, Mia." He kept teasing Mia.
  • "He is hot, financially stable, a doctor, and from a well-off family. What is stopping you from being with Maxwell Harrington?"
  • "I don't know, Kisha. I really don't see him that way. I appreciate his effort and all; it's just something I myself can't explain." Mia said
  • "You clearly like him, don't you?" Kisha knew it all; she kept shipping her friend to Maxwell.
  • Kisha did not miss all the stolen glances from both her friend and Maxwell—the flirting, the way he just makes her feel loved again.
  • "I'm a mother of two, Kisha, and I don't want any family drama for now. I just want to focus on my kids, on them alone." She said this as she walked into her office.
  • "Speaking of which, how about the audit report I requested?" Mia asked Kisha, while grabbing her pen, to sign some documents that had been pending on her table.
  • Mia owns an event planning company and an event centre, and with the help of her friend Kisha, they plan to build a luxurious hotel that would be a good spot for relaxation, have a magnificent event hall, and all that.
  • So far, the project has been going fine, but they needed more cash. Mia's project is very big, and she does not want to collect money from her brother or Maxwell.
  • She made a promise to herself to be self-sufficient and live for herself and her children after the divorce.
  • They have managed high-profile events, and of course, with the help of her brother helping from New York and Maxwell bringing in high clients for them with his influence.
  • "On it, boss," Kisha replied.
  • "Boss, there is something I have to tell you."
  • "Our revenue has been dropping significantly with lots of bills to pay, and we need a very high-ranking client and some miracle."
  • "Get to the point, Kisha. I know you're going somewhere."
  • "I have applied on behalf of the company for the bid to be the event planner for the launching ceremony of a jewellery company with a branch here in Seattle."
  • "OK, and?" Mia knew Kisha had more to say.
  • "And..." Kisha kept playing with her fingers, a habit she has when she is nervous.
  • "And what, Kisha?" Mia asked.
  • "Promise you won't be mad." Kisha asked with a hint of guilt. She was about to reluctantly open up to her friend, but right now, they were cornered.
  • "It's Sinclair Holdings, your ex-husband's family company," she finally dropped the bombshell.
  • "Mia, listen, I did my findings from the roots and got to know it's not under your husband's care. It's an affiliate of their company, managed by his cousin.
  • It won't bring you any harm, Mia, and I would be the one to represent us." Kisha tried to talk Mia into agreeing, trying to convince her. She felt guilty, but nevertheless, they could use the Sinclair money to establish their hotel.
  • For the first 5 minutes, Mia was short on words. She can't be selfish.
  • Their company needed that money, and the Sinclairs are rich enough to pay for their service. It would elevate their brand name for more projects, but facing that family again, she never thought anything would bind them together.
  • "Mia, please; I just need you to think it over. I can't make a decision without you," Kisha pleaded with Mia, holding her hand. They were now cold and sweaty.
  • Mia's hands were tied; she had to accept, and the money they were willing to pay was too good if they could bag the contract.
  • "OK, Kisha, let's do it. What could be the harm? We need the cash. Let's make money move." Mia kept saying jokes and laughing it off, but deep down, she was nervous and scared but didn't want to show it.
  • Kisha knows her friend too well to know she was nervous. "Mia, you know you can be angry; you are allowed to be angry, sad, or scared. Don't bottle them up. Just know I'm always here for you."
  • "I know, Kish, and yes, I'm nervous. I don't want to have my hopes too high. What if we lose the bid, and most of all, I don't want to face any members of the Sinclairs, let alone my ex-husband?"
  • "I get you, Mia. Don't worry about that; you don't have to be present. You will work underground; it's just a one-time thing, and we cash out big, and it's over."
  • "And besides, I heard your husband, Xavier, won't be coming. He has an interview with Glamour about his increase in billionaire wealth and acquiring other subsidiary companies, including a tech company."
  • "You know your ex-husband is a hotshot and a workaholic, right? His tech company is one of the fastest-rising in the country."
  • "Anything your ex-husband touches turns to gold, right? And if we can bid on this, it is automatically attached to our company portfolio. Everyone wants to work with whoever has worked with the Sinclairs."
  • "You really went deep into his history, Kish?" Mia was surprised by her friend's deep knowledge of him.
  • "I'm sorry if that hurt you, but I had to do some digging to know more about his whereabouts to protect you," Kisha responded.
  • "Fine, Kisha, it's a deal. You're in charge; make us rich. And I will secretly be behind the scenes for you; from here, you take the lead."
