Chapter 5 Her Unknown Pregnancy Report

  • Walking out with both her bare legs, she just kept going. She had no idea where she was going under this heavy rain.
  • She wasn't feeling anything; she just kept walking in the direction her legs could carry her.
  • Going back home was not an option for me because she was already disowned.
  • Her legs started aching, and she needed a place to rest. Her eyelids were becoming heavy, and she was having trouble keeping them open.
  • Looking at her surroundings, she just realised she was at a playground.
  • With her tired legs, she dragged herself to one of the swings, got comfortable on it, and slept off.
  • Mia felt herself being shook by rough hands immediately; the smell of cinnamon hit her, and she felt like puking. Her eyes shot open to see a man covered in tattoos. In one of his arms, he oddly looked not scary at all, but then he was a stranger, and she had to be very wary of her surroundings.
  • Are you lost, sweetheart? He asked her.
  • Her mind got the better of her as she rose from where she was seated, despite the throbbing headache she was having.
  • Immediately, she was about to take off her heels and run; she wasn't going to be kidnapped just like that without a fight. The stranger grabbed her arm, not with a hard and painful grip but firm enough to hold her still, and she turned to see that the expression on his face had softened.
  • "Sorry, I scared you," he apologised to her.
  • She couldn't keep up with what he was saying because he was close to her, and the mint smell coming from him was a big issue. It kept messing with her system and making her feel like puking.
  • Snatching her hand from him, she dashed hurriedly to a clear space and released everything in her guts. Not like she ate much today to begin with.
  • "You look sick," the stranger said behind her back, and she jolted in response because it was unexpected how he crept behind her.
  • "Don’t run," he said, sounding genuine. "I would just take you to the hospital." Feeling like he needed to explain himself, he further went on to explain what brought him to the park at this hour of the night. Apparently, he came to clear his mind here and forgot his wallet.
  • She doesn’t know this man. What if he is a kidnapper and is pretending? She tried to walk away, but her legs were wobbling and giving out on her.
  • The last thing she remembered was the man calling out to reach her before she blacked out.
  • *****
  • Beep, beep, beep.
  • Slowly, she opened her eyes but shut them immediately due to the bright light entering.
  • Where am I? She asked herself, trying to take in her surroundings.
  • She was at the hospital, and then the memories of that night flashed before her eyes.
  • She felt the pain of betrayal all over again.
  • Just in time, the door opened, and someone walked in. Judging from the way she dressed, it was obvious she was a nurse.
  • You've been out for two days.
  • A kind young man brought you here in his car when you were unconscious," the nurse continued.
  • "He saw you at a playground and thought you weren't feeling fine. You're lucky he is a doctor because he was able to administer first aid treatment to you before reaching the hospital."
  • As she attempted to sit on the hospital bed, she felt a sharp pain in her stomach. Another figure walked through the door—a doctor—and this time the face oddly looked familiar, but she couldn't tell where exactly she knew him from.
  • His blue eyes were the first thing you would notice about him, looking directly at her like he could read her soul. The nurse followed closely behind him.
  • She couldn't avoid staring at him, and he noticed that.
  • "You're lucky I found you when I saw you two days ago. It wouldn't be the same story we would be telling now," he said.
  • It immediately kicked in; he was the stranger with the tattooed hand she met at the playground.
  • He looked different, and he is a doctor?. Her bulging eyes could not go unnoticed with how surprised she was.
  • "You..." she couldn't form a simple word, bending her head in shame.
  • He just replied, "Don't judge a book by its cover.".
  • "I am Doctor Maxwell Harrington," he introduced himself.
  • "What were you doing outside so late at night? Don't you know your baby's life depends on you, and you have to take care of yourself first?"
  • "What... what is he saying?" She looked at him directly in the eyes. "What baby are you talking about?"
  • "Don't you know you are pregnant?" the doctor stranger asked her while writing a note on the chart book he brought with him.
  • Why hadn't this news come earlier? She probably wouldn't have been thrown out of her house, let alone be in the hospital.
  • The tears she was fighting so hard to contain couldn't hold, tears of joy, relief, and hope; she just let them fall freely.
  • "Has anyone seen my phone?" She asked them while still searching for it in the wardrobe beside the bed.
  • The doctor handed her her phone, and as she opened it, she saw a text message from her brother asking her about her whereabouts and the news of her husband getting engaged to her sister. He had barely asked for a divorce, and now he was getting engaged to spite her.
  • To be gone from his life quickly made her question her existence.
  • She held her belly and promised herself to be strong for her child and to shower the child with all the love she never got.
  • Baby, it's me and you against the world. Mia kept taking it to herself while rubbing her belly.
  • Mia made up her mind to move on and leave everything behind her.
