Chapter 9 Superior Subordinate Relationship
- Denise turned around in the direction the voice came from, only to see Alex stalking toward her.
- "And who said I have to tell you when I leave? Alex Harmon, it is after working hours and I am not your subordinate. I have the freedom to do what I want to do."
- She thought the man was an oddball.
- Right then, a car came to a stop in front of them, and the driver came down from the passenger seat to open the door for them.
- She recognized that it was Alex's car.
- "It is late." He looked elsewhere as he mumbled, "It is unsafe for you to grab a ride by yourself. We will go home together so that you can't blame the Harmons in case something happened to you."
- His words brought a frown to her face. "Don't worry if you are thinking I would try to scam you for your money. I don't need your family's money."
- Denise tried to leave again after she said that, but Alex quickly held her by the wrist. "Get in the car!" he commanded.
- Seeing her angry gaze, he added, "I already promised Grandpa I would try to get along with you. I have to make sure you are safe these three months."
- In other words, he was forcing her to leave with him because he didn't want to be held responsible for any accident.
- When she heard that, Denise pulled away and stomped into the car first, her face impatient.
- Before she came, she already knew that it was impossible for her to make any progress with Alex in these three months. Him being a man with a bad personality, a foul temper, and a stupid mouth now only further confirmed her point.
- Denise couldn't help wondering how someone as bright as her grandfather would make such a silly choice when choosing a husband for her.
- Mildred had followed Alex when she saw him leave the banquet hall. Now that she had seen with her own eyes how Alex and Denise left in the same car, she couldn't hold herself back from stomping her feet in a fit of jealousy.
- I would be the one sitting in his car if I was his fiancée. Denise Lawson is nothing compared to me!
- Mildred swiftly took out her phone from her bag and made a call. "You said you wanted to be my friend, didn't you? You have to show me your sincerity by giving me a present."
- Even though Selina was only Alex's head secretary, she had had the opportunity to meet Mildred during a banquet. She had also been denied from entering the higher social circle then.
- That was why she was eager to agree to helping Mildred, now that the latter was the one who called her. "Of course! What can I do for you, Miss Xavier?"
- "It is something simple. Denise Lawson is under your supervision now. I am sure it won't be hard for you to give her a taste of your authority and make her suffer a little bit."
- Mildred came to a brief pause before continuing, "If you carry it out well, you can pick one of the latest handbags no matter its price."
- Seline was somewhat hesitant at first, but she immediately perked up when she heard Mildred's offer. "How generous. As expected of you, Miss Xavier. Don't worry, you can leave this to me."
- "Confident you will get it done, aren't you?"
- "Of course. Denise Lawson is just a small-time secretary. Mr. Harmon has never bothered himself with her, and the employees of the company leave her alone as well. It will be easy to make her life hard."
- Mildred was already in a much better mood when she heard that Alex didn't care about Denise much at the company.
- "I am counting on you. You will be compensated fairly as long as you do the job well."
- …
- In the back seat of the car, there was a large gap between Alex and Denise.
- He turned his head to look at her, only to see her still in the same pose as she looked outside the window.
- "You are good at the piano. When did you start learning it?"
- Hearing this, Denise looked at him with her eyebrows raised. She didn't think he would ask her outright even though she knew he would be curious. "Was I good? I have only just started playing the piano."
- She cheerfully chortled when the man was rendered speechless by her answer. "I remembered it after seeing Mildred play it once. I am pretty smart, aren't I?"
- Riled up, Alex looked away. "It is impossible to communicate with a woman like you."
- "Don't try communicating with me then. You were the one who started the conversation, okay?"
- Denise, too, turned her head the other way.
