Chapter 8 Dream On!
- The small group of people began to exchange pleasantries. Everyone in the outside world knew that Yoseph Lawson and James Harmon were family friends, and they could be said to have dominated the business industry back then.
- However, Yoseph had sold the company many years ago and withdrew from the business circle. People hadn't heard much about him all these years, but rumor was that he traveled around the world with his granddaughter.
- Despite that, the Lawsons' influence was still spread all over the country.
- Andrew took out the gifts prepared by Yoseph, which included a world-famous painting, a piece of land in the south of the city worth hundreds of millions, and many more.
- The Lawsons had always been extravagant when it came to their presents.
- Denise couldn't help how her heart ached at them spending precious money on the Harmons…
- However, she was glad that Andrew hadn't blown her cover, or else this wouldn't be as fun as it was anymore. With how snobbish Catherine was, she definitely wouldn't let Denise leave after three months if she were to know the truth.
- Alex might even fall for Denise because of how wealthy she actually was.
- As she was daydreaming, one of Mildred's friends chimed in, "The Lawson Family sure is well-off! Now that reminds me—didn't you meet the Lawsons' granddaughter at the fashion show in Provis, Mildred?"
- The granddaughter of the Lawson Family had always been nothing more than a legendary figure. Few people knew her name, let alone had seen her.
- "I did!" Mildred nodded. "She is gorgeous!"
- "Mildred is so amazing. She added her on WhatsApp, and Miss Lawson even told Mildred that she will hang out with Mildred when she comes to Atland!" another friend added.
- "Woah! You are great, Mildred!"
- After hearing this, Denise raised her eyebrows slightly and looked at Mildred.
- Mildred, who noticed the gaze, looked back at her. "Yes, Miss Lawson?"
- "You have met the granddaughter of the Lawson Family?"
- Mildred nodded in response.
- "What's the matter? You are super jealous of Mildred, aren't you? How do you share the same name, only for you to be so different from Miss Lawson?"
- Denise only chuckled when she heard their words. Bunch of fools, she thought.
- Mildred suddenly felt confused when she saw the way Denise's lips were curled into a smile. Could she have found out that I have never seen the granddaughter of the Lawson Family? Impossible! How could she have found out? Looks like I am imagining things now.
- As Mildred started to panic, she saw Denise shake her head and leave with a sigh, the corner of her mouth curled upward into a mocking smile.
- Mildred's reasoning told her that Denise shouldn't have known, but she couldn't help panicking even more. This was a feeling that annoyed her. How dare a bumpkin put on that tough act when she is not even all that? Hmph!
- A glint suddenly appeared in Mildred's eyes when she came up with an idea. She gradually let out a crooked smile as she watched Denise's retreating figure.
- Denise brought a glass of dessert wine and she went to sit in a quiet corner.
- When she felt someone's eyes on her, she followed her instincts and happened to meet Alex's eyes through the crowd.
- Alex had been looking at Denise the whole time after she was done with her piano performance.
- He was in the midst of thinking about why she played the piano, and how she seemed to be born with a noble temperament that no girl from the countryside should have when he noticed her looking at him. Alex's heart skipped a beat, and he quickly came back to his senses.
- However, he saw Denise treat him like thin air immediately after. She merely threw him a glance before her eyes swept elsewhere.
- His temper started to boil for no reason, and his chest grew stuffy.
- Taking a sip of the dessert wine, Denise snickered at an angle no one else saw. She knew what Alex was thinking when he was looking at her earlier. Someone as petty and arrogant as him was probably waiting to make fun of her at first, but he ended up receiving the surprise of his life when she played the piano so beautifully.
- Trying to ridicule me? Dream on!
- She didn't like dealing with such a self-centered man, but she convinced herself that these three months were a period for her to toughen herself up. It would all be over in the blink of an eye.
- Denise sat there by herself for a long time and when she thought it was time to leave, she walked out and tried to grab herself a cab.
- It surprised her when Alex's voice suddenly rang out from behind. "Who gave you the permission to leave without saying anything?"
