Chapter 12 Afraid of the Dark
- Just as she was packing up, she received a call from Selina.
- "How long do you still need to finish?"
- "I'm done."
- "What? Are you sure you checked everything thoroughly to make sure that there are no mistakes?"
- Selina did not expect Denise to actually finish everything this early.
- Trying to suppress her temper, Denise said, "I'm positive. If there's nothing else, I'm going to hang up. I need to go home."
- "You can't! You can't get off work now!" Selina's voice suddenly raised a pitch.
- Denise had just taken a step forward and stopped. "Why?"
- "I just just received a call from Mr. Robinson. He said there's another set of data that needs to be added in. I'm bringing it to you now, so wait there."
- "Can't you send the data over to me? It'll be too late if I wait for you."
- "I can't. The data is complicated and you've never handled it before. It will end badly if you make any mistakes, so just wait for me. Don't be impatient. I'm already at home, but I still have to head back and do OT with you, so what's there to moan about? Also, what can I do when Mr. Robinson suddenly contacts me for this?"
- "I understand."
- Thinking that Selina would not sacrifice her personal time just to make things difficult for her since it was already so late at night, Denise did not think much about it and went back to her desk.
- She listened to music while playing a game she usually used to relax, but when she looked at the time, she found that forty minutes had passed and there was still no sign of Selina.
- After going to the bathroom and playing on her phone some more, she found that another twenty minutes had passed, but Selina had still not arrived, so she called her.
- "When are you arriving?"
- "I hailed a cab to save time, but there was a car accident on the road, which caused some heavy traffic. I think I'll be there in another half an hour. Today is such an unfortunate day. First, it's Mr. Robinson suddenly calling me to head back, and then it's heavy traffic. Hey, sir. Please drive faster. I'm in a rush!"
- Listening to Selina's complaints, Denise felt her head throb as she grew even more impatient. "Hurry up, then."
- Meanwhile, Selina was still at home. When she saw Denise hang up, she smiled victoriously before heading into the bathroom.
- Just continue to wait. You won't see me no matter how long you wait.
- Another forty minutes had passed, but Selina was still nowhere to be seen. At this point, Denise's patience had run dry.
- So, she phoned Selina again. "Selina Summers. Are you planning to stay the night with me at the company?"
- In the meantime, Selina was comfortably lying on her couch with a facial mask on while complaining, "Why do you keep calling me? Do you think I'm not anxious? What else can I do besides that? Just wait a little more. I'll be there in ten minutes, I promise. Hey, sir, can you drive quicker? Can we get there in ten minutes? Yes? Alright, I'll…"
- "I'll wait for another ten minutes. If I don't see you then, I'll go home and you can enter the data yourself."
- Watching Denise hang up again, Selina sneered and threw her phone aside before leisurely eating her grapes.
- Meanwhile, Denise felt something was not right, so she thought about it for a moment and sent Selina's number to someone. "Check where this person is."
- Five minutes later, that person sent her a reply.
- When she saw that Selina's location was in a residential area, she finally realized what had happened and became furious!
- How dare Selina trick me!
- It seemed like she was still too kind to think people like Selina would come over after hours for work!
- After picking up her bag, she started walking out of the company while devising a plan, but before she could leave the office, the lights suddenly turned off.
- The empty office space was suddenly plunged into darkness.
- Denise stood dumbfounded in place as she looked around her surroundings with a terrified expression while slowly returning to her cubicle. Then, she frantically grabbed her phone from her bag and turned on the flashlight.
- She had always been afraid of the dark.
- The fear she felt came from deep inside her. Her hands and feet were cold, and she was trembling all over.
- At this moment, she was curled up into a ball while hiding under her desk. Although there was light from her phone, it did not help much with her fear. When she thought about her dark surroundings and the fact that she was all alone, she was terrified.
- What's happening?
- Did the electricity go out?
- When will it come back?
- She wanted to call the security guard, but she discovered that she did not have their contact number. In addition, she was so nervous that her mind went all blank.
