Chapter 97
- As Lisa walked the final block to her apartment, she pulled her coat closer around her. Although Chris and Amber had made a concerted effort to lift her spirits in the past few days, she had undoubtedly still spent some time worrying about Mason. It had been a cruel reminder of Mason's betrayal and a kick in the face. She enjoyed working with Mason. Yes, it was a thistledown job that served as a cover for their extramarital affair, but as time went on, she grew more responsible and took ownership of the position.
- She’d proven to herself that she could take on a challenge and nail it. Now she was back to selling pastries and filling customers’ coffee cups. And while before it had never bothered her, now she was unsettled, and she wanted more. More of a challenge. It was time for her to stop being afraid and to go out there and make her future.
- No one else was going to do that for her. Already she was perusing her career options. Looking at job openings that would fit her level of education and experience—not that she had much. Maybe she could talk to Chris. Not about working for him. But Chris might have ideas or may even know other people that she could reach out to. She could work with any one of them and never have to worry about seeing Mason. But that might require moving, and was she ready to do that?
