Chapter 1 Who Am I

  • At the Quantrill residence in Jadeborough, a young man in a wheelchair was snoring softly as he slept.
  • His eyes were tightly shut, his head was tilted, and saliva was flowing out of the corner of his mouth, making him look like a complete fool.
  • Suddenly, the young man's eyes shot wide open as though he had just woken up from a nightmare.
  • His back was drenched in cold sweat, and he was gripping the armrest of his wheelchair tightly with both hands.
  • He looked like he was in a daze as he panted heavily, and the last part of his dream was all he could think about.
  • “You're the biggest obstacle in my plans, Osmond Lestrange! I'll make sure you suffer for the rest of your pathetic little life!”
  • The person in his dream was gritting their teeth like they wanted to eat Osmond alive.
  • “Who am I? I... I'm Osmond Lestrange!”
  • The hazy look in his eyes slowly faded as an icy coldness took its place.
  • Osmond Lestrange was an orphan before being adopted by Grady Lemar, who happened to be an old general in the fourth division of the Venisa Army.
  • He grew up at the northwest border and had been trained by the military since he was a child. Osmond officially joined the army at the age of fifteen and obtained countless medals for his outstanding gallantry on the battlefield.
  • At the age of twenty, he was promoted to Nine-Star Commander and led millions of soldiers in the northwest.
  • When Grady died in battle at the hands of their enemies, Osmond avenged him by attacking them with his millions of soldiers and killing ten enemy commanders.
  • Exhausted after the battle, Osmond collapsed and fell unconscious for a prolonged period of time.
  • Unfortunately for him, some of his subordinates betrayed him by poisoning him while he was unconscious.
  • That resulted in severe brain damage for Osmond, leaving him mentally disabled and paralyzed below the waist.
  • A cold sneer slowly formed on Osmond's face as he recalled everything that had happened.
  • Now that I've regained my memories, it's time to settle the score!
  • Osmond slowly lowered his head and tried to get on his feet, but his legs were too weak to even move.
  • Like a truly disabled person, he felt as though his legs didn't belong to him.
  • Osmond tried feeling the pulse points on his leg with one hand while gently massaging his leg muscles with the other.
  • “Oh, thank goodness... My legs are just suffering from mild muscular atrophy due to a lack of exercise and blood circulation. That's a very common issue for those who are bedridden for too long,” he mumbled as he assessed his condition.
  • Given his medical skills, he could make a speedy recovery with self-treatment and some physical training.
  • As Osmond glanced at the somewhat shabby state of the room around him, his memory fragments slowly pieced themselves together.
  • Although he had been mentally disabled for two years, it didn't affect his ability to remember things.
  • “This is the Quantrill residence?” Osmond muttered to himself.
  • The Quantrill family of Jadeborough consisted of descendants of generals.
  • Logan Quantrill, the patriarch of the Quantrill family, used to be revered by the soldiers for his achievements in the military.
  • He had asked Grady many times to let Osmond marry his granddaughter, Constance Quantrill.
  • Those from the Quantrill family had no idea about Osmond's rank in the military, but they believed in Logan's judgment and were excited about the marriage.
  • However, not only did Osmond become mentally disabled after retiring from the army, but he was also paralyzed from the waist down and lost all ability to look after himself.
  • The Quantrill family was hoping to improve their status in Jadeborough by riding on Osmond's coattails, but their plan was ruined. Disappointment, despair, and hatred were all that awaited them.
  • As the descendants of the Quantrill family weren't ready to take over Logan's place when he died on the battlefield, their family's status and reputation took a huge dive.
  • Naturally, the Quantrill family blamed it all on Osmond.
  • They took it out on him throughout the past two years by mistreating and humiliating him in every way possible.
  • Osmond looked away as he picked up his phone from the table and dialed a number he was most familiar with.
  • “Hello?”
  • The voice on the other end of the line sounded gloomy and firm, which gave it an air of authority.
  • “It's me,” Osmond said with a hint of nostalgia in his tone.
  • The person he was calling was Paul Hyams, the leader of his personal guards.
  • Paul was an incredibly loyal and righteous man.
  • Bang!
  • A loud crashing noise was heard in the background.
  • “W-Who are you?” Paul asked in a shaky voice.
  • “It's me, Osmond,” Osmond replied after a brief pause.
  • Paul fell silent for about ten seconds before yelling, “What the f*ck? Who gave you permission to call me? A crippled fool like you is unworthy of talking to me! F*ck off!”
  • Paul's voice was still a little shaky despite how angry he sounded.
  • He then hung up immediately after that, leaving Osmond completely stunned.
  • Osmond's face was somewhat pale as he slowly put his phone down.
  • As if my subordinates turning me into a mentally disabled cripple wasn't bad enough, my most trusted man, the leader of my personal guards, now treats me like this... Man, talk about betrayal...
  • Osmond gripped his phone tightly as he mumbled to himself with a wry smile, “Heh... Human relationships sure are superficial!”
