Chapter 3 The Daughter Of The Quantrill Family
- Of all members of the Quantrill clan, Flora had been the meanest to Osmond throughout the past two years.
- As Osmond's identity had been kept a secret from the general public, the Quantrill family had no idea about his past and his achievements in the army.
- To Flora, Osmond was nothing but a stupid soldier whose rank wasn't anything worth mentioning.
- Osmond glared coldly at Flora as he sat beside his bed.
- “He's not a dimwit anymore, Ms. Watson! He just slapped me!”
- Kieran couldn't accept the fact that he had just been hit by a cripple.
- “What?”
- Flora paused and turned to look at Osmond in response.
- Sure enough, his mannerisms and body language were completely different from that of a dimwit.
- “How dare you hit Mr. Zeller? Do you have any idea who he is? Get the heck out of here right this instant!”
- Flora was about to drag Osmond out of there by force when a clear voice rang out in the doorway.
- “Stop!”
- Both Kieran and Flora froze and turned around in unison, only to see a young, slender woman standing there in a black formal dress.
- Her hair was tied in a bun, which gave off an air of elegance.
- Her tiny nose and lips contrasted with the flawless skin on her face, adding a hint of cuteness to her otherwise icy-cold appearance.
- To top it all off, she had such an amazing figure that even a hardened soldier like Osmond couldn't take his eyes off her.
- That woman was none other than Constance, the daughter of the Quantrill family and Osmond's fiancée.
- Kieran instinctively licked his lips as he stared at Constance with a hint of lust in his eyes.
- The woman furrowed her brows when she saw Kieran pointing a sword at Osmond.
- “What are you two doing?” she shouted angrily as she stepped in front of Osmond, still unaware that he was no longer a dimwit.
- As though she had found her savior, Flora exclaimed with a hand on her hip, “You came at the perfect timing, Constance. This dimwit had the audacity to hit Mr. Zeller!”
- “Constance, Osmond has recovered! He may have recovered a long time ago, but he kept up the act to continue deceiving you! I bet he's just trying to take advantage of you!” Kieran added while sheathing his sword.
- As it would be incredibly humiliating if word got out about him being slapped by a dimwit like Osmond, Kieran was careful to make no mention of it.
- “Osmond and I are engaged, so it's only natural for us to be living together. What's wrong with that? Also, what does this have to do with you? If anything, you two are the ones in the wrong for bullying him while I'm not around!” Constance snapped back at him coldly.
- “You... I'm telling you the truth, Constance! He has recovered and might have been since a long time ago! He has only been putting up an act so he can live off the Quantrill family!” Kieran protested.
- “That's right, Constance! Everything Kieran said is true! I can vouch for him!” Flora added.
- With a frown on her face, Constance turned around and shot Osmond a glance.
- “Osmond?”
- Although his heart was filled with glee, Osmond maintained a blank look on his face and acted like a dimwit as he asked, “Huh? W-Who are you people?”
- Kieran exploded with anger when he realized what Osmond was doing. “What? You're still trying to put up an act?”
- “That's enough! Get out right this instant, both of you!” Constance shouted while taking a step forward.
- Kieran and Flora were seething as they glared at Osmond.
- “This isn't over, Osmond! Just you wait!” Kieran yelled.
- He then stared longingly at Constance before leaving the room with Flora.
- Constance waited until the two of them were gone before turning around to face Osmond.
- “I knew they wouldn't bring you out to get some sunlight, so I took the day off and came home,” she muttered to herself with a sigh as she wheeled Osmond out into the yard.
- Constance let out another sigh when she saw the blank and dumb look on his face.
- She then knelt down beside him and placed a hand on his lap.
- “Grandpa used to tell me all those great stories about you. He said you were a legend among the soldiers and the hope of our country. You fought valiantly on the battlefield all so we could enjoy a peaceful life. I've long since admired you, Osmond. You are my hero. You have no idea how happy and excited I felt when I heard about our engagement. It really breaks my heart to see you like this...”
- As the yard was bathed in the warm glow of the sun, Constance continued pouring her heart out to Osmond.
