Chapter 15 Dignity
- Osmond knew what Kieran was trying to do by intentionally gathering a massive crowd.
- “Today is my birthday, Constance! I hope you're willing to meet me!” Kieran shouted at the office building Constance was in at the moment.
- Soon, a lot of people poked their heads out of the building's windows and stared downward.
- “Wow, that's so romantic!”
- “So many flowers and balloons!”
- “Someone is here to woo you, Ms. Quantrill!”
- In an instant, many of Constance's colleagues began to discuss what was going on excitedly.
- Constance was sitting at her desk in her professional suit. When she heard the noises and voices, she couldn't help but frown slightly.
- A sense of resignation filled her heart.
- As the saying went, women were nothing but trouble.
- Her beauty was unparalleled in the whole of Jadeborough.
- Naturally, that meant she had a bunch of pursuers who automatically ignored Osmond's existence.
- That was because he was just a dimwit and a cripple.
- Even if he wasn't a dimwit anymore, he was still a cripple.
- They didn't think he could do anything even if they tried to chase after his fiancée.
- If he couldn't even stand up, how could he defend his own dignity?
- Additionally, Constance had never felt protected by Osmond before.
- “I think you should go downstairs and take a look, Ms. Quantrill.”
- “That's right, Ms. Quantrill. Look at how much effort he's putting into doing this!”
- There was a tinge of sourness and disdain in the voices of the women who said that.
- Hmph, everyone knows she is already engaged, yet she still attracts so much attention outside.
- “I won't leave until you come down here, Constance!” Kieran shouted again.
- “I'll ask him to leave.” Constance stood up and headed downstairs.
- Soon, Osmond saw Constance's figure appearing at the entrance.
- “She actually came down?” With slightly furrowed eyebrows, he waited in a distance silently.
- He wanted to see what she would do.
- “You're finally here, Constance! I'm giving you a bouquet of ninety-nine roses. I just picked them from Jadeborough's rose garden!” Kieran promptly presented the huge bouquet of roses in his hands to Constance.
- “Wow, I'm so jealous!”
- “Ninety-nine roses! Not only that, they were picked from Jadeborough's rose garden! Just a single rose costs plenty of money!”
- “He's such a rich and romantic man!”
- Countless people were gossiping as they watched, especially the women, who were all staring with jealousy.
- However, Constance's expression was calm, and she didn't stretch her hands out to accept the flowers.
- “Thanks, but I don't need it,” she rejected plainly.
- “I heard from Ms. Watson that you like flowers. Why aren't you accepting it now that I'm giving you one whole bunch? It's my birthday today, but you don't need to give me a present! I just want to give you something!” Kieran's face was slightly blushing because it was quite embarrassing to be rejected in front of so many people.
- “If I like flowers, I'll buy them myself. Even if I don't buy any I don't need you to give them to me. Thank you.” Her voice sounded firmer.
- “Since you refuse to accept my gift, does this mean you're still waiting for that cripple to buy you something?” Mockery could be heard in his voice as he retracted his hands.
- “If he buys me something, I'll take it.” Constance slowly turned her head around and stared at Kieran.
- That stunned him.
- In the distance, Osmond's grip on his wheelchair's armrest tightened.
- After hearing what she said, he was willing to gift her all the roses in the world.
- “Sadly, he can't even stand up. Besides, he doesn't have the money to buy roses.” Kieran shook his head slightly with a look of disdain.
- Gently biting her lip, Constance retorted stubbornly, “Then I'll get it myself!”
- If Osmond wants to give it to me, I'll take it. If he can't afford it, I can earn and get it myself. I don't need you to gift it to me!
- She continued, “I'm engaged to someone already, Mr. Zeller. So, while I'm grateful for your gift, I won't accept it. You should leave soon.”
- After she finished speaking, she turned around and headed back into the building.
- “Constance!” Kieran promptly stepped forward and grabbed her wrist.
- A cold look flashed across Osmond's eyes. Then, he stopped waiting and pushed his wheelchair toward the two.
- “What do you think you're doing?” With a frown, Constance flung Kieran's hand away.
- “It's my birthday today, Constance. Can't you be a little nicer to me?” he whispered.
- “Mr. Zeller, there is work I need to finish before returning home to take care of Osmond.” Her tone got colder as she continued to frown.
- In her heart, she was feeling a little aggrieved because those “flies” were really annoying her. If Osmond is a normal person, I bet he'll punch these “flies” around me away. Sadly, this is only my wishful thinking...
- “I have even prepared a present for you today, Constance! No matter what, you must accept it! Just think of it as saving my face!” Kieran stepped forward again.
- Then, he pointed at a giant gift box in a distance.
- “Do you even have that?”
- It was at that moment a discordant sound was heard, which instantly attracted the crowd's attention.
