Chapter 35 Deceptive Reports

• Joaquin was caught off guard, his breath nearly stolen by Stellan's words.
• Stellan's nose twitched at the scent of smoke, catching it before he reached Joaquin. He solemnly warned, "Zayla's not in the best shape, and smoke doesn't sit well with her. If you haven't checked in on her, it might be a good idea. I've got a caregiver on standby, briefed and ready to go."
• Stellan was hinting for Joaquin to scram. But, tough as nails, Joaquin brushed off the advice like it was nothing. Yet, hearing Stellan talk to Zayla so personally got under his skin. It felt like a stranger eyeing up something of his, even if it wasn't cherished. That invasion of his territory? It was downright intolerable.
