Chapter 13 Intrigue
- Before Karen could finish her words, Conrad interrupted her impatiently.
- At another time, Conrad might have been furious, standing up for Karen and confronting anyone who dared cross her.
- At this point, with anger already festering within him and trouble lingering in his mind, he could hardly muster a kind response for Karen. Instead, Conrad reprimanded her harshly.
- "Why on earth would you go looking for that fool?" He snapped.
- "I'm warning you; don't even think about messing with Demi right now. She's still useful to me!"
- Eric had regained control of the Snows, and Conrad knew this was his chance to form a relationship with them.
- If he could manage to get on their good side, his future prospects would be limitless.
- This marriage had only come about thanks to Demi's mother's connections.
- Ever since her passing, the Snows have been dismissive of him, showing no interest in maintaining ties. Now, with this new opportunity to bond with the Snows, Conrad was determined to seize it.
- He cut off the conversation abruptly, his impatience showing again. "That's it. I've got things to do. I'm hanging up."
- Without waiting for a reply, Conrad ended the call.
- Lying in her hospital bed, Karen hadn't expected this outcome. Instead of sympathy, she'd received a scathing lecture from Conrad, leaving her seething with rage. Karen ground her teeth with anger.
- Her eyes darkened, venomous thoughts filling her mind. It was all due to Demi, that little wretch!
- Just like her despicable mother, both of them deserved nothing but the worst!
- ...
- When Eric returned home, he found Demi curled up on the couch. She clutched a jar of candy as if it were the most precious thing in the world. She was so absorbed in watching cartoons that she didn't even notice Eric's presence.
- On the surface, she looked carefree, but inside her mind, she was calculating and planning her next move.
- Tucked into the sofa and curled up in a ball, Demi looked rather adorable, hugging that jar like it was her precious possession.
- Eric's brow furrowed as he caught himself thinking this. Quickly, he pushed the foolish thought aside, his expression returning to its usual cold, sharp demeanor.
- As soon as Eric entered, Helen rushed to greet him. "Mr. Eric, welcome home!"
- "Hmm."
- He nodded in acknowledgment before proceeding directly to his study.
- Eric's sharp gaze immediately spotted signs of tampering with his computer the moment he entered the room. His eyes narrowed, his cool demeanor growing even colder.
- "Helen."
- Despite having worked at Clotaire Villa for years, Helen couldn't help but feel a shiver of fear at Eric's current mood.
- "Mr. Eric, what's the matter?"
- Eric's gaze was cold as ice as it landed on her.
- "Who was in my study today?"
- Helen's heart races. Without hesitation, she replied, "Mr. Eric, Mrs. Snow entered earlier, but it was merely a game of hide-and-seek. She didn't touch anything. I also told her that it was off-limits, and Mrs. Snow promised not to go in again."
- Of course, it's that little fool again.
- Eric's gaze deepened, his thoughts darker. He already knew what had happened with Karen earlier at Clotaire Villa.
- Yesterday, it had been Alanna sent to the hospital. Today, Karen was also admitted to the hospital.
- This little fool hadn't suffered the slightest in these incidents. One time might be a coincidence, but three or four times? That was no accident.
- Eric smiled a little. His fingers were drumming lightly on the table as he spoke with a nonchalance that didn't match the storm brewing inside him.
- "Alright. I see."
- Helen blinked in surprise. Just moments ago, Eric appeared on the verge of an outburst, but now he simply lets things slide. It was hard to believe.
- Eric didn't care what Helen thought. He rose from his chair and strode toward the living room.
- With a happy smile on her face, Demi remained engrossed in her cartoons. Eric walked over, seating himself beside her.
- His long legs stretched out lazily. His entire demeanor exudes a sense of casual yet commanding authority.
- Demi continued watching the cartoon, her gaze steady, though a flicker of awareness crossed her mind.
- What did this devil of a man want now?
- Her instincts told her nothing good could come of this.
- Eric's charming eyes stayed locked on her, his gaze almost predatory.
- "Why did you go into my study and touch my computer?"
- Demi's heart gave a sudden jolt.
- It seemed like he was beginning to suspect her.
- A train of thoughts raced through her mind, but on the surface, she maintained her act. She continued to watch the cartoon as if she hadn't a care in the world, perfectly playing the role of a fool.
