Chapter 27 Escape From Humans!
- Clinton ducked and rolled backward, and then springing back to his feet, he immediately embarked on a sprint.
- “Stop him! He’s escaping!”
- Immediately, the contingent of strong human warriors and their Holy Knights raised their weapons as they got ready to attack.
- The slim human who just attacked him was the one to start the pursuit as ahead of all the others, and with his superior speed, he chased after the skeleton.
- Despite his speed though, the skeleton did not seem much slower.
- Clinton may be levels lower than this human but his skeleton body was far lighter than the biological body of the human. It took him less effort to get into stride and start sprinting away.
- Besides, after spending over a week in the decaying forest already, he was pretty good at running away from things that were stronger than him.
- Even as the slim human went in pursuit, the other human who was built like a hefty bodybuilder immediately started looking around for something.
- The next moment, his eyes stopped on a small boulder that was at a corner of this corridor. Immediately, he charged towards the small boulder.
- While he did this, the last of the 3 humans, the lady already raised her strange staff up as magical energy started gathering around it.
- Clinton knew that it was magical energy because of his encounters against the level 5 monsters in the decaying forest.
- While all this happened, the Holy Knights with their swords and shields charged straight ahead at the escaping skeleton.
- The Holy Knights were the support but even they were lethal to him.
- Clinton was still very much in danger.
- In Clinton’s mind, only two thoughts dominated.
- ‘I am no longer human!’
- ‘But still, I must survive!’
- Right at that moment, one of the humans attacked first.
- It was the lady.
- “Low-tier spell: Fireball!”
- Whoosh!
- Feeling his danger instincts tingle even as the heat around him seemed to increase exponentially, Clinton did not hesitate, fully trusting in his instincts despite the fact that he could not look back to see the danger.
- He ducked and rolled again. This time, he rolled forward.
- By rolling, Clinton was able to avoid the brunt of the fiery damage of the fireball as it collided against the wall of this corridor ahead of him.
- BOOM!
- Clinton may have dodged but the heat and tremor damaged his skeleton body.
- {You have received +0.8 heat damage!}
- {You have received +0.3 tremor damage!}
- {HP: 0.9/7}
- Clinton was down to less than 1 HP again.
- If he had a heart, at this moment, his heart would be beating rapidly like the Spartan drums of war and yet, he was still calm and calculative.
- Despite everything that already happened since coming into this corridor, his calma passive skill was as active as ever, keeping him calm and calculative.
- Thinking of something, he felt like chuckling at the irony. ‘I guess my disguise was just like children’s play to them, they saw through my cloak and mask immediately that I was a skeleton’.
- Clinton clawed at the wooden mask and threw it away.
- Right at that moment, he noticed the slim human who somehow dissolved into nothing to dodge the fireball now charging towards him again.
- ‘He has the ability to disappear?’
- Despite his thoughts at this moment, Clinton was calm enough to evaluate the danger that this single human posed to him, having suffered from his dagger once already. This was why he reacted.
- Clinton dipped his skeleton hands into the deep pockets of the brown cloak that he made, and then, he pulled out his weapons, daggers.
- {You have activated class skill: Silent Slice!}
- Whoosh!
- Clinton’s right skeleton hand sliced with the dagger through the air with impunity even as the eyes of the dagger-wielding human widened.
- He paused, rapidly retreating and dodging at just the right time by a tiny margin even as sweat filled this human’s face. ‘This skeleton is a master of daggers?’ He thought in shock.
- In that moment that he paused and retreated; Clinton turned back to continue his escape but not after giving him a souvenir.
- {You have activated class skill: Accurate Throw!}
- He threw the dagger that was on his left skeleton hand.
- The slim human was fast, removing his head at just the right moment as he dodged the point-blank dagger throw.
- But right at that moment, a deep voice growled.
- “Alan, move away!”
- Immediately, the slim human dissolved again, disappearing.
- Looking back, Clinton saw a boulder flying rapidly in his direction as his eyes widened. The boulder was even bigger than the fireball.
- If he decided to duck and roll again, it would touch his back.
- And with less than 1 HP remaining, Clinton did not want to take this risk so he did what came to his mind first.
- Clinton laid down flat on the corridor floor.
- Whoosh!
- The boulder flew above him, creating a dent in the corridor wall where it hit.
- While the boulder flew past him, laying down on the ground, Clinton groped around with his arms. Where he laid was close to where he kept all the bones from the pile of bones that he had been picking since.
- Clinton no longer had the luxury to take all the bone that he harvested with him, he set his eyes on only two.
- ***
- {You have come into contact with a mythical tool: Bone of Magedon, the Doom Knight!}
- {WARNING! You have broken the enchantment of light!}
- ***
- At this moment, Clinton was close to the heap of bones.
- For some reason, after that notification, he thought he saw one of the bones in the heap move but he didn’t pay much attention to it.
- Jumping back to his feet and dragging the 2 mythical bones along, Clinton dashed towards the slope that led to the decaying forest.
- Behind him, he sensed sinister will and killing intent.
- The humans were most likely already cooking up another plan to end his life.
- Clinton was calm but in reality, he was no closer to safety than he was since. There was still a sizeable distance till he got to the slope.
- ‘Will I make it in time?’
- ‘Can I?’ He was calm but realistic. ‘I can’t’.
- Just as he wanted to turn back to defend himself against subsequent attacks from the Holy Knights who already raised their swords, something inexplicable happened.
- Some of the skeletons in the heap of bones started moving!
- ‘Huh?’ Clinton’s eyes widened in horror.
- ‘What is going on?’
- The humans felt even more horror as they immediately paused, taking their eyes off him and focusing on the heap of bones.
- “T-t-the enchantment of light!” The lady said in a quivering voice. “The spell is affected!” She roared.
- “We need to amend it!” She ordered. “I need mana”.
- Immediately, the slim human turned around with urgency on his face as he ran towards the lady. The hefty human also ran towards the lady.
- Once they got to her position, they placed their hands on her shoulders as energy started flowing from their bodies into hers.
- Clinton looked back in time to notice this lady raise her strange staff up as she started muttering words in a language that he did not understand.
- For some reason, he felt that the language contained power.
- Bright light started shining from her body.
- Clinton didn’t pay attention to all these though. He didn’t know why the skeletons suddenly started moving, he was too distracted to care.
- What mattered to him was that his chance to escape just increased.
- He continued towards the slope without hesitation and a few seconds later, he arrived as he immediately slid down the slope back to the decaying forest.
- Clinton escaped.
