Chapter 26 I Am No More Human

  • ‘Why?’ Clinton barely asked the question when he threw it back at himself, he felt like chuckling in his mind. ‘Why?’ He asked himself.
  • ‘I should have known’. He thought.
  • Looking into the eyes of that slim human, Clinton saw an emotion that he recognized, that of an experienced hunter focused on hunting his prey. ‘I should have known,’ he lamented.
  • ‘I am such a fool’.
  • ‘Maybe it’s because I never had the opportunity to look at a mirror surface yet, or I would react exactly the same way he’s reacting’.
  • ‘Back in my previous world, what will I do when I see a dangerous snake?’
  • ‘It’s a wild animal, of course I’ll try to kill it immediately’.
  • ‘To me, that’s not wrong, it’s only a natural reaction’. He chuckled in his mind at the irony of the situation. ‘To think that one day I will no longer be the human looking revoltingly upon the wild beast, but rather be the wild beast instead’.
  • ‘The irony’.
  • ‘Worse still, I’m not just any wild beast either, I’m an undead skeleton’.
  • ‘What did I expect?’
  • ‘They’re even calm,’ he still found the time to chuckle despite his current situation. ‘If it was me from my previous life, I would have done more than just attacking to see if I can kill the undead skeleton’.
  • ‘I would have probably called on the names of all the Gods that I know to see if they can help me exorcise the evil demon’.
  • ‘I would be screaming at the top of my lungs’.
  • ‘Compared to the reaction of these humans, I would have done more’.
  • These thoughts didn’t just go through Clinton’s head, in a way, it was a reality check to him as the gravitas of his punishment by the Angel Athena finally dawned on his mind.
  • Being banished to this dungeon world with evil monsters, he thought getting to fight for his survival was the punishment but he could not have been more wrong.
  • Getting rejected by humans; it was the greatest punishment of all.
  • Just imagine as a child, something happened and all of a sudden, your mother could no longer recognize you, suddenly seeing you as a pest to be killed.
  • That sudden lack of love, attention, and care switching to raw hostility and aggression, it was a difficult thing to stomach.
  • That was exactly what Clinton felt at this moment.
  • For 18 years of his life which was literally his whole life, he lived among humans. Not just as your regular guy either, he was a celebrity, an arrogant prick even who lived his life in a profligate manner.
  • Clinton was stubborn, he lived his life anyhow he liked.
  • He listened to no one, not even his parents.
  • In a way, he felt like the main character of the whole universe.
  • This was how he could casually flirt with and fornicate with the female companions of his mates without feeling a thing. Afterall, to him, it was normal.
  • This was who he was, this was Clinton.
  • The Clinton that pulled crowds everywhere he went. The Clinton that was the girls’ Daddy, their sugar pie.
  • Clinton was so used to this lifestyle that on meeting humans again, instinctively, he expected them to see him in the same way.
  • Heck, he even expected them to feel lucky.
  • ‘Yo! The King of the track, Clinton is back’.
  • It sounded cringy but that was exactly how he felt on meeting humans again even as he also felt relief after staying only among monsters for the past few days.
  • If only he had looked at the mirror first.
  • ***
  • {CRITICAL HIT!}
  • {Your enemy used a martial skill on you: Windpipe Crusher!}
  • {You have received +5 damage!}
  • {HP: 2/7}
  • ***
  • In one attack, a critical hit, Clinton received +5 damage which wiped out more than 2/3rd of his total health points.
  • Clinton didn’t pay much attention to this physical damage at this moment, rather, it was the psychological damage that registered in his head.
  • Looking into the eyes of the slim human before him, for the first time in both of his lives, Clinton felt what those other boys felt when he slept with their female companions.
  • Clinton experienced heartbreak for the first time.
  • It was a humbling experience.
  • It was equally a traumatizing experience.
  • But Clinton did not stay that way for long. Clinton may have been an arrogant prick, someone with little regard for others, but one thing that enabled him to rule the tracks in his previous life with such tyranny was his mentality.
  • Clinton had this never give up mentality once he took to the track.
  • At this moment, it was this mentality that kept him going.
  • Getting rejected by humans was traumatizing, humbling even, but Clinton did not break down immediately due to it, rather he accepted it.
  • He hated to acknowledge it since but for the first time since being banished to this dungeon, Clinton acknowledged it with his mouth.
  • “I am no more human”.
  • The moment that he said it, it was like shackles fell from his body.
  • In his mind, Clinton felt like he just experienced a change but he did not pay much attention to it at this moment as something else, something important finally registered in his mind.
  • Right now, he was in danger!
  • All these thoughts went through Clinton’s head in just 0.1 seconds, and that was enough time for the slim human to go again.
  • Noting that the skeleton did not die immediately from that attack, the human seemed surprised but his movements did not slow down one beat as he launched a kick at the skeleton’s hand.
  • Bam!
  • The tail bone of the Winter Dragon, Syrax the Dread which was apparently a god relic fell out of Clinton’s head and immediately, the human was already launching another attack with his dagger towards the skeleton’s neck.
  • Clinton’s eyes alternated between the god relic that his miserable undead system identified and the human attacking him, and then he made his decision.
  • Greed comes before a fall.
  • With his life on the line, Clinton decided not to be greedy.
  • At this moment, he was traumatized and a lot of things were going through his life but despite it all, he still cherished his life above everything else for now even though he now lived as a skeleton.
  • Clinton ducked and rolled backward on his back.
  • Immediately after he sprang to his feet, he turned around and dashed back in the direction of the decaying forest.
  • Clinton was escaping!
  • “Stop him! He’s escaping!”
