Chapter 39 Love That Doesn't Matter

  • The truth was, I had loved him. I had loved him more than anything, and that love had blinded me to who he really was, to the destruction he had caused in my life. I had given him everything, and in return, he had betrayed me in the worst possible way.
  • And now, as I lay there, sobbing on the cold floor, I knew that I couldn’t go back. I couldn’t be Eve anymore. I couldn’t be the woman who loved him, who trusted him, who believed in him. That woman was gone, and in her place was someone I didn’t even recognize, some one I couldn’t comprehend.
  • I stayed there for what felt like hours, the weight of everything pressing down on me, suffocating me. And then, slowly, I forced myself to stand. My legs were weak, trembling beneath me, but I couldn’t stay on the ground any longer.
