Chapter 4 What If It Is Really True

  • In a lavish living room, Uriel Huntington, who had just finished her star-chasing spree, tugged excitedly at Adriel Huntington, who was engrossed in his game beside her. “Adriel, did you hear that? Charles is actually searching for his father on television. He's a child of a single parent!”
  • “So?” Adriel cast a glance at his younger sister.
  • “Don't you think this little sweetheart looks just like Gabriel? He looks so much like him especially when he appeared on TV. Adriel, do you think Gabriel could be his father?” Uriel's imagination ran wild. She wished fervently that Charles was her eldest brother's son, and that she could have a super adorable nephew.
  • Even if he wasn't, she wanted to sneak him back home.
  • “You've been reading too many novels, haven't you?” Adriel looked at Uriel in exasperation. “I've told you to study more and cut down on those mindless romance dramas.”
  • “Adriel, what if it's really true?”
  • “It can't be. Gabriel will never have a child out of wedlock...”
  • “Let's make a bet!” Uriel said, hands on her hips. “If he's Gabriel's child, you'll tutor me to become the top student in the class. If he's not, I'll study on my own and aim to be the top student in the entire school. How about it?”
  • Adriel couldn't help but chuckle. “Are you sure?”
  • “Absolutely!”
  • “Then tell me, what's your plan?”
  • “I have my own ways to get that little guy's DNA. I heard he has an interview tomorrow, so I'll bribe someone to get me a strand of his hair. Just get ready to tutor your little sister who's at the bottom of the class! Hmph!”
  • Uriel was a woman of action. She immediately got in touch with someone about the interview tomorrow. Once everything was in place, all she had to do was wait for the staff member to bring her a few strands of hair.
  • At night, Jeanette gazed at her sleeping son, but she herself was plagued by insomnia. Her son's actions that day had left her incredibly stressed. What if that jerk recognizes our son and tries to take him away from me?
  • Though she had no idea what the man looked like, she was certain that his character was absolutely deplorable. She didn't want her son to have any association with him.
  • Even if he did find them, she would never let him take the boy away.
  • The following morning, Jeanette was still in a drowsy state of sleep when she heard a knock at the door. It turned out to be a staff member from the television station, who had come for a home visit interview. Jeanette was not particularly keen, but Charles was already seated on the couch, ready for the interview.
  • He responded to the questions smoothly, portraying an air of nonchalance. Seeing that, Jeanette allowed them to proceed with the interview. At that moment, a staff member came over to fix the boy's hair, claiming it was a bit messy, and ended up pulling out a few strands in the process.
  • Charles stared at him with a pair of wide, jet-black eyes that were so intense it made him feel slightly uncomfortable. He quickly apologized, “I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Did I accidentally hurt you?”
  • He's just an adorable four-year-old child, but his gaze is so intimidating. Whose trait did he inherit?
  • Once the interview concluded, Jeanette expressed that they would no longer be accepting interviews from television stations. She didn't want their lives to be disturbed.
  • Meanwhile, after accepting a sum of money, the staff member personally handed over the hair sample to Uriel.
  • “Let's go and get this tested, Adriel!”
  • Uriel held the small bag of hair with utmost reverence, walking alongside Adriel toward their family hospital.
  • In the afternoon, Jeanette returned to the Gardner residence with Charles.
  • Craig, recently discharged from the hospital, had called her to go home for a family gathering.
  • She rang the doorbell and after a short while, a housekeeper came out, scrutinizing her. “Who are you looking for?”
  • “I'm looking for my father. I'm Jeanette Gardner, the daughter of the Gardner family,” Jeanette said coldly.
  • The housekeeper was momentarily stunned. She then wore a look of doubt and mockery as she responded, “The daughter of the Gardner family? The Gardner family has only one daughter, and that's Stefie Gardner. Who do you think you are to call yourself a daughter of the Gardner family?”
  • After she finished speaking, she noticed a little boy holding Jeanette's hand. She couldn't help but secretly speculate that Jeanette had brought along a child to swindle the Gardner family.
  • She must be a woman with a questionable private life. She already has such a grown son at such a young age.
  • Jeanette didn't expect that in the five years of her absence, even the housekeepers at home no longer recognized her.
  • Yet, she wasn't surprised. Wynona and Stefie probably wished for her to vanish completely from this household. The old housekeepers of the Gardner family might have been driven out by the mother-daughter duo a long time ago.
  • Just then, a car pulled up, and Jeanette stood aside with Charles. The woman in the car rolled down the window and said sarcastically, “Well, if it isn't Jeanette? I thought the air was sweeter abroad! You were so stubborn when you left the Gardner residence. What brings you back now?”
  • Jeanette didn't want to waste another word on Wynona. She coldly retorted, “Anyone who didn't know better would think the Gardner family had changed their name to Child. Where's my father?”
  • Wynona sized up Jeanette with her vicious gaze. After not seeing her for five years, I can't believe she's actually become more beautiful.
  • Her gaze drifted downward, landing on the little boy Jeanette was leading by the hand. She furrowed her brows. What's going on? Jeanette actually brought a child home!
  • Observing the child, who seemed to be over four years old, she mocked, “Jeanette, when did you conceive this child? Don't tell me it happened when you were selling yourself at that hotel.”
  • Jeanette's gaze hardened. “My affairs are none of your business.” Having said that, she took her son's hand and turned to leave. “Charlie, let's go home. It seems we won't be able to see Granddad this time.”
  • Charles nodded. He could tell that his mother didn't like the people at his grandfather's house, so he decided he didn't like them either.
  • “Look, Taylor and Stefie are about to get engaged. Now that you're back, I strongly suggest you avoid causing any trouble. If you do, I won't let you off the hook!”
