Chapter 8 And Now She's Crying?
- It was now almost noon, and Rhea's stomach was growling, so she pouted and had what could be considered breakfast for lunch.
- After satisfying her hunger, she felt much better. She walked into the yard, rolled up her sleeves, and got to work. What was so difficult about turning over the soil and removing weeds? Something like this wouldn't stump her at all.
- The yard was nice and spacious, but it was overrun with weeds. As someone from the countryside, Rhea believed that besides colorful flowers, only crops were legitimate plants; everything else was considered weeds. Weeds would affect the growth of crops, so they needed to be removed. Therefore, she diligently pulled out all the lush green grass in the yard and tidied up the entire area.
- She knew that Casper was deliberately making things difficult for her, but she wasn't afraid. Roger had mentioned that Casper had a bad temper, and it was not a big deal for her, as his wife, to be more tolerant.
- After busying herself for several hours, Rhea called Wendy and found the only grocery store nearby through her. It was in the Eighth District, and she heard that it was a store that the elderly residents in the area had requested to be preserved.
- As she held the vegetables in her hand and looked at the little money left in her wallet, she realized that she needed a job.
- She now had to purchase groceries and cook for Casper, and the cost of living in Wingston was extremely high. Moreover, he seemed like a pampered man, and he definitely couldn't endure hardships like her. Therefore, the money she had was definitely not enough.
- In Rhea's opinion, since she was living in Casper's house and using his furniture, it was only natural for her to buy the groceries and cook their meals. They were married, so they naturally had to share the household expenses.
- She even felt that she had taken advantage of him a lot. When she earned money from work, she would ensure that he had better food.
- With this in mind, Rhea walked towards a fish vendor and eagerly asked, "Sir, are you hiring fish cleaners here?"
- The fish vendor looked up at her and hesitated before saying, "Yes."
- "Do you think I'm capable?"
- "Young girl, don't joke around. I think a little girl like you would be scared to even touch a fish."
- Ten minutes later, the fish vendor watched in silence as Rhea skillfully wielded the knife, neatly slicing a grass carp into pieces.
- "Sir, if you need it, I can slice it even thinner."
- "Well... You're not bad. But the wages here aren't high. Would you be willing to accept four thousand a month?"
- "Of course I would!"
- "Alright... In that case, come to work next Monday."
- Rhea happily bid farewell to the fish vendor. This job didn't take long, and it wouldn't affect her ability to take care of Casper since it was close to home.
- She then returned to her small house, happily prepared dinner, and waited for him to come back. However, she waited for a long time, as the sky gradually darkened and the food had already gone cold, but Casper still hadn't returned.
- Unable to resist her hunger, Rhea ate a steamed bun to fill her stomach, then walked out of the house and sat on a chair in the courtyard, continuing to wait while looking toward the direction of the door.
- She decided that she should ask him for his phone number so she could call him and ask when he would be home for dinner next time.
- After a busy afternoon, Rhea's eyelids began to feel heavy as she leaned in the chair, and her head slowly turned foggier before she unknowingly fell asleep.
- When Casper came back, it was already midnight. It was unknown where he had been, but he carried a sharp, bloody aura with him.
- Upon his return, he saw that the lights were still on in the small house, casting a warm orange glow, seemingly the only light in the darkness of the night. He also saw someone dozing off in the courtyard.
- At the sight, Casper was momentarily stunned. Was someone waiting for him to come home?
- The sound of footsteps woke Rhea up. When he opened her eyes and saw Casper had returned, she rubbed her eyes, saying, "Casper, you're back. I've already tidied up the courtyard."
- Casper's momentary daze disappeared, replaced by a lingering sternness in his eyes as he looked towards the courtyard and asked, "Did you pull out those orchids?"
- "Weren't those just weeds?" Rhea asked, confused.
- "Ha, those orchids worth hundreds of thousands indeed look like worthless weeds. Get identical ones and replant them." Casper's words instantly drained the color from Rhea's face.
- Hundreds of thousands? Were these weeds she had pulled out worth that much?
- Casper no longer paid attention to Rhea and walked into the house while she hurriedly followed, at a loss for words.
- When he saw the cold dinner on the table, he said without stopping for a moment, "If you don't know how to cook, ask Wendy. Not even a dog would eat the food you made."
- Casper's attitude was terrible, and after speaking, he turned and went upstairs.
- On the table were three dishes and a soup that had already gone cold. For Rhea, this was already a plentiful meal. Back in her hometown she usually only had one dish for dinner. However, today, there were both meat and vegetables and even tomato soup.
- She stared blankly at Casper's back. Without paying attention to the dinner on the table, she quickly turned around, running to the courtyard and looking at the orchids that had been pulled out and not yet cleaned up.
- She squatted down, her eyes gradually turning red. She could endure hardships and endure beatings and scolding, but how could she damage such expensive orchids? The children in her hometown haven't even received all their textbooks this year.
- Over a hundred thousand… How could she waste so much money?
- Rhea's eyes reddened. As a matter of fact, she didn't like to cry at all. Even when she fell down from a cliff when she was a child, she didn't shed any tears.
- However, thinking about all this now, Rhea found herself unable to hold back her tears.
- Meanwhile, on the second floor, Casper watched the woman crouching in the yard through the window, and his gaze froze slightly. Was she crying?
- Yesterday, she was brave enough to retaliate against him in front of all those people, and just this morning, she threw one punch after another at him. And now she's crying?
