  • She sat on the bar stool in the shady little bar in the small town far away from Hollowford. Hila missed her son, hi baby smell as she hugged him goodnight, before he went with old Doris, to be read a story and tucked into bed.
  • Growing up in her little town in Israel, she had never had a childhood like that, she reflected, as she gazed into the large mug of beer before her. Her father had been strict and believed that children should sleep at bedtime, and that was it. Hila had loved her father but there had never been moments of hugging and kissing; not like what she saw in abundance at the Delano home. At least, Proserpina Delano made it a point to kiss and cuddle the little children and made sure to read the little kids a story at bedtime. Most importantly, when the Don was home, Jamie made a beeline for him with a book.
