Chapter 689
- Settling into the little apartment snuggling above the tiny café took time. The first night, I lay on the soft bed and stared out at the stars. I wondered what Lucien, my lover, my husband and my partner of all these years, was doing; wondered if he had taken another woman to bed.
- I placed a hand over my mouth to stifle my sobs as I lay, for Tara was sleeping soundly on the little camp bed Jack had brought for her, while he slept on a couch in the little ling room beyond. I sat up finally, walking wearily to the bathroom, with the little shower cubicle that adjoined the bedroom. Sighing, I washed my face and hands. Then, I moved to the bedroom and stared out onto the street through the window on the landing . And almost jumped out of my skin.
