Chapter 6 I Love You, Jennifer

  • Jennifer's POV:
  • This was an absolute disaster. The entire pack's she-wolves will tear me apart.
  • I glanced at Brian, whose expression turned even more grim. I figured he didn't want to be tied to me in some bizarre situation either.
  • Therefore, I nervously fiddled with my fingers, trying to preserve Brian's reputation. "Daisy, I … I got lost. Brian was just helping me get back home."
  • "Oh," Daisy drawled, clearly not buying a word of it. I glanced at Brian, hoping he'd back me up. His words would carry more weight, even though the scene looked suspicious, as if something had indeed happened.
  • Brian said nothing. He just glared at me before shifting into his wolf form and storming off. I could tell he was furious; he even kicked my door on his way out. Thank goodness he had some self-control, or he would've broken it.
  • I quickly picked up my towel, facing Daisy's inquisitive eyes. "Nothing happened between us. I swear. He just found me crying and brought me home. That's all, I promise."
  • I left out the part where I saw Brian naked—didn't want Daisy misunderstanding even more. Maybe it was the sincerity in my voice, but Daisy seemed to believe me. She let out a disappointed sigh. "What a shame. I thought you got a taste of little Brian."
  • Her eyes sparkled with dreamy admiration. "Oh, if only I could be Brian's mate. I'd be so happy."
  • "Please," I mercilessly interrupted her fantasy, "You couldn't handle his temper."
  • Daisy clutched her chest and faked an expression of heartbreak. "Fine, I admit, he's only nice to you." Her eyes suddenly lit up as if she'd made a discovery. "Wait! Do you think Brian likes you?"
  • "What?! No way!" My eyes widened as I struggled to keep a serious expression. "Daisy, you can't say things like that. It'll cause trouble for both of us."
  • "But ... " Daisy wanted to say more but finally nodded reluctantly after seeing my serious face. "Alright, alright, I would drop it."
  • She slumped down on the couch but then quickly perked up again. This time, she grabbed my hand with concern in her eyes. "By the way, you said you were crying earlier? Why? What happened?"
  • Her words brought me back to the painful memory of Claude and Maya's betrayal.
  • I told Daisy everything about what I saw last night—Claude and Maya together in bed.
  • "What?! Claude and Maya did that? That's absolutely despicable!"
  • Daisy roared, baring her sharp teeth. I could see she was ready to march out and get revenge for me. I grabbed her arm quickly. "Calm down, Daisy. You can't fight Claude, and I don't want you to get hurt because of me."
  • Claude was one of the stronger warriors in the pack. He'd even received special training from the Alpha since being with me. Daisy, on the other hand, was just a regular warrior. There was no way she could match him, either in skill or strength.
  • "But he hurt you! He hurt my friend!" Daisy growled, her eyes glowing red with fury. She was on the verge of shifting.
  • "Daisy, that's enough," I said softly, pulling her into a hug. I rested my head on her shoulder, whispering to calm her down. "I know you love me, and I love you too, but I don't want anything more to do with him." My voice cracked as I spoke the next words. "I'd like to call off the wedding, Daisy. And I need your help."
  • As I said it, I could clearly felt the pain that hit me all over again.
  • This wedding. I had been looking forward to it for years. I had meticulously planned every detail of the ceremony. I poured all my heart into it. And now, all of it was crumbling to dust.
  • "Daisy, I'm exhausted. I just want to rest."
  • Even though just thinking of Claude made me feel sick now, it was still hard to pretend my heart wasn't shattered. Seven years. I've loved him for seven years. How could it not hurt?
  • All I wanted was to sleep and forget him completely. When I wake up, I treat him as if he had never existed.
  • When I opened my eyes again, I found myself lying naked by a stream, the cool water lapping gently at the lower half of my body. And then there was Brian.
  • He was on top of me and he wasn't wearing anything either. I could feel the weight of his body and the intensity of his desire.
  • "I love you, Jennifer."
