Chapter 12 You Are Mine

  • Jennifer's POV:
  • I tried to summon my wolf from within, but there was no response. Even my teeth felt unchanged. It was as if everything that had just happened was an illusion. The wound on Claude's neck had vanished. Werewolves can heal, but I couldn't tell if his injury had healed or never existed.
  • Claude looked at me again, confusion and doubt filling his eyes. He asked, "Jennifer, are you in love with Brian?"
  • "What?" I couldn't believe what he was saying.
  • Claude grabbed my chin, his expression turning fierce. "Don't you know? If you and Brian end up together, you will bring disaster to our pack."
  • "I don't know what you're talking about."
  • "You do know!" Claude roared at me. "Brian must be with his mate! If he doesn't, the strength of the pack will plummet when he becomes Alpha. We could be overrun by other packs. You'll be the reason we lose our home!"
  • I shook my head, not understanding why he thought Brian would reject his mate for me. Brian was too rational for that. Even if we did sleep together, he would cast me aside without hesitation the moment he found his true mate.
  • I said, "Brian won't reject his mate for me."
  • "No!" Claude roared, spraying his disgusting saliva onto my face. He seemed to be losing control. "Jennifer, you don't know how irresistible you are in bed. Brian, he ... "
  • "Shut up!"
  • Brian suddenly appeared in my line of sight, throwing Claude to the ground. Fury burned in his eyes, and his fangs bared. He was on the verge of shifting. His entire body was radiating a murderous aura that engulfed Claude and made him tremble in fear.
  • Brian roared, "Claude Miller, I declare that from today, you are demoted to Omega!"
  • As the son of the current Alpha and Acting Alpha, he had the power to do so. I saw the color drain from Claude's face and the evident fear in his eyes.
  • For a werewolf, losing the rank of Beta to Omega was worse than death. The Betas would scorn him, and he would struggle to blend in with the Omegas. He would be an outcast, mocked and shunned by everyone.
  • Good. Serve you right. I laughed.
  • "No, no, Brian, please don't do this! Jennifer, tell him not to do this!" Claude begged, turning to me for help.
  • I only gave him a cold glance before walking away. "You brought this on yourself, Claude."
  • "Thank you, Brian," I said sincerely when we reached the doorstep of my home.
  • On the way back, Brian told me he had run into Daisy before coming to my aid. His explanation clarified my confusion. After Claude stopped me, I had used telepathic connection to reach out to Daisy for help, though I hadn't expected Brian to come instead.
  • Brian raised an eyebrow and asked with a smile, "Aren't you going to invite me in?"
  • His brown eyes locked onto mine, burning like a fire that made my body heat up. I couldn't help but think of the dressing room incident and how intoxicating was his touch.
  • He took a step closer. My room was right behind me. The soft couch, the countertop was the perfect height, and even the plush bed were all places where we could lose ourselves in passion. I knew I couldn't resist him—no werewolfess could.
  • "No ... " I tried to refuse.
  • "Don't push me away, Jennifer." Brian wrapped his arms around my waist. He must have cast some kind of spell, because the moment he touched me, my whole body went limp. I couldn't even stop him from opening my door.
  • He gently but firmly pressed me against the now-closed door. Then he kissed my forehead, my nose, my lips, and my ears with a tenderness that was both urgent and gentle. Brian's heavy breaths tempted me, "Jennifer, don't you want me?"
  • Oh, damn it, I wanted him so badly that I was losing my mind. I didn't understand why my body craved his touch so fiercely. The moment he touched me, I wanted to spread my legs and invite him inside and feel his wild and rough nature.
  • Sh*t! Why would I feel this way? I have always considered him my brother!
  • The inner conflict tortured me. "No, Brian, you should be with your mate."
  • "You are my mate, Jennifer." Brian looked me straight in the eyes and dropped a bombshell that left me speechless.
