Chapter 9 No One Can Really Help
- A cold smirk adhered to Tang Yin’s lips when he heard the mocking laughter.
- Tang Yin had seen his share of people like Liang Zicheng and didn’t care to concern himself with such people, but he didn’t mind teaching Liang Zicheng a lesson for Lin Cheng’s sake.
- Turning onto the street, Tang Yin did his best to compose himself before walking back into the university.
- Meanwhile, back in the small restaurant, Liang Zicheng patted himself on the chest. “Relax. I’ve already asked my father to look for Director Chen from the Department of Health. It won’t be a problem!” he bragged.
- “We are ever so grateful!” Wu Min exclaimed, pouring him another cup of tea with a sugary smile. “As expected, you’re so capable, Liang, settling everything with just a call!”
- Liang Zicheng’s head swelled from the praise. “Auntie, this is no trouble at all. Just give me a call if you ever need anything and I’ll handle it for you. I’ll just sit here to deal with those hooligans later.”
- Wu Min beamed as radiantly as the moon.
- Meanwhile, Lin Chuchu, who sat by her side, felt warm inside too.
- Wasn’t finding a dependable partner the most important thing for a girl? As long as he was rich, why would it matter even if Liang Zicheng looked like a pig?
- Lin Cheng stood and watched from afar; he didn’t like Liang Zicheng, but he couldn’t say anything since he needed a favor from him.
- Liang Zicheng thumped his chest loudly as he boasted, impressing Lin Chuchu and Wu Min so much that they nearly fell to their knees.
- As they said they would, the three young men came back when it was almost evening.
- Their gazes rested on Lin Chuchu once they entered and lecherous gleams reflected in their eyes.
- “Do you have the money?” Chu Hao cackled and sat directly opposite Lin Chuchu.
- Somewhat scared, Lin Chuchu hastily took a couple of steps back from him.
- “What’s this? It looks as if you still haven’t prepared the money? If you haven’t, then you shouldn’t blame us for doing whatever we have to, right? We’ll make a call to the Department of Health now.” Chu Hao raised his eyebrows, then grinned cheerfully and proposed, “Otherwise, how about letting us take your daughter out for a night? Maybe then I’ll call it even.”
- “Stop talking nonsense! Can’t you see that this isn’t the place for such behavior?” Liang Zicheng knew that he had to stand up for Lin Chuchu at this time.
- Chu Hao reclined in his chair and glanced at Liang Zicheng. “Huh! If it isn’t Prince Charming who’s here to rescue the princess! Don’t they look in the mirror nowadays before setting out to rescue the princess?”
- With that, Chu Hao pulled out a switchblade from his lap and slapped it onto the table with a clatter.
- Liang Zicheng couldn’t help quaking and his face turned pale. “What are you doing?! Are you thinking of using that knife? This is a civil society! Just go ahead and call the Department of Health; I’ve already settled things there with a contact of mine, so don’t think that you’ll get your way!”
- “Hehe…” Chu Hao lurched to his feet. “Brat, do you know what you’re saying? How dare you call the Department of Health?! Do you know who I am? Director Chen from the Department of Health is my brother-in-law, and you’re saying you used your contact there? Are you trying to pull my leg?”
- Liang Zicheng faltered. “Your brother-in-law? Impossible! Don’t make things up!”
- By the side, Lin Chuchu and Wu Min both paled. They hadn’t thought that the man before them was actually the brother-in-law of the Department of Health’s director.
- “My father is the CEO of Moonlit Seaview Hotel and he just discussed the issue with Director Chen!” Liang Zicheng cried out in agitation.
- “Discussed the issue with Director Chen?! Director Chen has been in back-to-back meetings today and was only just picked up in a car. What kind of discussions are you talking about? Jokes?” Chu Hao laughed raucously.
- “Impossible!” Vexed, Liang Zicheng drew out his phone and made a call to his father.
- “Son, I haven’t been able to get hold of Director Chen. If the matter you’re talking about isn’t urgent, let’s just talk about it tomorrow. I’m still rather busy right now.” The phone had just connected when Liang Wei’s voice rang out from the other end of the line.
- Liang Zicheng was annoyed. “What have you been doing?! Hurry up and look for him now!”
- “Director Chen isn’t at his office and he isn’t picking up his phone, so how do you expect me to look for him? Although our family does have some influence, we aren’t a big deal to Director Chen at all! I’ll look for him tomorrow.” Also ticked off, Liang Wei hung up abruptly.
- “Brat, why aren’t you saying anything now?” Chu Hao eyeballed Liang Zicheng with a knowing look on his face.
- Liang Zicheng’s face flushed and drained of color in turns from the embarrassment of being unable to fulfill the claims he’d made earlier.
- “Either give me the money or let the little girl accompany us for one night. Take your pick.” Chu Hao sat down again and folded his arms as he regarded the others in the room.
- Wu Min and Lin Chuchu paled and shrank away.
- “There’s still Tang Yin! Tang Yin said that he’d get us help!” Lin Cheng abruptly recalled and blurted out.
- “Dad, is this a good time to bring him up? What can he do?” Lin Chuchu shed tears and wailed at her father.
- “I’m divorcing you! I can’t stand this anymore!” Wu Min shouted.
- Lin Cheng gritted his teeth and took a step forward. “I know someone, and he’s called Tang Yin. He—”
- “Dad, what are you bringing him up for?” Lin Chuchu interrupted and pulled Lin Cheng back, feeling that she’d lost enough face for the day.
- Chu Hao sneered, “Tang Yin? And just where does this miserable goon called Tang Yin come from?”
- Lin Cheng paled, rendered speechless by Chu Hao’s coarse language.
- “See?! I’ve already told you that Tang Yin is a nobody! Why did you still bring him up?!” Lin Chuchu yelled at Lin Cheng.
- “Which one of you here knows Tang Yin?” At that moment, a clear, high voice rang out from outside the entrance.
- They all swiveled to look toward the door, only to see a woman in professional workwear standing at the entrance. She had a fair complexion, with wavy curls that cascaded down her shoulders, and she wore a pair of gold-rimmed glasses. There was an intelligence that emanated in her beauty, which was akin to that of a mature, sophisticated woman. Her standing in the entrance was an impactful visual statement in itself.
- Everyone went stock-still, unable to believe that such a stunning beauty had entered the small restaurant.
- Lin Chuchu wasn’t even in the same league as the beauty who had just walked in. It was obvious that she possessed a femininity that Lin Chuchu just didn’t have.
- “I-I know Tang Yin!” Lin Cheng hastily stammered in reply.
- “Nice to meet you! I’m Pei Ruo from Xihe Legal Consultancy. Mr. Tang Yin ordered me to come over and take a case.” Pei Ruo put on a small smile and continued, “This is my name card! I’ve already discussed things with Director Chen from the Department of Health, and he’s in my car right now! This case is a rather minor case for me, and I’d like to see Mr. Tang if he’s here. I hope that you can accommodate my request!”
- With that, Pei Ruo bowed slightly with a humble demeanor.
- Lin Cheng paused in shock and his face flushed as he struggled to come up with words. Meanwhile, a muscle twitched in Liang Zicheng’s face. Director Chen is in this woman’s car? How could it be? My father wasn’t able to get Director Chen on the phone, yet he’s in this woman’s car?
- On the other hand, Chu Hao trembled. He hadn’t thought that his brother-in-law would be in the woman’s car. Does that mean he’s right outside now?
- If his brother-in-law came in, would he still have a way out?
- He often got involved in such matters, and though his brother-in-law was aware of it, if he was caught in the act, he’d be roasted for sure.
- “I’d like to meet Mr. Tang!” Pei Ruo bowed again in a more respectful manner when she saw everyone’s blank faces.
- Lin Cheng gaped, still unable to convert his thoughts into words.
- By the side, Wu Min was gobsmacked while Lin Chuchu was both amazed and frustrated. This woman is being so subservient just so she could meet Tang Yin!
- Who is Tang Yin, really?
- But it didn’t matter who Tang Yin actually was, because she’d already chased him off.
