• “I think I’m ready.” I smiled at the maids, and they immediately curtsied, still wary of my presence. I suddenly missed Louella and Cindy and their friendly smiles and giggles whenever they put their skillful hands on me as they prepared me for situations like this. I missed Cindy’s encouraging words when she knew I was scared.
