Chapter 5 Losing Control

  • Eloisa’s POV
  • A day hadn’t passed yet since I left the candy shop, but somehow I missed being on Mama’s side. At least she wouldn’t hurt me as long as I obeyed her. But I was not sure if that would be possible with an alpha in a beast cycle whom I would be spending the night with.
  • A beast cycle, according to Dustin, was a phase that the four alphas of the great packs had to go through when turning at the age of 22. It was the perfect age for them to mark their mate and start a family.
  • Other alphas weren’t going through this, only the alphas ruling the four strongest packs. Dustin said it must be the moon goddess’ curse in exchange for power to rule, though he also mentioned that starting a family at 22 would be beneficial, especially for an alpha of a great pack who ruled over the weaker packs.
  • “Do not stare at the Alpha’s eyes,” a maid who was helping me bathe, warned. “If you do, he might end up choking you to death,” she warned.
  • “They already started bringing in other slaves in the Alpha’s bedroom. I wonder how many of them will survive tonight,” another maid said. She was in charge of washing my hair. “You’re lucky that Alpha Dustin especially ordered us to send you in last. By the time you get in Alpha Jack’s bedroom, he’d be too weak to resist the urges he had been holding in.”
  • It was weird… Everything was weird. Everybody was calm despite the struggles of their Alpha. It was as if they believed that letting their ruler sleep with a human slave would solve everything. Weren’t they too complacent? What if… What if their Alpha fell in love with a human after spending a night with her?
  • I shook my head, clearing my mind of those ridiculous thoughts of mine. Reality was far different from fiction. Love would not be enough to win over a villain, that was for sure.
  • “You’re ready. Let us help you dress up and we’ll lead you to the Alpha’s bedroom.”
  • The maids said they’d dressed me up but only gave me a red satin robe to wear and nothing else… Not even underwear!
  • “It’s cold for now but with the Alpha in his beast cycle, it’s important that you feel cold rather than warm. I heard human bodies are fragile. Your body temperature will soon rise when you’re in the Alpha’s arms, so endure the cold in the meantime,” the older maid told me.
  • “Isn’t it because the Alpha would just rip everything later once she stepped inside?” the younger maid commented.
  • “Shh. You don’t have to scare her.”
  • The maids laughed, walking ahead of me to lead the way to the Alpha’s bedroom. There were guards outside and Dustin was already there.
  • “Eloisa, are you ready?” Dustin asked as he approached me. “He’s still out of control. But like what I’ve promised, I’ll keep you safe.”
  • I balled my hands into fists. “Don’t send me in then I’ll be safe,” I blurted out, getting everyone’s attention.
  • Dustin just stared at me and smiled. He rubbed his nape and laughed. “That’s impossible. I brought you here for a reason. Be useful,” he said, his voice firm and deep.
  • I knew it. Dustin wasn’t kind at all. He wasn’t friendly either. He only saved me from Theodore because I was still useful. I was a fool to believe that maybe he cared. I should have known better.
  • Werewolves and humans were enemies from the very start.
  • My thoughts were interrupted when I heard a scream coming from the bedroom. A few moments later, a woman who was barely wearing the same robe as mine pulled the door open, revealing her wounded and bloody self.
  • I gasped at the sight of the poor woman. She had a huge wound on her chest and it was bleeding too much. The guards dragged the woman away from the door, unconcerned about her wounds.
  • “No… I’m not going in there. No!” Another woman screamed while two other guards held her by the arms before pushing her inside the bedroom.
  • I blinked my eyes twice. “Layla?” I mumbled my cellmate’s name.
  • It had been three days since I left the cell in the underground prison and I had no idea what happened to the other girls. Was Layla sold again? Knowing Mama, she’d do anything to make money out of us.
  • A couple of seconds passed when I heard Layla’s voice again. She screamed in pain for whatever reason and I couldn’t just do nothing.
  • “Crap!” I pursed my lips and rushed to the door, taking the guards by surprise.
  • “Don’t touch her!” Dustin told the guards who were supposed to drag me away from the door. “She’s the Alpha’s woman. Lay your hand on her and you’ll be dead,” he threatened them.
  • I took my chances to push the door and went inside. Layla was whipped just a few days ago. She’d die if the Alpha hurt her like he did with the previous woman.
  • “Eloisa! Where are you going? It’s not your turn yet. Eloisa!” Dustin called, but to hell with him. He was just like any other werewolves out there.
  • I was obedient all along, but still ended up in hell. I doubt I’d live a better life without doing anything to change my current situation. I was told from a young age to work hard for what I wanted. It was something I should have done before.
  • I wanted freedom, and I had to work for it real fucking hard.
  • “Layla!” I called out my cellmate’s name in the middle of the dark and spacious room. “Layla, where are you? Do you recognize me? It’s Eloisa… Your cellmate. Say something,” I urged, moving around in the hope of finding her.
  • Groans and grumbles came from the corner of the room. I headed in that direction and stumbled on a lying body on the floor.
  • “Layla? Is that you? Hey, answer me!” I held the cold body I found, tracing my fingers on her face while recalling Layla’s features. I let out a sigh of relief when I felt her pulse on the neck.
  • “She’s alive,” I whispered. “It’s okay, Layla. Hang in there. I’ll get us out of here.”
  • I was about to help her up when the atmosphere in the room shifted. A familiar dominating aura crept from behind. Anxiety surged in my body, trembling at the unknown danger I walked myself into.
  • “It’s you,” the Alpha whispered in my ear, seductively. “I couldn’t believe you came,” he breathed, planting feathery kisses on my neck. His hand held mine, making me let go of poor Layla on the floor.
  • I heard a quiet thud when her body fell on the cold floor, but couldn’t do anything when he tightened his grip on me.
  • The Alpha closed the gap between our bodies, making me lose my mind for a reason I couldn’t understand. I closed my eyes to the rhythm of his heartbeat as he wrapped his arm around my waist, pulling me closer to his chest. For a second, I forgot that he was an enemy I needed to subdue, but every time his wet lips touched my skin, I lost all reason I had.
  • It was at that moment, I knew I was done for.
