Chapter 6 Isn't It Too Much?

  • I fall in love with a pastel pink set. It comes with a little blouse, shorts, stockings, gloves, and a little hat, all in pastel pink with some white details.
  • One of the saleswomen allow us to dress the baby in one of the fitting rooms, she looks beautiful in that outfit. I kiss her little head and smile.
  • “Mia, I'm Zoe, your new mom. I promise to take care of you and make you a very strong girl.”
  • I don't know if it is normal to feel the way I am feeling. But I feel complete with little Mia, it is as if she was my daughter and someone I had started to love sincerely.
  • I walk out with her in my arms, when my grandmother and Mrs. Clarisa see her dressed up, they are carried away by their maternal instinct and start expressing how beautiful she looks. Even the store's saleswomen were moved to see her.
  • "We have chosen several things for Mia, I hope you like them."
  • I look at Mrs. Clarisa, who was showing various outfits. As well as blankets and diapers, everything necessary. I am very surprised to see the mountain of clothes they had formed.
  • "Don't you think it's too much?"
  • "Not at all."
  • "Your grandmother is right, this is nothing compared to what Mia will need as she grows. Don't worry, you'll be able to do it. Besides, you have us."
  • "Thank you."
  • "Let's go, we must pay for this and go home. This old lady is exhausted from so much work today."
  • "Alright, grandma."
  • I try to pay for everything that has been chosen, but my grandmother and Mrs. Clarisa refuse. They offer to pay for all the things, I smile and shed a few tears, feeling lucky to have them in my life.
  • Although I have only known Mrs. Clarisa for a short time, I am growing fond of her and at times I feel her as a mother.
  • "Please, wait."
  • I turn to look at the saleswoman who has helped us, she comes with a woman who looks about fifty years old.
  • "Hello, it's a pleasure. I'm Mrs. Clarisa, the owner of this store. Here you go."
  • I look at her strangely when she hands me a bag, I take it and look over what it contains. I am sure we have everything we bought.
  • "I'm sorry, Mrs Clarisa. I think you made a mistake, we have everything we bought."
  • "I know, it's a gift from our store. Your daughter has amazed us all with her beauty, so please, accept this gift."
  • "In that case, I thank you very much."
  • "Thank you very much, ma'am."
  • "This old lady thanks you very much."
  • "Don't worry, I hope you come back soon."
  • "We will."
  • I am happy for the kindness of these people, especially Mrs. Clarisa, for giving us this gift.
  • "Mia, you are a lucky girl."
  • We walk back to the car and put all the things in the trunk. Then we get in and head home.
  • I am entertained watching Mia sleep, so it is my grandmother who has to tell Mrs. Clarisa how to get to our house.
  • As soon as we arrive, I hand Mia to my grandmother to hold her and help Mrs. Clarisa with all the bags containing all of Mia's things, and there are many things.
  • "Mia, Grandma will put you in bed so you can rest for a while."
  • "Please, come in."
  • "Thank you. It's a beautiful house."
  • "It is, my mother left it to me before she passed away. Thanks to her, we haven't had to spend money on rent and we could save as much as we could."
  • "That's good, although I'm sorry to hear about your mother."
  • "I'm okay, really."
  • "I'll come for you tomorrow to accompany you to register Mia as your daughter."
  • "Alright, I'll be waiting for you."
  • "Very well, I must go for now. Take good care of Mia."
  • "I will."
  • I say goodbye to Mrs. Clarisa, and once she leaves, I return to where my grandmother is with Mia.
  • I watch them for a while and then go back to the living room for Mia's things. I take everything to my room and start unpacking everything to store her things in my closet.
  • Just as I finish putting everything away, I hear Mia crying. I run to where she is, my grandmother looks at me and says,
  • " You need to go buy formula for her bottle. She's hungry and you don't produce milk, and neither do I. Go to the pharmacy and buy everything, hurry!"
  • I obey my grandmother, grab my purse and head to the nearest pharmacy. I buy the formula, two bottles, and some creams they recommend to prevent her little body from getting irritated by the diapers, I also buy shampoo, soap, and baby perfume.
  • I return home and show my grandmother everything I bought. She shows me how to prepare Mia's bottle, she wouldn't stop crying from the hunger she had. My grandmother calms her down, while I rush to make her bottle.
  • As soon as I notice it has cooled down, I was going to give it to my grandmother, but she takes it from me and hands Mia to me.
  • " Hold her like this, be careful with her head. Now sit down, you will feed her, from now on she is your daughter and you must learn how to feed her and everything else. I will teach you."
  • " Thank you, grandma."
  • " You're welcome, my dear."
  • I follow my grandmother's instructions and Mia starts drinking her bottle right away.
  • She eats very calmly. I couldn't stop watching her and when I finally look away, I realize my grandmother has prepared another bottle.
  • " I have prepared some more bottles for later, the baby will be hungry at any moment."
  • " Thank you, grandma."
  • " You're welcome, daughter. No, no. That's not how you do it."
  • " What do you mean?"
  • " Give her to me, I'll show you."
  • I don't know what I have done wrong, so I decide to obey her and hand Mia over. She takes her in her arms, puts a small towel over her shoulder, and makes Mia rest her head on her shoulder before gently patting her back.
