Chapter 10 Sit Back and Enjoy the Show
- Hunter was not surprised by the news as Jay had informed him earlier. He replied calmly, “Yeah, I know.”
- Calvin had an inherent charisma that made people naturally gravitate toward him. Hence, everyone followed him to the room without question when he started making his way.
- Hunter grinned at Hannah while directing the question to Calvin. “Was it Mr. Fullerton’s instructions?” The latter nodded in response.
- On the other hand, Zac threw a tantrum as he felt betrayed by his good friends. He lamented, “Why am I the last to know of this? This is so unfair!”
- “Blame it on your lack of awareness.” Calvin took a bottle of wine and threw it at Zac before continuing, “Stop being bitter about it. I’ll help you deal with the matter you asked about earlier.”
- “That’s awesome!” Zac’s mood instantly lightened up and he opened the bottle of wine to celebrate.
- Unlike Hunter and Calvin who had devoted themselves to the business world, Zac’s aim in life was to have fun. He did not have to worry about earning a living as the Paddock family was immensely wealthy. Hence, he often spent his days surrounded by women and learned the art of romance.
- The whole night, Zac kept a close eye on Hannah and spotted Calvin frequently stealing glances at her. He was reminded of his friend's earlier deliberate dodging of his question. He wondered, why did Calvin bring Hannah along? Maybe he doesn’t know the answer either.
- Suddenly, Zac’s eyes lit up in excitement as he thought, hold on a second. Calvin has never allowed any woman to get close to him. Yet, Hannah is able to stay by his side and follow him around. Even though Mr. Fullerton forced their marriage, a man like Calvin will never concede defeat. He’ll be able to think of countless ways to retaliate if he has no feelings for her. We've been taunting him about Hannah's crush on him for years. Perhaps he did not just see her as a sister and has instead fallen in love with her…
- Zac scoffed to himself as he rationalized, Calvin is in danger if he falls in love with such an unscrupulous and ungrateful woman. We need to save him from Hannah! The man immediately whipped out his phone to send a text message.
- Zac smirked to himself in satisfaction as he thought of his plan. Hunter became wary of the man’s signature look as it signaled that he was up to no good. He thought of Zac’s harsh attitude toward Hannah and guessed he was plotting something against her.
- The trio's allocated suite at Club Dazzle was enormous, with a plethora of thrilling facilities and entertainment activities that were tailored to their preferences. It was their hideout and they frequently spent long hours there playing their hearts out. However, there had been less time for reunions since their family had to travel abroad for work.
- The atmosphere in the room today was tense. Calvin sat in a corner sulking quietly and drowning himself in alcohol, occasionally making half-hearted passing remarks. Zac constantly shifted his gaze between Hannah and Calvin, as though he was plotting a scheme in his mind. Hunter was on heightened alert as he watched over Zac, ready to step in if he caused trouble.
- Meanwhile, Hannah sat upright and stared blankly at the table the whole time. She thought inwardly, things are no longer the same. I have been here many times but never have I felt so fearful before. I’m here with the same people I have spent my entire life with, but they feel so distant now. I’m no longer the Fullerton family’s little girl that everyone adored and protected. I’m now a vicious and cunning woman whom everyone hates. She could feel someone’s gaze but did not dare look back for fear that it was Calvin.
- Zac placed his phone back into his pocket after making the necessary arrangements. He took a glass of wine and sat next to Calvin before saying, “Why are you being such a spoil-spot, Calvin? Didn’t you ask us out to have fun? Stop drinking all by yourself and hang out with us.” He turned to Hunter, pouted his lips, and pleaded, “Let’s call in the girls to have some fun. I’m lonely, Hunter.”
- Hunter furrowed his brows and snapped, “When will you learn not to act like a playboy?”
- “Well…” Zac lifted his wine glass and clanked it on Calvin’s before continuing, “Hannah sings quite well. Shall we get her to sing for us?” The man was always fond of teasing Hannah. However, Calvin would defend her nevertheless by warning them that they would face Liam's fury if they mistreated her. Hence, they never dared to overstep their boundaries.
- Hannah had elegant facial features: almond-shaped eyes, a small but sharp nose, and a beautiful smile. Although Zac had plenty of women, none had the allure that Hannah had. Her attractiveness emanated from her charming, innocent appearance and seductive charisma.
- Hannah stared at Zac in disbelief. She was shocked that the man she had known for a long time would make such a derogatory request. It was as though he had taken her as a hostess. Hannah glanced at all the men in the room and wondered, I finally realized that they took good care of me because of Liam. Now that he’s gone, everyone is treating me poorly. Maybe they are learning from Calvin, and they despise me because he despises me.
- Hannah turned to face Calvin and gave him a beseeching look. To her dismay, the man’s expression darkened as he threw the microphone on the table. He then chided, “Didn’t you hear what Zac said? Why are you not picking up the mic? Hurry, sing!”
- Hunter was quick-witted, calling the club hostesses to entertain them the moment Zac made the request. He did not want to aggravate the situation as he knew that Jay was protective of Hannah. After all, she was still part of the Fullerton family since she was married to Calvin. In addition, Hunter’s heart softened when he thought of how they had once treated her like their little sister. Hence, he stood up and opened the door to let the hostesses into the room.
- When the ladies began to arrive, Hannah quickly got to her feet and exhaled in relief. When Hunter observed how helpless and clueless she was, he had a nagging suspicion that Liam’s death may not be as simple as it seemed. Moreover, Jay thought highly of her and had complete faith in her character. He rationalized, would a woman like her be capable of doing something so evil? Did she really turn a blind eye and left Liam alone to die? Could it be that she was too weak to save him? Calvin is a meticulous man, surely he would have investigated the matter. Did he unintentionally overlook such information? Or was it done on purpose?
- The most popular hostess in Club Dazzle, Riley Tyles, saw the opportunity to get close to Hunter and Calvin. She quickly leaned on Calvin and coaxed him, “Cheer up, Calvin!” Next, she started peeling grapes while sneaking peeks at Hannah.
- “Have some grapes to brighten your day, Calvin," Just as Riley was attempting to seduce the man, the door swung open. The loud music, however, muffled out the sound of the door opening. Nobody was alerted to the visitor's presence except for Calvin. He had lifted his head to look for Hannah, who was located near the door.
- When Calvin saw the visitor, he turned around and put the grape Riley had prepared into his mouth.
