Chapter 7 The Pursuit
- “Hey, hey, what are you doing?” Eleanor saw Chadwick start the car again, and her expression, which had just relaxed a bit, turned pale once more.
- “Kathleen has been kidnapped. The culprits are in that van that just passed by!” Chadwick explained without even looking back.
- Upon hearing these words, Eleanor was taken aback. Almost instinctively, she gripped the handgun that was fastened around her waist.
- Meanwhile, in a van that had already moved far away from the mansion district, the leader among the men in black brutally tore off the tape from Kathleen's mouth.
- As soon as the restraint on her mouth was removed, Kathleen couldn't wait to say, “What do you want? Money? I can give you a huge sum, enough for you to live comfortably for the rest of your life.”
- “Ms. Castillo, are you really that naive? Do you think kidnappers like us would have this kind of setup?” the lead person said, showing off the submachine gun in his hands.
- Seeing this scene and recalling how her door was blown up earlier, Kathleen felt her heart sink.
- Indeed, no matter how you looked at these kidnappers, they didn't seem like ordinary people.
- The mansions in Forlisle Bay had professional anti-theft doors. These fully armed individuals were clearly all well-trained figures.
- Born into a prestigious family, Kathleen may not have encountered such matters before, but she still had some knowledge. She soon realized that today's situation was probably not going to end well.
- “I won't beat around the bush. Someone wants to see you.” The lead kidnapper smirked, and his smile was quite chilling.
- “Who is it?” Kathleen forced herself to stay calm and asked expressionlessly.
- “You'll know when the time comes.” The kidnapper chuckled, without revealing the truth.
- At this moment, the driver in front of the van glanced at the rearview mirror, then quickly said, “Boss, it seems like we're being followed.”
- “Being followed?” The lead kidnapper was taken aback, then his expression darkened. He quickly turned to look behind.
- By now, the van had left the city area, and although there were streetlights on the road, it seemed dim.
- On this slightly dimly lit street, apart from their van, there was only a very ordinary Toyota sedan left behind.
- “Is this the Toyota that passed us at the entrance to the villa area?” The lead kidnapper quickly remembered the origin of this Toyota.
- The leader quickly realized that encountering the Toyota again was no coincidence. So, he patted the driver's seat and said, “Speed up, lose them!”
- He said “speed up”, but, in fact, the van's accelerator had long been pressed to the floor. The van's speed was hovering around one hundred and twenty kilometers per hour at this moment.
- So, no matter how hard the driver tried, he couldn't shake off the Toyota that was getting closer.
- A few minutes passed, and the two cars were only a few meters apart.
- At this moment, Chadwick could already clearly see the scene inside the van in front. Even though he could only see the back, he could recognize the only woman in the van—his target for this trip, Kathleen.
- Simultaneously, the kidnappers had already understood the situation on Chadwick's side.
- “Boss, they're almost catching up!” the driver said, his face grim.
- Upon hearing these words, the kidnapper's leader's face grew increasingly grim. They had taken the daughter of the Castillo family hostage, and if possible, the boss didn't want any mishaps to occur.
- After all, this wasn't a simple business of taking a life. If the Castillo family found even the slightest evidence, they wouldn't be able to escape the Castillo family's retaliation, no matter where they ran.
- “D*mn it. Keep driving, I'll handle this!”
- Seeing the situation getting worse, the lead kidnapper finally gritted his teeth. Without hesitation, he half-kneeled in the back of the van, picked up the submachine gun in his hand, and pulled the trigger!
- Thud, thud, thud...
- In the pitch-black and silent night, aside from the roar of the engines, there was now the crisp sound of bullets being fired.
- The Uzi submachine gun's firing rate was astonishingly fast. In the blink of an eye, the entire magazine of bullets was depleted by the lead kidnapper.
- However, the face of the kidnapper's leader grew increasingly grim. Just as he was about to pull the trigger, that Toyota swerved at an incredibly high speed, dodging most of the bullets, and even closing the distance between them.
- Seeing this scene, the lead kidnapper took out a new magazine, but before he could replace it, two sudden gunshots broke the silence of the night once again.
- On the other side, inside the Toyota, when Chadwick saw the sudden appearance of a gun barrel behind the van, he instinctively jerked the steering wheel, evading the majority of the bullets with a skillful drift.
- And just when the gunshots from the van had stopped for less than a second, Chadwick suddenly took the handgun from Eleanor's side and fired two shots toward the front of the van.
- Bang, bang!
- Everything happened in just a few seconds. When the gunshots from Chadwick fell, Eleanor finally realized that her handgun had somehow ended up in Chadwick's hands.
- In the van ahead, the kidnapper's leader widened his eyes, his gaze revealing disbelief.
- On his forehead, the mask he wore had a small hole burned into it by the high temperature of the bullet. The unabated bullet continued its path, piercing through his skull and lodging itself within his wicked brain.
- “Boss! Boss!”
- The unexpected demise of the kidnapper's leader quickly incited panic among the other three kidnappers in the vehicle. Just then, the relentless Toyota that had been in hot pursuit finally found its chance, overtaking the van.
- As he overtook, the van driver turned his head in surprise, only to meet Chadwick's playful gaze head-on.
- Immediately after, the van driver seemed to realize something. However, before he could even step on the brakes, Chadwick once again violently turned the steering wheel, positioning his car's front against the front of the van.
- While traveling at high speed, even the slightest disturbance could potentially cause an accident, let alone a situation where two cars directly collide.
- Almost the instant the two vehicles collided, the van embarrassingly rolled over, while the Toyota also began to spin in place. However, under Chadwick's control, the Toyota quickly and steadily came to a halt at the side.
- The sudden car accident left Eleanor, who was sitting in the passenger seat, pale with fright. When the car finally came to a halt, and she realized she was unharmed, she quickly directed a furious glare at Chadwick, who was beside her.
- “Have you lost your mind? If you don't value your life, I certainly value mine!”
- When Eleanor erupted, she only then realized that the driver's seat was already empty.
- “Where is he?” With a puzzled expression, she pushed open the car door, only to find that Chadwick had somehow already stood next to the overturned van.
