Chapter 6 In The Nick Of Time
- Regardless of whether Eleanor was willing or not, she was ultimately dragged by Chadwick to the car.
- “Is this your car?” Eleanor looked at the compact car in front of her, feeling puzzled about Chadwick's intentions.
- Chadwick turned his head, casting a mocking glance at Eleanor.
- “Do I look like someone who owns a car?” He pointed to the clothes he was wearing.
- It was only at this moment that Eleanor realized the mysterious guy in front of her was dressed in a prison uniform.
- “You—”
- “Enough with your stammering. Saving lives is more important!” Chadwick impatiently waved his hand, interrupting Eleanor. Then, he extended his hand, flicking a finger toward the car window.
- Crash!
- The window shattered, and Chadwick skillfully opened the door after breaking the window. He fiddled with something on the central console, and soon after, the engine roared to life.
- “Hey! Stealing a car is illegal! And... why are you so proficient at this?” Eleanor almost didn't know how to comment on Chadwick's actions.
- Chadwick, on the other hand, sat nonchalantly in the driver's seat. He patted the passenger seat, saying, “Get in! I'll take you for a ride!”
- Meanwhile, in the Forlisle Bay mansion district of the northern suburbs of Strico, Kathleen was sitting on the sofa, looking at the laptop on the table.
- On the computer screen, an energetic old man was earnestly advising Kathleen.
- If Chadwick were present at the moment, he would undoubtedly recognize this old man as Chadwick, the lieutenant general who had given him orders not long ago in the underwater prison.
- “Grandpa Maxwell, I am very safe in Strico. You don't need to worry about me at all.” Kathleen's tone was icy, seemingly innate.
- Her entire sentence had no fluctuation as if spoken with a single pitch.
- On the screen, the elderly man addressed as “Grandpa Maxwell” sighed lightly. “Kathleen, now is not the time to be willful. Your father is in trouble!”
- Maxwell's tone was extremely solemn, but even so, it still failed to evoke any reaction in Kathleen's expression.
- “He is him, and I am me. Even if he is dead, it has nothing to do with me!”
- When her father was mentioned, Kathleen's impatience became even more apparent.
- She seemed to have lost interest in continuing the conversation. Making a move to close the screen, she said, “Grandpa Maxwell, it's getting late. You should rest now, I'm going to sleep too. As for the bodyguard, no matter what you say, I would never agree.”
- Right after she said that, the door to her mansion was knocked.
- Knock, knock, knock!
- The knocking sound was light, but it caused both Kathleen and the elderly man on the screen to blanch simultaneously.
- “It's so late. Who could it be?” Confused, Kathleen stood up and walked toward the front door.
- “Wait!” Sensing something amiss, Maxwell stopped Kathleen, who was about to open the door.
- At this moment, there was a loud bang, completely breaking the expensive door of Kathleen's mansion!
- “Kathleen, what's happening on your end?” Maxwell asked, worried after hearing the loud noise.
- His question went unanswered. Just as Kathleen was about to respond, the uninvited guest who had barged into the mansion had already slammed the laptop shut.
- “Ms. Castillo?” A masked man in black, raising his eyebrows, was sizing up the graceful figure of Kathleen.
- “Who are you? What are you doing in my house? Do you have any idea who I am?” Kathleen exclaimed sternly as she retreated slightly.
- Her question made the smile on the face of the man in black grew even more intense.
- He took out a photo from his pocket and confirmed that Kathleen was the person in the picture. A satisfied smile spread across his lips. “Kathleen Castillo, the eldest daughter of the Castillo family. I have long heard of your name. Anyone who works in Strico knows about you.”
- “Since you know who I am, you should understand the consequences of offending me!” Kathleen said coldly, but the panic in her eyes couldn't be concealed.
- It seemed as though she was fearless in the face of danger at that moment, but in the end, she was just a vulnerable woman. How could she possibly not be afraid when confronted with a man who meant harm?
- “If I were afraid, I wouldn't have come!” The leader of the men in black snorted coldly, ignoring Kathleen's threat and instead waving to his subordinates behind him.
- “Take her away!”
- Under the coercion of several black-clad individuals, Kathleen had no resistance. She was captured and taken to a van parked at the entrance of the mansion.
- At the same time, Chadwick was driving nonchalantly. He even lit a cigarette with his other hand.
- As for this cigarette, it was left behind by the owner of this car. It was a Marlboro, which suited Chadwick.
- In the passenger seat, Eleanor looked pale. She gripped the handle above her head tightly, unwilling to let go.
- “Slow down!” As the scenery on both sides rapidly retreated, Eleanor instinctively glanced at the car's dashboard.
- He was driving at a speed of one hundred and thirty kilometers per hour.
- Chadwick paid no attention to Eleanor's unreasonable request. Continuing to floor the accelerator, he asked without turning his head, “Which way next?”
- “Tu-turn right at the next intersection... We're... almost there! Ah!” Right after saying that, Eleanor couldn't help but scream again.
- In her line of sight, just after Chadwick had turned right, a van came hurtling toward their sedan!
- “Brake! Hit the brakes!” Eleanor even closed her eyes in fear. She regretted getting into Chadwick's car.
- This was no ordinary car, it was clearly a hearse!
- Squeak!
- The tires screeched against the pavement, emitting an ear-piercing noise. Chadwick narrowly avoided the van, a close call that left not only Eleanor but also himself, breathing a sigh of relief.
- “D*mn it, if it weren't for my quick reflexes, I might have lost my life.”
- At this moment, he subconsciously turned his head to look at the van, which had already left.
- Although night had already fallen, Chadwick was still able to clearly see the situation inside the van, thanks to the faint light from the street lamp.
- Four men and a woman were inside, yet the woman's mouth had been sealed shut with tape!
- Just then, Chadwick's phone in his pocket suddenly rang.
- “Hello?” A slight unease settled in Chadwick's heart as he answered the call. Simultaneously, he steered the car in a different direction.
- “Chadwick! Something's happened to Kathleen!” Maxwell's voice echoed from the other end. He quickly explained, “A van kidnapped Kathleen at Strico's Forlisle Bay mansion district!”
- A cold smile played on Chadwick's lips. He restarted the car.
- On the other end, unaware of Chadwick's situation, Maxwell continued, “The van's license plate is...”
- “KW211,” Chadwick told him.
- “That's right, KW211... Wait, how do you know?”
- “Because that damn van is right in front of me!”
- With a cold expression, Chadwick once again floored the accelerator.
