Chapter 9 Poison Him
- The person in the mirror was unwashed and unkempt.
- Her hair was a tangled mess since she hadn’t washed it for a long time and frequently scratched her head.
- As for her face…
- Even though it had become palm-sized and was no longer swelling, it was covered in dirty black spots.
- Yvonne’s face had become swollen after being severely infected during an earlier experiment. As the redness and swelling reduced, toxins were discharged from the skin and formed spots of coagulated dirt on her face.
- However, since she had been busying herself with the project over the past few days, Yvonne hardly had time to clean herself up.
- At this very moment, her face looked as nauseating as a dried sewage ditch.
- Yvonne suddenly understood why the servant had looked at her as if she was something disgusting just now. In fact, she found her face disgusting to look at as well!
- She quickly took a shower; having washed her hair and cleaned the dirt from her face, she touched her now-recovered face with deep furrows in her brow. “I can’t show myself like this!”
- Then, her eyes fell upon a heap of cosmetics at one side; among them were several facial masks.
- Yvonne took a seaweed facial mask and applied it on her face before coming out of the toilet. Before she could finish getting changed, she suddenly heard an urgent knock at the door as someone called, “Yvonne, it’s Dad. I’m here to see you.”
- Never expecting that Benjamin would go upstairs directly, Yvonne went to open the door.
- As soon as she opened the door, Benjamin stepped back in fright at the sight of the black facial mask on Yvonne’s face. He asked, “W-Who are you?”
- Yvonne replied in a soft and sweet voice, “I’m Yvonne, Dad!”
- Benjamin asked, “Why did you make yourself look like this?”
- Yvonne looked hurt as she replied, “I just wanted to make myself a little more presentable. Why have you come upstairs, Dad?”
- Having regained his composure, Benjamin feigned fondness for her and said, “I just want to have a look at my son-in-law.”
- He entered the room as he spoke, but he didn’t even take a glance at Henry on the bed. Instead, his eyes were focused on the door. Seeing that there wasn’t anyone at the door, he quickly took a drug packet out of his pocket and stuffed it into Yvonne’s hand.
- Yvonne looked at Benjamin puzzledly.
- Benjamin hastily explained, “I have thought about it over the last few days; even though Young Master Henry of the Kingston Family is now a living corpse with at most only a month or two to live, I really can’t bear watching you suffer in the Kingston Family! Since that is the case, why don’t we relieve him from his suffering? This will be good for the both of you!”
- Then, he pointed at the drug packet in Yvonne’s hand and said, “This is a slow poison; feed it to him, and he will die without anyone realizing. Nobody will suspect you since everyone will believe that he died a natural death.”
- Dumbstruck, Yvonne stared at Benjamin with her mouth wide open.
- Benjamin patted Yvonne’s arm and said with a benign expression, “This is for your own good; I’m doing this so that you can regain your freedom!”
- Just then, somebody’s footsteps were heard outside the door.
- Upon hearing the footsteps, Benjamin immediately changed the subject and said, “Yvonne, stay here and remember to take good care of Henry. You two are now husband and wife, so you must get along well with him!”
- The instant Benjamin finished his sentence, Mr. Statham arrived. He said with a stern face, “Mr. Page, the Young Master doesn’t like strangers to enter his room as they please.”
- Mr. Statham didn’t expect Benjamin to go upstairs and enter the Young Master’s room when he wasn’t looking.
- Even though Young Master Henry was now lying unconscious, Mr. Statham wouldn’t let anyone set foot in the former’s room easily. Therefore, he was repulsed by the way Benjamin broke the rules of etiquette and thoughtlessly went upstairs.
- Benjamin looked displeased upon hearing Mr. Statham’s words. He said, “How am I a stranger? I am Henry’s father-in-law! Since when do servants like you point a finger at your masters?”
