Chapter 6 Ethan
- “Do you know how much I called you last night,” Sarah's voice barks through the phone.
- “I supposed greeting is ancient to you” drinking my coffee as I overlook the city from my penthouse.
- The sun trying to make her presence known between two tall buildings that block the picture she is trying to paint with the sky around her.
- Everything looks so small from up here, but the peace and quiet of the early morning is obvious with how much activity is going on below.
- Sarah had been blowing my phone up since yesterday night and I knew it was a matter of time before she showed up, quite surprised she hadn’t even.
- “Don't patronize me, Ethan. We are getting married, I demand respect “her voice fills the speaker.
- Respect as in making sure she is in charge of my life and is aware of my every movement, Sarah is one of the delusional, I wonder what made her interesting that one time.
- “Sarah, if you can't reach me, it means I am otherwise preoccupied.”
- “On Friday midnight “her voice insinuating otherwise but I remain unfazed.
- “Some of us have more pressing matters than what the print magazine releases next.”
- At this, she scoffs.
- “Ethan...” she begins but I cut her off.
- “If you have nothing more important to say, I have work to do“ I end the call.
- She got what she wanted, if she thinks she can turn me into her puppet then she’s up for a ride leading to the greatest disappointment.
- Taking a shower turned out longer than necessary as a certain memory burned my mind.
- That feeling was nothing like before and I didn’t even touch her. The way her body glided over the pole, grinding against it made my little member ache. She was like a present I was going to take my time unwrapping.
- My doorbell rings, and I go take it, definitely won’t be a surprise if it was Sarah but the wide grin that greets me belongs to a blonde, blue-eyed fellow, my brother.
- “What are you doing here “I ask him.
- “I missed you too bro” Josh pushes himself past me into the living room walking lazily in his sweats. I’m not surprised he woke up and zombie his way here.
- “When did you get here,” I follow him to the open island as he checks the fridge.
- “At least pretend to miss me too,” he says.
- When I don’t speak “Last night” continuing his search “You don’t have anything to eat” he pouts finally turning to me and I snicker “I was about to go out for breakfast”
- “You see, this is why I love you” he claps his hands together, walking to the door before turning to me “Well, what are you waiting for?" his resemblance to our father is uncanny unlike Phillip and I.
- Josh is my notorious little brother, he hates my father’s guts as much as I do and I admire him for that.
- However, his constant ability to put mom into a worrying mess makes me want to punch him.
- The café is modern been renovated a couple of times, It's a miracle it is still here, the smallest amongst the buildings on this street, but it's already busy as my brother and I sit by the window.
- A waiter comes to take our order and my brother requested a lot on the menu, which makes me smile though I hide it.
- “A simple text would have been fine,” I say to him as I watch him swallow a whole croissant.
- “I’m going to see her anyway so what’s the worry, besides I told her I was coming in yesterday” the words come out muffled by his full mouth “Stop making mom worried and take your calls or at least reply your voicemails”
- he gasps.
- “No way, you called me” his eyebrows almost at his hairline “Mom requested your presence for dinner”
- “Not yet, I have an appointment this evening”
- “Clubbing you mean”
- “Come on brother it’s a Saturday, you really want me at a family dinner on a Saturday.”
- “I don’t care what your appointment is, mom wants you there so you’ll be there”
- "You know, as much as I love you, I always forget are bossy you are. I’m not your employee.”
- “Exactly, so don’t act like one” I take a bite of my breakfast.
- “How did your last shoot go,” I ask he pauses probably taken aback by the fact that I asked.
- I forget sometimes that even though he is no longer with us, we all grew up under our father.
- Josh was the only one who put up a good fight and left, becoming a popular Director without any connection to Reynolds's name.
- The fact that he used his mom's name was ballsy, father was not in support but well, Josh was just that stubborn.
- “It was great, awesome even, the budget we got for the whole production came as a surprise…” and he goes on telling me about the whole thing.
- “That is good to know,” I say when he finishes.
- “How’s the company” he asks.
- “A little hurdle here and there, what Is new” I give him a small smile after taking a sip from my juice.
- “I can’t believe you marrying Sarah” he points out.
- It's no news who Sarah is between us but I don’t think ranting to my brother about this shared sentiment would change anything.
- We continue small talk until we are done and my brother asks me to drop him off at the hotel he is staying in the meantime.
- “Dinner by seven, Mom texted, you got one too, be there Josh.”
- The day rushes by as I try to finish up some work that’s been pending as I cannot afford rest.
- The drive to my father’s house is long and unpleasant; a feeling that is becoming a norm whenever I go there. My hands squeeze the steering wheel.
- “Ethan” moms face brightens up with a smile when I enter the living room she was talking to Josh and he smiled when he saw me.
- “Evening Mom” I greet her with a peck when I reach her,
- “Evening to you too bro.”
- I nod in his direction “I told you to at least pretend you miss me” he says.
- “I’m sure that word belongs only to you brother,” I tell him.
- “Is Phillip with you?” she asks.
- “He’s not here yet?.... running late as usual then” assuring her he will make it.
- “Father?” I ask even though I already know of his whereabouts.
- “He’s in his study, I’ll go check how dinner Is coming along, come down with him will you” she says before going to the kitchen while I make my way upstairs.
- Dinner with my family left me sour after my conversation with my father, mom was happy to finally have all her children together at the dinner table after so many years, I was famished since I didn’t get to eat lunch but all I did was pick at my food and finally excused myself to a call.
- “I’ll do it.”
- I drive straight to Gordon’s club to see the masked lady walking off the dice already done with her performance, and I follow her, she makes a turn and enters a room at the end of the hall.
- I pull at the knob and it opens, so I walk in.
- I overheard some of their conversation yesterday before leaving and have decided on a way to get her to be mine.
- “Don’t bug me now Gordon, I’m not signing anything??” she says turning to me as she unmasks herself but freezes halfway when she recognizes who I am.
- She tightens the ropes back on and pulls a robe over herself,
- “What are you doing in here?”
- “We meet again” I stalk her.
- “You are not supposed to be in here” she backs up until she hits the table behind her with no place to go.
- “Why not?” I say when I’m finally a few inches away from her.
- Her green eyes are clear as they pierced into my soul the innocence in them right now different from yesterday’s feistiness.
- Her dark hair was down today in several waves, red lips waiting to be smeared.
- “This is the changing room for workers Sir” she bites out.
- “Sir…” I draw out “I like the sound of that."
- “I’m here for the redo you offered. I have a proposition that might catch your interest.”
- She laughs to herself.
- “If you want a private performance then go pay to have one, if not I don’t have sex with guests,” she says folding her hands.
- I laugh at her insinuation, oh, I am going to enjoy this.
- “You might want to reconsider,” I say leaning into her.
- “As it may grant you your freedom” she furrows her brows at this.
