Chapter 10 I Have Many Friends
- Mitchell was taken aback. He looked at Chauncey as if he had seen a ghost.
- “No way, you can't possibly have a crush on Natalie, can you?”
- Chauncey didn't rush to respond.
- As Chauncey watched Natalie's figure recede into the distance, he fell into deep thought.
- He realized that his reincarnation this time came with a significant drawback.
- Apart from knowing that Natalie liked him, he was completely clueless about everything else concerning her.
- In his previous life, he had only shared a desk with Natalie for two days.
- Afterward, he watched her from the afterlife, observing everything she did for him, even dying out of love for him.
- He truly didn't have the chance to understand.
- He regretted not asking his classmates in his dreams about the kind of person Natalie truly was.
- Now, he was left in complete darkness.
- He didn't pay any heed to Mitchell's words as he responded, “Why not?”
- Mitchell truly felt as if he had seen a ghost.
- “But isn't this the first time you've met her today? How did you fall for her so quickly?”
- Chauncey finally snapped back to reality, staring at Mitchell as if he were a complete fool.
- “What's wrong? Can't I have feelings?”
- “You can, but... what about Roxanne?”
- “Big Mitch, are you having trouble understanding me? Didn't I tell you this morning that I'm done being a lapdog?”
- “You were serious?”
- Mitchell had thought that Chauncey was just joking.
- Once upon a time, Chauncey had skipped classes and gotten into fights for Roxanne.
- Last night, he had even talked about wanting to give Roxanne a massive surprise, making sure she could never leave him again.
- Mitchell hadn't anticipated that, after a single night plus a Hundred-Day Countdown Pep Rally, these vows would instantly turn into nothing but empty words.
- Is this what they call a sc*mbag in the legends?
- He's really something!
- “Of course.”
- While he was speaking, Chauncey cast another glance toward the crowd.
- Realizing that he could no longer see Natalie's figure, he let out a sigh.
- “It's all your fault that I lost Nat.”
- Once again, Mitchell was taken aback. He stepped back, muttering in disbelief, “Don't scare me like this. You're not possessed by a ghost, are you? Are... you still Chauncey?”
- Even if it's love at first sight, isn't this a bit too much?
- Why is he acting like a freak?
- Annoyed, Chauncey raised his hand, landing a firm slap on Mitchell's shoulder.
- “What are you talking about?”
- Mitchell let out a cry of pain, suddenly realizing that if he didn't change the subject, his arm would surely break.
- “Um... How about we spend the whole night at the internet café this weekend? Chauncey, it hurts!”
- Chauncey released his grip from Mitchell's shoulder.
- “No!”
- “Huh? But you promised to play video games with me last week...”
- “I've given up gaming!”
- “What? Why? Without you, I can't win!”
- “I want to study hard with Nat!”
- Mitchell cast a disdainful glance at Chauncey.
- “Chauncey, why do I get the feeling that when you say 'study', it sounds as weak as your physique?”
- Suppressing the urge to send Mitchell flying with a kick, Chauncey adjusted his trousers.
- “Wanna fight it out?”
- “Oh, forget it. Chauncey, you're not gonna study for real, right?”
- Why would I want to participate in such a tacky competition?
- But it's not because I can't compete at all.
- “I am.”
- “Then... what should I do?”
- Chauncey draped his arms around Mitchell's shoulders.
- “I heard you have a few buddies at Second High School.”
- “Yeah, I have many friends.”
- “Then help me out with something.”
- “What is it?”
- “Help me look up Natalie.”
- Natalie had transferred from Second High School.
- But the university entrance exam was just around the corner. Why would she transfer to First High School?
- Chauncey felt it was quite necessary to understand it better.
- Mitchell was once again surprised.
- “Even though I'm close with them, investigating a girl might make me come off as creepy...”
