Chapter 12 Practically Family

  • He raised his hand and immediately covered his ears.
  • “I'm deaf now. I can't hear a thing. Go on, you guys keep talking.”
  • Seeing Roxanne hesitating still, Chauncey added, “If you're not going to speak, we'll be leaving.”
  • Roxanne quickly stopped him, her voice tinged with emotion.
  • “Chauncey, aren't you planning to give me an explanation? The roses you had this morning were clearly meant for me, so why did you give them to Stanley?”
  • Chauncey looked at her in surprise.
  • Do all the beauties these days tend to be so narcissistic?
  • However, it wasn't surprising to hear such words coming from Roxanne's mouth.
  • She had always been this way. Even in his past life, she had treated him the same.
  • It's a pity that in my past life, I was so blind that I couldn't even see through such simple tricks. This self-entitled campus belle doesn't actually have feelings for me. She simply enjoys the feeling of being adored by me.
  • “Who said it was a gift for you? I wanted to give it to all the teachers.”
  • Clearly skeptical, Roxanne retorted, “No way, you... weren't you trying to confess your feelings for me?”
  • “How did you know I was going to confess my feelings to you? Did I mention it to you beforehand?”
  • “I... You used to confess your feelings to me every week, but it's already been two weeks this time...”
  • “So, what's your point?”
  • “So, this time, you must be planning to confess your feelings to me, right?”
  • What in the world? What sort of weird logic is that?
  • However, in his past life, he did intend to confess his feelings, but he wasn't going to do the same in this one.
  • “Roxanne, I believe it's best not to overthink things. You're aware that I used to confess my feelings to you every week, right? Did you ever accept them? Yes, I did like you back then, but I don't anymore. I don't want to confess my feelings anymore, and I won't in the future. Do you understand? Starting from today, you go your way, and I'll go mine. Goodbye.”
  • After he finished speaking, Chauncey, pulling the stunned Mitchell, headed toward the classroom.
  • Roxanne was left dumbfounded.
  • She stood frozen in place, her eyes filled with disbelief.
  • What did Chauncey say? He no longer likes me? When did this happen? He has been in love with me for nearly six years! Graduation is right around the corner. What gives him the right to suddenly lose interest? No, this can't be true! Chauncey must certainly be trying to get back at me for consistently rejecting his pursuit. In that case, it would be best to ignore him for a few days. Let's see who gives in first!
  • On the way back to the classroom, Mitchell gave Chauncey a discreet thumbs up.
  • “Chauncey, you're amazing!”
  • At First High School, no one had ever spoken to Roxanne in that manner before.
  • The latter was so upset that her face had turned all red.
  • As expected, Chauncey was no longer the same person.
  • “Cut the cr*p. When you see Roxanne next time, don't just call out her name for no reason!”
  • He always gets me into trouble.
  • “Alright, but Chauncey, was what you just said true?”
  • “Which part?”
  • “Um... That... that part about...”
  • Mitchell scratched his head sheepishly, noticing that Chauncey had lost interest. Lowering his head, he repeated, “The part about me being practically family.”
  • Chauncey cast him a disdainful glance.
  • Unexpectedly, Mitchell had taken his words to heart.
  • Of course it was true. After all, following his expulsion in his previous life, Mitchell was the only one who treated him well.
  • After the death of his father, it was Mitchell who had stood by his side during his toughest days.
  • It was a pity that later on, something terrible happened to him.
  • Otherwise, he wouldn't have ended up dead with no one to claim his body.
  • In Chauncey's view, Mitchell was the best friend he could ever have.
  • That said, there was no need for him hear such sentimental words.
  • Thus, Chauncey intentionally kept Mitchell in suspense.
  • “Well... it depends on your performance!”
  • After he finished speaking, he swiftly dashed into the classroom.
  • “Huh? Chauncey, you...”
  • Despite realizing he had been played, Mitchell didn't get angry.
  • “Fine, I'll definitely prove it to you!”
  • Humming a tune to himself, he made his way into the classroom.
  • Since Chauncey considered him a good friend, he took it upon himself to share the former's burden, whatever it was.
  • Mitchell had made up his mind; he was determined to do his best it came to matters involving Chauncey.
