Chapter 6 Have You Lost Your Mind
- He never once looked back at her.
- That day, Chauncey seemed somewhat different.
- “Chauncey, what exactly happened? Did Roxanne upset you?”
- As soon as Mitchell arrived in the classroom, he took the seat right next to Chauncey.
- Chauncey nudged him. “Don't sit here. Get up!”
- This seat is reserved for Natalie.
- What if she sees someone sitting here later and decides she doesn't want to sit here anymore?
- The fact that he had been reincarnated had become a reality.
- He was afraid that something unforeseen might happen.
- Mitchell completely disregarded his words and plopped himself down without a second thought.
- “Tell me what happened first. Do you need me to apologize to Roxanne on your behalf?”
- Chauncey gave him an annoyed glance. “Mitchell, don't you think I look like some sort of animal, constantly chasing after Roxanne every day?”
- “Huh? What animal?”
- Chauncey playfully stuck out his tongue.
- In that era, the term “lapdog” had not yet come into existence.
- “A dog?”
- Mitchell scratched his head, recalling Chauncey's daily displays of attentiveness.
- “You do look like one.”
- “Yeah, so I've decided not to pursue Roxanne anymore.”
- “Huh?”
- “I don't want to be a lapdog.”
- In this life, Chauncey simply yearned to live honorably as a regular person. He sought genuine affection and a blissfully happy family.
- That was Chauncey's wish.
- “The term 'lapdog' suits you well, Chauncey. It's quite fitting for you...”
- Mitchell gave a thumbs up, only to catch Chauncey's glare that could kill. He quickly responded with a sheepish grin.
- “But Chauncey, even though I don't quite understand what you're saying, I feel like you're making sense. I've got your back!”
- “Thanks, but dude”—Chauncey looked him up and down—”I think you need to lose some weight!”
- At eighteen, Mitchell, standing five feet six, already weighed one hundred and seventy-six pounds.
- He was genuinely quite overweight.
- Mitchell was taken aback. “What are you talking about? That's too hard. Why are you suddenly acting like my mom? I can't give up my cola, chips, and ice cream. We're done being friends!”
- He darted back to his seat as if he was terrified that Chauncey would actually make him go on a diet.
- Chauncey was rendered speechless.
- At that moment, the school bell rang for class.
- Chauncey quickly straightened up, but after a moment of thought, he felt something was off. Swiftly, he snatched a roll of paper from Mitchell's desk and diligently wiped the table and chair next to him.
- Due to his constant inattentiveness, mischief, and talking during class, the teacher had Chauncey sit alone at a table in the very back row.
- He didn't have a seatmate.
- It was precisely for this reason that Natalie was arranged to be by his side.
- “Chauncey, have you lost your mind?”
- Mitchell found Chauncey's behavior puzzling. It wasn't just once that Chauncey had acted out of character that day.
- “Quiet!”
- The homeroom teacher, Janice Willowby, entered the classroom dressed in a short down jacket paired with a mid-length skirt, her feet clad in high-heeled ankle boots.
- The students let out a collective gasp of disbelief.
- Chauncey also lifted his head.
- As he took in Janice's appearance, he was taken aback.
- In his memory, Janice was always dressed simply in a shirt, jeans, and white sneakers, never wearing makeup.
- That day, she actually wore lipstick.
- In his previous life, Chauncey had whistled the loudest.
- But that day, he quickly looked behind Janice.
- A young girl stood there, trying to make herself as unobtrusive as possible, her thin frame resembling a paper cutout.
- Just as when they first met in their previous life, she was carrying a patched-up grey-pink backpack, wearing a school uniform that was a size too large for her frame.
- With her hands nervously clasped together and her head bowed low, she trod cautiously.
- Her complexion was fair, but due to her thinness, she appeared somewhat sickly.
- With large black-rimmed glasses and thick bangs, her features were almost impossible to discern.
- Natalie!
- A sudden realization struck Chauncey as he recalled his previous life. He remembered her small figure, curled up and sobbing in a corner after she had arranged his funeral.
- How he wished he could pull her into his embrace at that time.
