Chapter 7

  • Alice’s POV
  • The only explanation I could find for the words I have just heard, was that my hearing was not ok. Maybe I should go check it out with our pack doctor. Sheila was a good friend of mine, and she would sure tell me the truth. Since I made up my mind I stood up and only then did I realize everyone was gone. A moment later Neil stood up as well with a weird look on his face. Well, weird since he was looking at me as if I was a crazy person, so I only raised a brow in his direction to let him know he better speak up because I was really not in a mood to lose words, and thank God he understood the hint, “Where are you going?”
  • Now who was crazy? In what universe does he even have a right to control me and ask me where I was going? Not in this universe or more precisely in my pack. I was not obliged to tell anyone my whereabouts and maybe that was only one more reason why I did not want to be mated. Having a mate meant that someone always knew where you were, what you were doing and with whom, not because they could sense it, see it or hear it, but because you were so blinded by the bond that you told your other half everything. I am not proud of my next train of thoughts, but still I wondered, how did my mother manage to surprise the urge to tell my father everything when she started making plans with the rogue king? Never mind we will have to do research a bit later and figure out all those things, because right now I had an Alpha male who had to be put in his rightful place, “Listen to me very carefully Alpha Neil. Where I am going is none of your concern, but since you asked so politely, I am going to see the pack doctor, because something must be wrong with my hearing. It was as if I heard you say that you would help me find my mother and destroy the kingdom which she rules now. And I know you would not be stupid enough to insinuate I am incapable of finding her on my own.” As the words left my mouth, I could see his nostrils flaring and I knew I was in big trouble.
  • Jessy told me once upon a time that my mouth would sooner or later get me into trouble and here, I am…
  • One moment I was looking at his pissed of face and the next my back hit the wall that was on the other side of the room from where we were standing a moment ago and I am embarrassed to admit this, but his dominant side was turning me on. If I did not manage to get my hormones and Lily under control fast, he would soon be able to smell my arousal and I most definitely did not want that to happen.
  • “Now you listen to me princess. I have swallowed many words that you have said to me since yesterday when we arrived, but it seems as if you have a sassy side on full mode today. You called me stupid now and you will not make the same mistake ever again. And most of all do not put words in my mouth. I was not in any way referring to you being incapable of finding or catching her on your own, but to me it seems you are having trouble, just the same as I am having trouble finding the rogue king. So, if you forget your ego for a moment and look at the problem in a way, where we have the same problem and same target, you will soon realize there would be better chances if we worked together. My pack is as huge as yours and together we can cover twice the amount of ground we would on our own, but if we work together there would not be a chance of us going through the same territory twice. And believe it or not, the Moon Goddess paired us together for a good reason, even if we are not able to see that reason at the moment.”
  • Ok, he might have a point but I would never admit that to him out loud so instead of saying anything I just scoffed and tried to get away from him as fast as possible because my arousal was barely kept under control at this point and all I wanted to do was rub myself all over him so every female wolf in our pack would know he belongs to me.
  • Damn mate bond and hormones and everything. I wanted to turn back time for a few weeks and change my decision about the ball I was organizing. It would mean that I would not have met him, and I would still be able to go through life without this mate bond in my way. But it was as it was, so I had no other choice but to stay strong and had to resist him and his charms.
  • “You and your God forsaken bond can both go to hell. I do not want to have a mate! Not years ago, not now, not ever! I want to have my own life back where I can be free and not controlled by someone who wants to look at everything I am doing and whom am I hanging around with! I do not want you! And I can manage to capture both the rogue king and my mother all on my own!”
  • The growl that escaped him was nothing unexpected, because let’s be honest, what would you expect from a provoked wolf?
  • “Watch your words little wolf, or I might just mark you without your agreement.” Now he got my complete attention. I hoped he would not go against my will and forcefully mark me, but I knew better. Mate bond could not be ignored forever and the more you resist, worse the pull became. You wanted your other half, to be next to them, to protect them, to love them and give them everything. And that is what was not ok with me. You would do anything for your mate, without any questions asked, you would have no reservations and that was not ok. Because you would be willing to commit a murder for your mate. It was as if someone has robbed you of your free will.
  • “You would not dare!” but even as I said those words, I knew I was only trying to convince myself and he only confirmed everything when he smirked my way, “If you dare princess, try me.” With those words he kissed the spot where my mark would be once I let my mate mark me, turned his back on me and leave the kitchen.
  • What did I get myself into with this stubborn mate of mine?
