Chapter 1 Your Father Is The Richest Person In Jacaster

  • “Mom, Dad, we're finally getting rid of that jinx, Stephanie! Why hasn't her ride arrived yet? They aren't backing out, are they?”
  • Stephanie Yarbrough remained indifferent as she listened to the gloating voices drifting up from downstairs, her exquisite and fair white face betraying no emotion as she descended the stairs.
  • At the sight of her coming downstairs, a hint of awkwardness inexorably showed on the face of her adoptive father, Terence Yarbrough. “All right, all right, would you two zip it?”
  • “I'm only speaking the truth. Why can't I talk?” Lilith Yarbrough, her adoptive sister, pouted in aggravation. “If it weren't for Grandma insisting on taking her in previously, the jinx would have been driven out of our house long ago!”
  • Amelia Zeller, her adoptive mother, glared at her with equal disdain, “Stephanie, you were taken home by Mom in the first place. You've never been one of us, but we raised you all these years, so you owe us a debt of kindness. Even now, we don't expect you to repay us. All we ask is that you don't bother us anymore. From now on, there's no relation whatsoever between us!”
  • Though they were in the countryside, their family was relatively wealthy. They were one of the prominent families in the village, and life was quite good for them.
  • They had heard rumors that Stephanie's biological parents were so poor they could barely afford to eat. Worse still, there were five sons in the family. Thus, Amelia certainly didn't want to be pestered by a family of paupers.
  • “As you wish,” Stephanie replied nonchalantly, fixing a cold look on the woman with her beautiful upturned eyes. “I hope you won't regret this later.”
  • Regret it?
  • Amelia reacted as if she had just heard the biggest joke in the world, the disdain on her face intensifying. “Of course not. Now, get out of my sight and return to your pauper family. Don't stick around here!”
  • Lilith also found things utterly amusing. She placed her hands on her hips, her voice sharp and shrill as she added, “The moment you return, Stephanie, your poor parents will marry you off to some old bachelor in Doveston in exchange for a betrothal gift. The old bachelors in Doveston are old and ugly, so don't come crying to us when that happens!”
  • She had taken a dislike to Stephanie for a long time. Although they both grew up in the countryside, the latter had a stunning countenance. Moreover, her skin was infuriatingly flawless and never seemed to tan, no matter how much it was exposed to the sun.
  • The mere sight of it alone aroused envy.
  • “Lilith, don't bother talking to her anymore!” Amelia snorted at Stephanie. “Just go. Scram. From now on, we have nothing to do with you. Don't shamelessly stick around our house anymore!”
  • The chill in Stephanie's eyes intensified. She picked up her backpack from the couch, turned around, and left without a backward glance.
  • At just that moment, a male voice came through her earpiece.
  • “Boss, the car that came to pick you up is stuck on an earth slope near the front of the village.”
  • “Okay,” Stephanie replied nonchalantly.
  • In her earpiece, Ulric Jones lambasted indignantly, “Terence and his family are really ingrates to kick you out just like that. Don't they realize their comfortable life currently is all thanks to you?”
  • Terence and his family are worthless! If it weren't for Boss, they would never have been able to enjoy such a comfortable life all these years!
  • Stephanie's captivating eyes were slightly lowered. Everything she did was for the sake of Mabel, her adoptive grandmother.
  • Mabel took her in, treated her like her own granddaughter, and was the kindest person to her in the entire family. With her gone now, there was no reason for her to stay there anymore.
  • “Boss, I'll teach them a little lesson on your behalf!” Ulric said, seeing red.
  • No sooner had his words rang out than a thunderous crash echoed behind Stephanie. The Yarbrough family's charming little bungalow collapsed in an instant. Amelia and Lilith were struck on the head and passed out right then and there.
  • At the village entrance, a black Ferrari was stuck in the mud deeply, unable to move. The butler, Raymond Leedon, had anxiety written all over his face, but there was nothing he could do.
  • “Get out of the car.”
  • Stephanie's pale fingers tapped lightly against the car window. As Raymond looked up, he was met by the sight of her exquisite face.
  • The girl was as pretty as a picture, her upturned eyes shimmering captivatingly. She was so stunning that she almost didn't seem real.
  • Moreover, traces of his master and mistress were visible from her features.
  • A flash of amazement flittered past through Raymond's eyes. Instantly, he was convinced that the girl standing before him was the person he was supposed to pick up.
  • He immediately stepped out of the car obediently. Stephanie then took the driver's seat without hesitation. Manipulating the steering wheel with both hands, she effortlessly drove the car out of the mud, a feat Raymond had struggled with for half an hour.
  • “You're incredible, Ms. Stephanie!” Raymond exclaimed in astonishment.
  • Despite being an experienced driver for many years, he couldn't extricate the car stuck in the mud. Yet, she managed to do it effortlessly.
  • “Let's go.”
  • With her bag, Stephanie went into the back seat, crossing her long and slender legs casually in the posture of a big shot.
  • “But Ms. Stephanie, Mr. and Mrs. Yarbrough instructed me to deliver these gifts to your adoptive parents for raising you.”
  • Stephanie lifted her captivating upturned eyes to stare at him, her tone mild. “Are you going to listen to me or them?”
  • The girl standing before him was young, yet the aura she exuded was incredibly intimidating.
  • “Y-You, Ms. Stephanie!” Raymond swallowed nervously. “Then, I'll drive you back to Jacaster now, Ms. Stephanie!”
  • Jacaster?
  • Stephanie raised an eyebrow lazily, recalling that the car's license plate was a special Jacaster license plate. In Jacaster, securing a serial format license plate wasn't just a matter of money but also required a certain amount of influence.
  • Even though she had no idea where Amelia and the others heard that her biological parents were destitute, she could then affirm that they were undoubtedly not as Amelia had described.
  • “Okay.”
  • At her aloof demeanor, Raymond couldn't help but wish to engage in further conversation with her.
  • “Ms. Stephanie, Mr. and Mrs. Yarbrough initially intended to come and pick you up themselves. However, Mrs. Yarbrough had a relapse of an old illness, leaving your father with no choice but to stay and take care of her. Your brothers are currently not at home. So, I was sent to pick you up! Throughout the years, Mr. and Mrs. Yarbrough constantly searched for you, Ms. Stephanie. And now, they've finally found you...”
  • Stephanie listened to his ramblings quietly. That made Raymond increasingly fond of her.
  • Ms. Stephanie is truly a delight! When Mr. and Mrs. Yarbrough meets her, they're bound to fall in love with her!
  • By the time they arrived at the Yarbrough residence, it was already night. The Yarbrough family's private mansion was located in the wealthiest neighborhood in Jacaster.
  • As the car slowly came to a stop before the gates of the mansion, Raymond's voice rang out.
  • “Ms. Stephanie, we have arrived.”
  • “Okay.”
  • Stephanie nodded, her cool gaze falling on the signage above the door. It bore the word “Yarbrough,” the writing style dominant and artistic.
  • She recognized it as a work of Troy Watson, a calligraphy master. His creations are highly sought-after and sell for astronomical prices.
  • Her red lips curved upward, her tone nonchalant. “My family is quite wealthy.”
  • “Of course. Ms. Stephanie, your father is the richest person in Jacaster!”
