Chapter 8 Do Not Follow Him

  • Whenever other men complimented Wendy on her beauty, Finley would wear a frown. But when Caspian brazenly teased her, Finley surprisingly responded with laughter and playful rebukes.
  • The fact that a single phone call could prompt Caspian to take a several-hour flight to attend a birthday banquet in Yarburn made Wendy weigh the relationship and significance between Finley and Caspian silently.
  • They had known each other for many years. Wendy had been with Caspian for three years, yet she had never heard him mention a person named Finley.
  • The two of them had traveled to many places, and everywhere they went, they were always warmly welcomed. Yet, Caspian had never brought her to Yarburn.
  • From the looks of it, they probably only got to know each other in recent years.
  • True friendships were the ones formed during youth, while friendships in adulthood were often based on similar tastes or mutual benefits.
  • Wendy was seated next to Finley, his hand gently clasping hers as he engaged in a conversation with Caspian, who was on his left.
  • Everyone in the room treated Caspian with courtesy, addressing him as “Mr. Caspian” instead of his name. This only reinforced Wendy's belief about what she had in mind. Caspian was only familiar with Finley, and at most, he was merely polite to everyone else.
  • Wendy had no choice but to weigh the pros and cons. Caspian, the third generation of a wealthy family, was nothing but trouble aside from his money.
  • Just earlier in the restroom, the reason why Caspian agreed to go out wasn't because he suddenly had a change of heart. It was because he overheard her telling Finley that her period had started.
  • After the female staff left, Caspian washed his hands, saying, “You're not allowed to sleep with Finley.”
  • In the throes of intense pain, Wendy blurted out, “Even if I were to share a bed with a dog, it's none of your business!”
  • Caspian caught sight of Wendy in the mirror behind him and said in a leisurely manner, “You're mad at me for leaving you behind in the past, and I can understand if you want to vent your anger. If you're with someone else, I'll assume it's just your way of getting back at me. But remember, this is all fun and games. Don't take it too seriously.”
  • Wendy gritted her teeth. Not waiting for her response, Caspian turned around, staring into her eyes. “Your period usually lasts six days, so I'm giving you six days. Break up with him yourself. If you can't bring yourself to do it, I'll do it for you.”
  • After he finished speaking, he walked out the door without a backward glance, utterly unconcerned about being discovered by anyone.
  • Caspian's actions conveyed that he still had lingering feelings for Wendy, perhaps even deeply rooted ones. However, Wendy was not oblivious. She knew that only a dog would trust its master again after being abandoned once, but she was a human.
  • She must have been out of her mind to equate a man's possessiveness with affection.
  • Hence, Wendy had to figure out her way out. She couldn't just sit back and accept her fate.
  • Perhaps she should simply lure Finley into bed tonight. When his masculine possessiveness surged, she would take the initiative to discuss the matters she had previously talked about with Caspian.
  • However, this move was incredibly risky, akin to placing a woman and a buddy on the same scale.
  • If she won the gamble, Finley would realize that she had been pretending all along, that she wasn't as innocent and pure as she had portrayed herself to be in the past few months.
  • If she were to lose the gamble, it went without saying, Finley wouldn't want her anymore. Knowing that she had intentionally slept with Finley, Caspian could very well be her end.
  • After much consideration, Wendy decided not to confront Finley directly, as their relationship was still too fragile.
  • Engrossed in her thoughts, Wendy didn't expect Caspian to suddenly bypass Finley to speak to her. “Hey.”
  • Wendy felt guilty, her heart skipping a beat in fright. Her timid demeanor only served to soften Finley's heart, compelling him to tighten his grip on her hand.
  • In the dimly lit private room, Caspian was looking at Wendy. There was a cacophony of singing in the background. Leaning in closer, he asked, “Do you want to go to Oceandale together?”
  • Wendy was tense all over, not uttering a single word.
  • Caspian was a native of Oceandale, yet he owned companies in both Yebrevania and Hungtingdorf, consequently splitting his time between the two.
  • Years ago, Wendy was studying in Yebrevania, which led to her acquaintance with Caspian.
  • Oceandale was a place she knew like the back of her hand, having frequented Caspian's family casino dozens of times.
  • Wendy had no idea what Caspian was planning to do. She believed that silence was the best response.
  • Finley turned his head, whispering into Wendy's ear, “Do you want to go to Oceandale? I can take you there.”
  • After hearing everything, Wendy leaned in toward Finley's ear and whispered, “I have to go to work. You guys should go ahead.”
  • Finley lowered his head. From Caspian's perspective, it seemed like he was about to bite Wendy's ear.
  • Caspian thought he could tolerate this level of pretense, but it turned out, he might not understand himself at all.
