Chapter 7 For Wendy

  • Wendy was in so much pain that she broke out in a cold sweat. Caspian wanted to carry her out, but she mustered her last bit of strength to push him away.
  • To make matters worse, a female staff came knocking outside the restroom door. “Ms. Dawson.”
  • Crouched in the corner, Wendy gritted her teeth and responded, “I'm here...”
  • Upon hearing the unusual tone in her voice, the female staff quickly said, “I've brought you some sanitary pads. Are you all right? Can you open the door?”
  • Wendy leaned against the wall to get up. A few seconds later, she unlocked the door.
  • The door was cracked open, and the female staff saw Wendy, her face white as a sheet. She asked, “Do you need any help?”
  • Wendy accepted the sanitary pad, responding in a soft voice, “Thank you. Could you please make me a cup of hot chocolate?”
  • “All right.”
  • Wendy closed the door again. The female staff remained oblivious to the fact that there was another person behind the door all along.
  • After the female staff had stepped out, she was called over by Finley. She mentioned that Wendy seemed rather unwell, prompting Finley to rise from his seat.
  • His buddy nearby joked, “Can't sit still for a moment, can you? Are you afraid she might run away?”
  • Another person chimed in, “Go and check on her quickly. She might disappear.”
  • Finley turned a deaf ear, striding away toward the area behind the screen.
  • No one was surprised. After all, Finley had been pursuing Wendy for three whole months. Finley was the only person in Yarburn who could be referred to as the most eligible scion. He could have anyone he wanted, but Wendy was the one who remained indifferent to his advances.
  • Finley had tried every trick in the book, from persuasion to coercion, but still couldn't win over Wendy. He was utterly captivated by her, and now that he finally had her within his grasp after so much effort, it had only been a few days. How could he not cherish her?
  • Finley rounded a screen over four meters high, just in time to bump into Caspian emerging from the restroom. Their eyes met.
  • Finley asked, “You've been in there for so long. Are you dealing with hemorrhoids or constipation?”
  • Caspian was even more ruthless. “What's that got to do with you?”
  • Just as Finley was about to speak, another restroom door swung open, and Wendy emerged from within.
  • Finley immediately went over, his voice gentle as he asked, “The staff mentioned you weren't feeling well. Are you okay now?”
  • Wendy's face naturally displayed her discomfort, but she managed to smile and shake her head, saying, “I'm fine.”
  • Finley said, “If you're not feeling well, let me take you home. Don't force yourself.”
  • Wendy took the initiative to grasp Finley's hand, softly saying, “It's your birthday today. I'd like to spend a bit more time with you.”
  • Finley was indeed quite disappointed before. He didn't mind not having her in the car, initially planning to do that when they got home that night. However, who would have thought she would be on her period? It felt like she was messing with him.
  • Yet, just moments ago, the staff had mentioned her looking unwell. Now, Wendy was making a friendly gesture. This immediately stirred Finley's gentle and caring nature.
  • As he held onto Wendy gently, his voice softened. “All right. They've gone to make some hot chocolate for you. If there's anything else you want to eat, just tell them.”
  • Caspian stood two meters away, and the lighting was dim. The expressions on the faces of the three people seemed to be veiled, yet the tightly clasped hands of Wendy and Finley were hard to ignore.
  • Suddenly, Caspian broke the silence. “Is this the same girl from the car earlier?”
  • Finley and Wendy turned their attention to Caspian at the same time. Finley said, “This is my girlfriend, Wendy Dawson.”
  • Caspian's gaze fell upon Wendy's face, obscure and unreadable. He remained silent.
  • Surprisingly, Wendy played her part well. She gave a slight nod and said, “Hello.”
  • “My name is Caspian Sachs.”
  • Before Wendy could speak, Finley interjected, “No need to remember his name. He's not from Yarburn, so you won't see him often.”
  • He was earnest yet teasing, making it hard to distinguish between sincerity and jest for a moment.
  • Wendy fell silent, going with the flow. On the other hand, Caspian suddenly grinned, teasing, “If you put it that way, then I guess I'm stuck with you. I'll move my household registry to Yarburn tomorrow.”
  • Finley said, “Once you've eaten the cake, hurry up and leave. I don't plan on you sticking around.”
  • Caspian stated, “Who's here for you? I came for Wendy.”
