Chapter 5 I Still Love You

  • Wendy was pressed against the icy wall, and Caspian was genuinely furious. His hand, gripping her wrist, was like a vice.
  • In a startling realization, Wendy found that at that moment, her thoughts were not of Caspian but rather a fear of leaving a mark on her wrist, unsure of how she would explain it to Finley.
  • “Speak up!”
  • Caspian was glaring at Wendy's waist, his gaze murderous.
  • Given Wendy's temperament from a few years ago, she would have already cursed Caspian's entire family. But now, she had learned to lower her head and to show weakness.
  • She whispered, “Let go. You're hurting me.”
  • Caspian was consumed by his rage, yet Wendy's words still had the power to pull him back from the brink of irrationality.
  • Especially upon seeing her face pressed against the wall, Caspian slowly released his grip. Wendy quickly pulled her wrist back, pulling up her underwear and retreating to the furthest corner away from him.
  • Glancing down at her wrist, Wendy frowned. Her skin was pale, indeed showing traces of finger marks.
  • Caspian stepped forward. “Let me take a look.”
  • Wendy suddenly looked up. “Who do you think you are? Do you see me as a dog you've kept? Even if it's a dog you've had for three years, if you cared about her at all, you'd at least say goodbye when you decide to abandon her. A house, a car... Are you treating me like a mistress, using me when you want and discarding me when you're done?”
  • Her eyes held resentment, grudges, disdain, and even a hint of sarcasm. But the one thing conspicuously absent was the unrequited love she once harbored.
  • Caspian's heart skipped a beat. He had a belated realization that Wendy's previous display of vulnerability was but an act, and her show of weakness was not to soften his heart, but it was for... Finley.
  • Reflecting on the situation, Caspian managed to suppress his anger, speaking in a low voice. “I was wrong before. I won't make excuses. You can punish me however you like, as long as it makes you feel better.”
  • Wendy reckoned the man's words were deceptive, but unfortunately for him, she was no longer naive; she was immune to Caspian's deceit.
  • Bearing the mockery, Wendy responded calmly, “I don't owe you anything, and you don't owe me anything. Our issues were settled four years ago. Please, Mr. Sachs, don't seek me out in the future.”
  • She made a move to leave, but Caspian, with a stride of his long legs, blocked her path.
  • Wendy looked up, Caspian's gaze slightly lowered. “If you had taken the house and car, perhaps we could have settled everything between us. But you refused.”
  • Their eyes met, and Caspian's voice was both low and steady. “You love me.”
  • Wendy wanted to deny without hesitation, but she suddenly found herself still feeling a pang in her heart.
  • Her expression changed for just a fraction of a second before Caspian had her backed into a corner once again.
  • Wendy reached out to push him away, but Caspian gripped her wrist. This time, his hold was tight but not painful.
  • Wendy, flushed with anger, demanded, “Let go!”
  • Caspian lowered his gaze, speaking softly. “Wends... I'm back. I promise, no matter what happens in the future, I will never leave you behind again.”
  • Wendy frowned. “I don't like you. Don't flatter yourself!”
  • Caspian said, “Wends, I'm still in love with you.”
  • He leaned in to kiss Wendy, but she turned her face away, ready to lash out. Just then, a familiar male voice echoed from outside the door. “Babe?”
  • It was Finley.
  • Upon being caught, Wendy instantly turned pale, looking as though she was caught in an affair. She didn't dare to respond, let alone move.
  • Caspian was very close to Wendy, his voice almost a whisper in her ear as he asked, “Do you think he would believe that you could remain pure for him?”
  • As Wendy returned to her senses, her gaze shifted abruptly from panic to a piercing sharpness.
  • Caspian's heart was deeply wounded, yet he still managed to jest, “If you seal my lips, I won't be able to utter a word.”
  • Wendy remained rigid, unmoving. Suddenly, Caspian lifted his head, his mouth opening as if he was about to speak any second.
  • In a desperate frenzy, Wendy, who was cornered like a trapped dog, yanked him down with all her might.
  • She didn't kiss Caspian. Instead, Caspian lowered his head in a smooth motion, nestling into her neck, nipping and gnawing at her throat.
  • At the same time, Finley pressed down on the door handle. “Babe?”
  • Wendy was huddled in the corner, her arms wrapped around Caspian's neck. She spoke up. “I'm here.”
