Chapter 3 Reunited Unexpectedly
- After a prolonged silence, Wendy managed to overcome her initial shock. She forced herself to remain calm.
- “Let's skip the reminiscing. We're better off starting anew. Nice to meet you, Mr. Sachs. I'm Finley's girlfriend.”
- Upon hearing those words, Caspian Sachs immediately lifted the corners of his mouth. His face, which was already brimming with roguish charm, instantly took on a sarcastic expression.
- “Have you two been intimate yet?”
- Without a second thought, Wendy retorted, “He's my boyfriend. What do you think?”
- The mockery on Caspian's face intensified. “Really? When we were together before, you kept me waiting for a month, not wanting me to take things further.”
- Wendy's heart skipped a beat. She found it difficult to decipher the exact point of ridicule in Caspian's tone. Was it about the length of time or whether she had slept with Finley?
- Regardless of the situation, Wendy didn't hesitate in her response. She firmly retorted, “We've already broken up, so why should it matter to you if I'm sleeping with my current partner or not? Does who I sleep with have anything to do with you?”
- Caspian didn't lose his temper. Instead, he casually remarked, “Who said we broke up?”
- Wendy's pupils suddenly constricted.
- Caspian dismissed the idea nonchalantly. “I just had to take a trip abroad for some business and ended up staying a bit longer. When did I ever mention breaking up to you?”
- Wendy was nearly driven to the point of utter frustration, but considering the situation she was in at the moment, she quickly composed herself.
- The conversation wasn't going well, not a single word more was needed. Wendy remained silent, purposefully averting her gaze, attempting to sidestep Caspian to leave.
- Caspian grabbed her arm, swiftly lifting her onto the restroom counter. Wendy was taken aback, her leg raised in an attempt to kick. However, Caspian anticipated her move, positioning himself between her legs before she could react.
- He leaned in to kiss her, but at that very moment, Wendy's hand landed on his face with a crisp, resounding slap.
- Caspian's face was even more precious than his status; so many people were drawn to him over the years. However, only Wendy had the audacity to lay a hand on him.
- Caspian's expression changed for a moment, but he quickly pulled up the corners of his lips, saying in an almost perverse manner, “That's the spirit. Go on.”
- Wendy had seen people begging for money but never for a beating. Today, the situation was a perfect example of “ask and you shall receive.” Without hesitation, she raised her right hand once again.
- However, her wrist was seized by Caspian. She lifted her left hand, which was also promptly caught by Caspian, leaving both her wrists held firmly in his grasp.
- Seeing the fierce glint in her eyes, Caspian didn't get angry. Instead, he laughed. “Still angry, are you?”
- He was a man of action, not words, yet in an unprecedented move, he found himself explaining to Wendy, “A few years ago, something unexpected happened in my family. It was so sudden that I didn't have a chance to inform you, and I couldn't contact you while I was abroad. Didn't I have someone reach out to you? The house has been transferred to your name, and the car's been left for you too. If there's anything you need, just call that person. Have you ever seen anyone as generous as this when parting ways?”
- As Caspian spoke, Wendy seemed to see herself from four years ago, on the brink of insanity.
- One day, she suddenly found herself unable to reach Caspian. His phone went from being switched off to completely inactive, and even his company in Yebrevania had changed its legal representative overnight.
- Wendy was in a state of utter panic, terrified that something might have happened to Caspian. She tried everything she could to find him, including visiting his usual dining spots and entertainment venues, and even reaching out to his acquaintances.
- Everyone remained tight-lipped, claiming ignorance. It was as though Caspian had vanished into thin air.
- A month later, someone sought out Wendy on their own accord, presenting her with the keys to a Porsche Panamera, along with a property transfer contract for a residence located on the outskirts of Yebrevania.
- Wendy's initial reaction was to inquire about Caspian's whereabouts, but the person adamantly claimed to have no knowledge of Caspian.
- At that moment, Wendy had a sudden realization. Caspian hadn't met with misfortune; he was simply tired of her and didn't want her anymore.
- Wendy tore up the contract and threw the car keys into the sea. She had once fantasized, wondering if one day, Caspian would suddenly appear before her, telling her that he was just joking and that he only wanted to test whether she was after his money or not.
- At the age of twenty-one, she wasn't pretending to be naive. She was genuinely so.
