Chapter 2 Virtuous Woman

  • Previously, Finley and Wendy nearly began to bang each other on the road. The experienced driver, sensing the situation, automatically slowed down. As a result, by the time the two of them arrived at the amusement center, everyone else had already gotten there.
  • Besides the group of men she met during the dinner earlier, there were a few more female companions now.
  • Each girl was attractive in her own right, but none could compare when placed next to Wendy.
  • Finley was possessive, disliking when other men approached Wendy. His buddies, with discerning eyes, sent their female companions to greet Wendy instead.
  • The way the ladies kept complimenting Wendy, calling her beautiful, brought a smile to Finley's face. Clearly, their flattery had hit the mark.
  • Wendy looked pretty shy. Yeah, there was definitely some acting. After all, the more shy she looked, the cuter and more innocent she seemed. But aside from the acting, she was really feeling a little shy. She honestly didn't know how to handle all the flattery from these people.
  • She was like a demon cloaked in human skin, pretending to be human under the watchful eyes of everyone, constantly in fear that someone might reveal her true identity... No, not just a demon, but the devil.
  • Finley noticed her discomfort and, lowering his voice, asked, “What's wrong?”
  • Wendy tilted her head back, whispering into Finley's ear, “I need to use the restroom.”
  • Finley laughed, taking her hand as they stepped into the elevator to ascend to the top floor.
  • The amusement center with the highest consumer spending in all of Yarburn was also one of the Brown family's many businesses. The top-level VIP lounge spanned over a hundred square meters. There were even multiple restrooms.
  • Wendy entered one of the restrooms, and once she locked the door behind her, she didn't use the toilet as expected. All she wanted was a moment of solitude to gather her thoughts.
  • It's fine if their voices are just similar.
  • But what if it really is him?
  • Images of absurd scenarios couldn't help but surface in Wendy's mind. She remembered how he had driven her to the hospital with her lower body in shreds and how she had once made him bleed from his nose. They had spent two days and two nights in such wildness.
  • Wherever they were - in bed, on the couch, in the car, even in the bathtub - it was all standard procedure for Wendy. When she was with that man, any place was fair game, even at the funeral of his own uncle.
  • Back then, Wendy saw tears fall from behind his sunglasses. She assumed he was overwhelmed with grief and stealthily stole a kiss from him in the restroom. However, he responded by roughly lifting her skirt, a rare display of crudeness. She cried so much that she lost her voice.
  • It was only later that Wendy discovered that his tears were genuine, but his sorrow was feigned. He couldn't wait for his dear uncle to depart this world.
  • All that had happened in the past, Wendy thought she had almost forgotten. After all, it had been nearly five years since they last met, and she had been involved in several relationships during that time.
  • Just as she was deep in thought, the restroom doorknob suddenly turned. Startled, Wendy blurted out anxiously, “Someone's in here.”
  • Outside, no one was speaking, and Wendy didn't dare to stay inside for too long. As she was washing her hands, she finally came to understand something.
  • Back then, she was genuinely in love, and she was the one who got dumped. What was her fault in all of this? What did she have to feel ashamed about?
  • Moreover, even if it was really him, it was the perfect opportunity to show him that she wasn't unwanted. On the contrary, many were vying for her attention.
  • After turning off the tap, Wendy dried her hands with a paper towel and unlocked the door to leave. She had only pushed the door open a fraction when suddenly a figure appeared from behind it. Without uttering a word, the figure pushed Wendy back into the restroom.
  • Wendy was taken aback, finding it hard to believe that anyone would dare to brazenly flirt with Finley's woman. Even pretending to be drunk wouldn't excuse such behavior. However, her thoughts were interrupted when she finally got a clear view of the person standing before her.
  • The restroom door was locked again. This time, it enclosed two people within.
  • Wendy lifted her gaze, her eyes settling on the man's face in front of her. While other women would be dazzled, she was terrified.
  • The man also fixed his gaze on Wendy's face, his eyes trailing from her brows and eyes, gliding past her perky nose, her tender pink lips, and then to her knee-length formal dress.
  • Wendy felt her skin prickle under his scrutinizing gaze. After what felt like an eternity, the man finally spoke. His voice was neutral, betraying no emotion. “It's been a few years. Now, you're playing the part of a virtuous woman?”
