Chapter 2 The Abilities Of Winston
- In a three-story mansion in Jadeborough's suburbs, guests had packed the living room and were laughing and chatting away.
- Amidst all the fun, a beautiful young lady sitting next to a handsome young man suddenly stood up with the phone in her hand. “W-Winston?”
- Upon hearing the name, silence instantly befell the room as a cloud hung over everyone.
- Despite being visibly flustered, the pretty lady continued, “Rehabilitation center? A-Are you back, Winston?”
- “Cut the crap! You'd better think of how to explain yourself while you're on your way here!”
- Everyone listened in stunned silence as Winston's cold, stern voice reverberated through the room.
- The handsome young man finally stood from the couch, his brow knitted into a frown. “Is that Winston? Has he gotten out of prison?”
- “Yes! What should we do now?” the pretty lady answered as she stared blankly ahead. “Also, he wants to meet me at the rehabilitation center. Do you think he has found out about everything?”
- The young man narrowed his eyes as a knowing smile tugged at his lips. “So what if he has? What's done is done. As long as there's no evidence, we don't have to worry! Tell you what, I'll go with you and see what kind of attitude he has. Worse come to worst, we'll just lay all our cards on the table!”
- As it turned out, the woman and man were none other than Winston's wife, Winnie Lohan, and his buddy, Hugh Gabel.
- Before anyone else could say anything, Winston's mother-in-law, Emily Newman, suddenly stood up with a look of hesitation. “Hugh, what about the engagement date?”
- In fact, their families had come together to discuss the engagement between Winnie and Hugh.
- The initial plan was to settle the couple's engagement while waiting for Winston's release from prison. Once that happened, Winnie would then divorce him and marry Hugh immediately.
- Unfortunately, Winston's sudden return caught everyone off guard and foiled their plan.
- “We'll meet Winston first and continue our discussion at a later time,” Hugh replied. “It's not a bad thing that he's back now. That way, we can make him leave Winnie as soon as possible and avoid any future troubles.”
- “Yes, that sounds good. We shall do as you say then!”
- Meanwhile, Winston had just hung up the phone on his end when Anna's nurse rushed into the room with an elderly man in tow. “Ah, you're Winston Coldrell, aren't you? After hearing so much about you from Mr. Ziegler, I'm glad we can finally meet in person!” the man exclaimed.
- Colton Ginsel, director of the rehabilitation center, was spritely for his age as he wore a warm, good-natured smile. Even from afar, it was clear that he was excited to see and greet Winston.
- The latter returned the smile as he walked up to shake Colton's hand and express his gratitude. “Mr. Ginsel, thank you for looking after Anna for the past six months! Thank you so much!”
- Based on the fact that Colton could let Anna remain in the rehabilitation center despite the overdue fees, Winston already knew he must be a genuinely kind person.
- Besides, from what Daniel had shared, Colton's medical skills were superb. It was all thanks to his prescriptions and treatments that Anna managed to stay alive until now.
- “Mr. Coldrell, I'm sure you're aware of your sister's condition. What are your plans from here on out?” Colton asked before gazing sadly at Anna in the wheelchair.
- Winston sighed. “Of course, I'd let her continue with her treatment. Mr. Ginsel, I hear that you're skilled in traditional medicine. May I borrow a set of silver needles from you?”
- “Silver needles? What do you need them for, Mr. Coldrell?”
- “To treat my sister!”
- “Do you know medicine too, Mr. Coldrell?” Colton asked curiously.
- Winston smiled, a determined glint in his eyes as he gently stroked Anna's head. “Yes. I know a little.”
- Anna has suffered so much because of a rash decision I made four years ago. I'll do everything I can to find a cure for her, even if it takes up the rest of my life! I know I can do this. I'm confident in my abilities!
- Upon hearing that, the nurse beside Colton couldn't help but blurt out, “Mr. Coldrell, Mr. Ginsel is one of the most famous doctors in Jadeborough and the neighboring states. He and some of his friends have put in a lot of effort to prevent Anna's condition from worsening. Please don't do anything reckless!”
- “That's enough,” Colton replied. “A doctor should never stop learning. Besides, Mr. Coldrell might have a good treatment plan. Let's give it a shot!”
- Instead of being condescending like the other veterans in the medical field, Colton was amiable and not at all upset with a younger peer's suggestions.
- Ultimately, his open-mindedness only made Winston admire him even more.
- Since Anna was about to undergo treatment, she was quickly taken back to her room.
- Whether it was because of Daniel's friendship with Colton or Anna's unique condition, Winston was grateful to know that the rehabilitation center had given his sister a private room.
- The nurse taking care of Anna was highly dubious of Winston's abilities. After sending a text to her chat group, it didn't take long before the rest of the staff, who were idling about, decided to gather around the room.
- As soon as Winston received the silver needles, he ignored his surroundings and got down to work.
- He opened the packet of needles with a graceful flick and sent three of them flying out to pierce Anna's cheeks and lower abdomen.
- After having been in a coma in the rehabilitation center for half a year, Anna had long become a medical pincushion for Colton and other doctors. Alas, none of their treatments had worked out.
- Soon, everyone who had initially scoffed at Winston couldn't help but gape at his graceful and flawless needling technique.
- The next second, he took out the fourth needle and carefully inserted it between Anna's brows.
- With the crowd still staring at him in utter disbelief, Winston lifted his hand and grazed against all four needles.
- Hum!
- To everyone's surprise, a strange hum rang out almost immediately.
- The next thing they knew, the four needles started vibrating, and halos gradually appeared on top of them.
- As if that wasn't shocking enough, the halos danced and flickered away, projecting visions of a dragon, tiger, bird, and tortoise!
- Some people in the crowd even swore they could hear the roars and chirps of the various animals.
- Needless to say, the phenomenal scene left everyone wide-eyed and slack-jawed with awe.
- After a few seconds, the four halos converged into a beam and shot into Anna's forehead.
- With that, the four silver needles rapidly turned black.
- “What's going on? Has she been poisoned?”
- Of course, anyone with common sense would know what the blackening of silver needles indicated. Even though there might be other factors at play, poison would undoubtedly be at the core of it.
- Winston stared at the needles and went on to slowly remove one. After taking a whiff of it, a glint flashed across his eyes.
- I knew it! That adulterous pair is utterly vicious!
- Colton, who couldn't take his eyes off the needle, finally snapped out of his daze and turned to the latter with a perplexed look. “Mr. Coldrell, what has your sister been poisoned with?”
- I've thought about this being a case of poisoning before and even tried treatments that could help to flush out the toxins. But no matter what I tried, I never could find any definitive proof for it! This young man, however, only used four needles to determine the cause. Could it be because of the technique he used?
- “She's been poisoned with Red Dust. It's one of the most mysterious poisons and very hard to come by. As such, you can't rely on ordinary methods to detect it,” Winston explained, as though having read Colton's mind.
- Immediately after, he pressed down on several of Anna's pressure points before placing two of his fingers on her forehead and giving it a sudden push.
- A bean-sized drop of pale red liquid instantly seeped out along the needle.
- Seeing that, Winston waved his hand and sent the drop of liquid flying into a bowl on the bedside table.
- The next second, something truly shocking and unbelievable happened.
- The girl who had been in a coma for almost a year actually opened her eyes and blinked!
