Chapter 15 If You Did Nothing
- Jennifer panicked. I'm sure the door was locked! How did she go missing?
- From Anna's current level of intelligence, there was no way she could've opened the door and left on her own.
- “Don't worry, Winston. I'll get the staff to retrieve the surveillance footage!” she reassured.
- With that, Jennifer called the person in charge to get the surveillance footage ready.
- Soon, both of them made their way to the management office.
- Judging from the surveillance footage, not long after they left, a young man approached the door and fiddled with it for a moment before opening it. He then left the house with Anna.
- “That b*stard!”
- Winston's expression darkened when he saw the young man in the footage.
- Jennifer was confused. “You know him?”
- “That's Winnie's younger brother, Lucas!”
- Strangely, when Lucas left the residential area, he was alone. Anna was nowhere to be seen.
- “Anna's still in the residential area!”
- A glint flashed across Winston's eyes, and he suddenly stood up before rushing out of the surveillance room.
- Meanwhile, Jennifer was calmer than him. Once she was sure that Anna hadn't left the residential area, she asked the security guards of the property to help search for Anna.
- In the end, they found Anna in a corner of the residential area.
- Dead plants were everywhere, and there was hardly any light.
- Anna was curled up into a ball like a frightened rabbit. Trembling out of fear, she looked around her in confusion.
- Winston felt like a knife had pierced through his heart when he saw Anna's condition. He wanted to slap himself hard on the face.
- I shouldn't have left her alone at home when she's already in this state!
- Fortunately, nothing had happened to Anna, or he would never forgive himself.
- “Shh... It's okay, Anna. You're safe. You're safe.”
- He hugged her tightly in his arms and softly cradled her head. After some time, she finally stopped trembling, and soft snores were heard.
- “Winston, Anna has fallen asleep,” Jennifer whispered. She had stayed by his side the whole time.
- He lowered his head to look at Anna and saw that the latter's eyes were indeed closed.
- Although she was asleep, one could still see the fear on her face. It was heartbreaking.
- After they returned home and placed Anna on the bed, Jennifer suddenly pointed at Anna's hand. “Winston, what's that in her hand?”
- He looked in the direction that she was pointing and saw that Anna was holding onto a lollipop tightly.
- There was a note wrapped around the lollipop stick.
- Winston furrowed his brows as he opened the note.
- It wrote: Next time, it won't be so simple!
- Those seven words appeared before him, a blatant threat.
- “Winston, what does it mean? Who is that person? Doesn't he have anything better to do?” Jennifer asked after she saw the words on the note.
- His face was solemn, and there was a cold gleam in his eyes. He stressed every single syllable when he spoke.
- “It's Winnie and Hugh!”
- “It's them...”
- She understood what was going on in an instant.
- “They're too evil! I can't believe they're not stopping even after making Anna this way! They're monsters!”
- “They're just giving me a little warning to get me to agree with the divorce as soon as possible. Unfortunately, they have no idea who they're up against! If they wish to have some fun, I'll play along!”
- The corner of Winston's lips curled up, and a glint flashed across his eyes.
- Jennifer replied worriedly, “Hugh's been doing pretty well for the past two years, so he's the center of attention now. To go against him...”
- Despite her incomplete sentence, anyone could tell what she meant.
- “Hmph! He's just a clown that doesn't deserve any respect from me! I'll make him pay bit by bit for taking away what's mine!” Winston chuckled coldly.
- At that moment, his phone suddenly rang.
- The moment the call connected, Hugh's mocking voice emanated from the other side. “Winston, are you ready for the divorce? We've already prepared everything for the engagement ceremony. All that's left is you! Oh! There's something that I forgot to tell you. I'll be celebrating my company's listing tomorrow together with my engagement party!”
- An icy look flashed across Winston's eyes.
- “Oh? So, are you telling me that I should congratulate you? Here's a little reminder, Hugh. You reap what you sow. Don't dig your own grave.”
- “Hah! What do you mean by that, old buddy? I only wanted you to come to my engagement ceremony. Why are you so mad?” Hugh asked playfully.
- “I'll be there. Let's see if you can handle it.” Winston scoffed before hanging up.
- Anna's only like this because of those two! It's her birthday tomorrow, yet they decided to hold their engagement on the same day. It's definitely not a coincidence! They are truly devious indeed. Unfortunately, they won't be able to have a peaceful engagement ceremony!
- Jennifer was furious after she knew about the situation. “Those b*stards! They're too much! Winston, what do you plan to do?”
- Winston took a deep breath and narrowed his eyes slightly. “Of course, I'll use this opportunity to make the two of them famous!”
- With his capabilities, crushing Winnie and Hugh was just simple as killing two ants. However, he decided to resort to mundane methods since he had returned to a normal life.
- Winston thought about it before calling Colin to ask the latter to find Lucas.
- How can I show up at their engagement ceremony empty-handed?
- Colin was the head of the underground circles in Jipsdale. With his command, the target was found in no time.
- “Dr. Coldrell, that brat is having fun at one of my casinos. How do you want me to deal with him?”
- Hearing that, Winston smirked. “Indeed, a leopard never changes its spots.”
- Lucas was someone who led a dissipated life. Knowing this, Winston decided to strike from this angle.
- “There's no need for that. I'll give you ten million. Let him enjoy himself to the fullest!”
- “Miracle Doctor, are you...”
- At first, Colin was stunned, but he understood what Winston was trying to do the next moment.
- “Got it. I know what to do! Oh, right! Where are you? Dad asked me to pass the Emerald Chalcedony to you as soon as possible, and I also have a piece of good news to tell you!”
- “Oh? Come to my house then!”
- The Emerald Chalcedony was crystal clear and bright green. As light reflected off its surface, it looked like something was moving inside it.
- Winston held it in his hand as he played with it before keeping it carefully. After that, he lifted his head to look at Colin.
- “Did you just say that you have news about the Centennial Peacock Gallbladder?”
- “That's right! I couldn't help but feel that the Centennial Peacock Gallbladder looked familiar when you showed me the picture. After I thought hard about it last night, I remembered that one of my friends has something that looks like the object in the picture. However...”
- Colin hesitated for a short while before he continued, “Something special is going on over there today. You may get into trouble if you go.”
- “Oh? Tell me.”
- There was no way Winston could wait after knowing the news.
- Colin had no intention of hiding it from Winston, so he explained immediately.
- The name of Colin's good friend was Timothy Jarman. The latter was the chairman of Tiger Fury Chamber of Commerce in Kenfort. Therefore, he had control over most of the underground circles in eastern Jadeborough.
- Lately, a strong enemy had returned to seek vengeance and attacked a few of Timothy's properties. They were going to have their final battle at Lakeham Isle in Kenfort that day.
- If Timothy lost, he would need to pass his position as the chairman of Tiger Fury Chamber of Commerce to the enemy and leave Jadeborough.
- “I'm just afraid that Timothy may lose, and the Centennial Peacock Gallbladder may fall into the enemy's hand! If you're not afraid of getting in trouble, let's go there now!”
- Without a second's hesitation, Winston stood up. “Okay! What are we waiting for?”
- As for the trouble Colin spoke of, if Winston was willing to, there really wasn't anything the latter couldn't overcome.
