Chapter 7 Untouchable

  • It was like the calm before the storm.
  • Lilian got angry when she saw that it was the loser from the Seltzer family speaking up. “So what if I taught your mother a lesson? What are you going to do about it, you useless piece of sh*t? Hit me?”
  • Without saying a word, Cassius raised his hand and slapped Lilian across the face.
  • He hit Lilian so hard that she staggered backward, and her face swelled up on the spot.
  • “H-How dare you hit me, Cassius?” Lilian exclaimed while cupping her cheek.
  • What a load of cr*p!
  • Cassius slapped Lilian again, knocking her to the ground this time.
  • Everyone in the Seltzer family was shocked.
  • No one believed that Cassius would actually fight back.
  • Cassius walked up to her and said with a sneer, “You had the audacity to hit my mother, after all. What, do you think you guys are untouchable?”
  • Lilian and her family reached for their phones to call the police while begging Claudia to take action.
  • Claudia slammed her cane on the ground and shouted furiously, “Vanessa, look who you're married to. Are you and your family trying to p*ss me off? Is this how you repay me after everything the family has provided you? Vanessa, the condominium unit that you and your family are staying in belongs to the family! Your family's allowance comes from the Seltzer family too!”
  • “That's right! All it takes is a word from Grandma to have your family lose everything!” Valerie shouted.
  • “I'll call the police right now, Cassius! That ought to wipe the arrogance off your face!” Stephen yelled.
  • “Grandma, Aunt Lilian, I'm sorry. Please don't call the police! I'll swap the invitation,” Vanessa said while bending over to pick up the invitation card.
  • Valerie stepped on the invitation card and said, “Hmph! You're not worthy of holding that invitation card!”
  • Claudia tapped her cane on the ground. “We'll be taking the invitation back as well. Vanessa, you'd better head back and reflect on your mistakes. If you don't do your job well, I'll kick you out of this family!”
  • “You can't do that, Grandma...” Vanessa said tremblingly. She was about to beg Claudia for mercy when Cassius tugged at her arm.
  • “You don't need an invitation, Darling. I'll bring you to the event myself!” he said with a calm smile.
  • What?
  • Everyone in the Seltzer family froze for a few seconds before bursting into laughter.
  • “Haha! Do you really think anyone can just waltz into the Fourwaters Union charity event, Cassius?”
  • “You're just a loser who plays video games all day!”
  • Stephen adjusted his necktie before laughing loudly. “Losers like you are only capable of bluffing! If you manage to get in, then—”
  • “What will you do if I waltz right in, huh?” Cassius cut him off coldly.
  • Stephen gritted his teeth in disdain. “F*ck! If you manage to get in, then I'll apologize to you on my knees!”
  • Cassius chuckled when he heard that.
  • Stephen has no idea what he just got himself into!
  • “The family still has a meeting to conduct. You guys can leave through the back door! I don't want to see any of you right now!” Claudia barked all of a sudden.
  • Just like that, they got kicked out of the mansion.
  • After exiting the mansion, Hansel lost his cool and glared at Cassius. “You worthless piece of sh*t! My daughter suffered all that humiliation because you couldn't keep your mouth shut!”
  • Alanna started crying on the side. “How could you say that, Hansel? What did you even do when you saw your wife get beaten earlier?”
  • Hansel lowered his head in silence and puffed away on a cigarette. “Stephen may be arrogant, but he has what it takes to act that way. I may have failed you and Vanessa, but our son-in-law is even worse! All he could do was make empty promises! How could he possibly bring Vanessa into the venue?” he said with a wry smile after a long pause.
  • Vanessa looked up at him when she heard that. “Stop it, Dad. He didn't do anything wrong! Mom got beaten! He had to step in!”
  • She let out a sigh as she felt tired all of a sudden.
  • She was tired of the Seltzer family's endless humiliation and the uselessness of her husband, both of which were wearing her patience thin.
  • The mere thought of how she had nearly slept with Cassius on a whim the other day made her feel pathetic.
  • She did her best to pull herself together as she started the car.
  • Everyone was quiet after returning home. Cassius kept tapping away on his phone, but no one knew what he was doing.
  • After taking some time to calm down in the bedroom, Vanessa retrieved her red dress from her wardrobe.
  • It pained Alanna to see her do that. “You're still going to that event, Vanessa? You'll just get laughed at by Lilian and the others!”
  • Vanessa let out a sigh as she replied, “I have to go, Mom. This dress was a gift from Fourwaters Union, so I need to return it and explain the situation.”
  • Cassius grabbed the car keys and said, “You're too tired to drive. I'll send you there.”
  • Vanessa simply let out another sigh and went to change in her bedroom without saying a word.
  • Immediately after leaving the house, Cassius pulled out his phone and sent the text: Inform the security guards at the charity event that the gold emerald invitation has been stolen. Have them deal with whoever has it right away! Also, get me the most ordinary position at Fourwaters Union!
  • A short while later, Vanessa emerged from the house in a plain-looking dress and entered the car without saying a word.
  • It wasn't long before the two arrived at Fourwaters Tower.
  • Outside the building, there were fancy cars and wealthy people as far as the eye could see.
  • Fourwaters Union had made its way into Horbah as a means to attack the corporate world of Jinrich. With financial superpowers like Eastwaters Finance and Apricotwoods Group backing them up behind the scenes, this was truly the grandest event they had ever held.
  • The darkness of the night did nothing to conceal the lavishness of the event. Bright and colorful lights lit up the sky as guests flocked into the venue. The young heirs of the wealthy families in Horbah were all gathered in their own respective circles outside the building entrance.
  • A few nosy ones recognized Cassius and Vanessa the moment they got out of the car.
  • “Hey, isn't that the live-in son-in-law of the Seltzer family? He's handsome, but he's a loser!”
  • “Calling him a loser is giving him too much credit. He can't even be considered a man!”
  • “Oh? What happened?”
  • “According to some insider information, Vanessa told Old Mr. Quinton that she was still a virgin in an attempt to marry into the Quinton family!”
  • The socialites, who were all staring at Cassius, burst out laughing when they heard that. “My goodness! So, her man is useless even in bed!”
  • They were still laughing when a blue Maserati convertible pulled up by the roadside.
  • A gorgeous woman in a revealing outfit stepped out of the sports car moments later. Her shiny heels looked incredibly dazzling as she made her way over.
  • “Whoa! Jenny's here! This ought to be interesting!”
  • Jenny Lambert was the heiress of the Lambert family in Horbah. Her father was Daniel Lambert, a director of Fourwaters Union.
  • “What's up with her?”
  • “I don't know. Jenny's family ran into some serious trouble and desperately needed money. I heard she's also trying her best to marry into the Quinton family.”
  • “Does that mean she'll be Vanessa's greatest competitor, then? She's known for having a bad temper, though!”
  • “Now, this is really getting interesting!”
