Chapter 3 Temptation
- Knock! Knock! Knock!
- Cassius, who had just lit a cigarette, quickly closed the chat group before saying, “Come in!”
- Vanessa opened the door and stepped into the study.
- She had just taken a shower and was wearing only a thin robe. Her entire body exuded a faint fragrance from the shampoo she used, and the fair skin on her slender legs looked slightly red after a hot shower.
- Vanessa felt conflicted and reluctant as she looked at Cassius, who was sitting there and staring at her in confusion.
- “What's wrong?” he asked.
- Vanessa swallowed hard and blushed all of a sudden. Whatever courage she had mustered earlier was completely gone.
- She lowered her head and said after a long pause, “Ugh... Why are you smoking again?”
- Cassius quickly put out his cigarette and said with a smile, “We don't have to kiss anyway, so what are you so concerned about?”
- Instead of scolding him the way she usually did, Vanessa gently sat down on the couch next to him.
- Cassius swallowed hard when he saw her slender legs underneath the thin robe and the red camisole she had deliberately put on.
- This was the first time they had such an intimate moment after being married for three years.
- He could feel his body burning as he continued feasting his eyes on her.
- “Our wedding anniversary is coming up soon,” Vanessa said.
- Cassius let out a soft chuckle. “Are you going to give me money again? I don't need any at the moment.”
- Vanessa let out a sigh as a feeling of guilt formed in her heart.
- Cassius had never asked her for money throughout their three years of marriage. He had earned his allowance solely through playing video games. On top of that, he would even surprise her with lots of black credit cards during special occasions.
- Of course, those were virtual credit cards from Monopoly that were made to look like the real thing.
- I suppose virtual currency is the only money he'll ever make his entire life. Even so, he does remember all the important special occasions.
- The mere thought of betraying Cassius made Vanessa feel bad somehow.
- She stood up, walked toward the door, and beckoned at him seductively as she said, “Go take a shower and come to my bedroom.”
- Cassius froze in shock when he heard her say that.
- What happened? Why did Vanessa change so much and try to seduce me?
- The sound of coughing and a bottle of wine being opened came from the bedroom.
- Cassius regained his composure and slowly entered the bathroom.
- After taking a shower, he felt a little conflicted as he stood before Vanessa's bedroom door.
- Cassius had principles that he followed strictly. To him, sex without an emotional connection was simply an act of mutual convenience.
- However, Vanessa, whom he had fallen for, was not that kind of woman.
- Could it be that she has finally opened up to me? I don't see anything that could've caused it, though. Our relationship is extremely platonic. In fact, it's so platonic that it can't be compared to some separated couples! We've both been extremely busy with our own lives over the past three years. Apart from having dates on special occasions, we hardly have any form of emotional connection.
- Cassius was snapped out of his train of thought when Vanessa called out to him from inside the room, “A-Aren't you going to come in?”
- Her voice was coquettish and incredibly seductive.
- Cassius shuddered as he opened the door and entered the bedroom.
- Vanessa was lying on the huge bed with a blanket over her body. Her robe was placed on the side of the bed.
- She was already panting heavily with her face red despite only having a little bit of wine. Cassius could smell the fragrant aroma of the wine from the door.
- He walked up to the bed and placed his hand on the blanket.
- Vanessa straightened her legs underneath the blanket, and her breathing grew increasingly ragged.
- Cassius could sense that she was about to stop breathing at any moment.
- She's feeling afraid and helpless...
- Cassius took a step back and asked, “Vanessa, what did you and Old Mrs. Seltzer talk about over dinner?”
- Vanessa simply kept quiet with a conflicted look on her face.
- She then closed her eyes and yanked the blanket off, revealing the sexy-looking camisole she had on.
- Cassius gently got onto the bed and lay down beside her.
- Vanessa kept her eyes closed and exhaled sharply as she spread her arms.
- Cassius couldn't help but find her awkward body language a little amusing.
- Whatever feelings of lust he had up until that moment was gone in an instant. Something must have happened to her!
- Vanessa stayed still and continued waiting for him to make a move, but Cassius didn't do anything to her.
- The next thing she knew, a warm sensation engulfed her body as he pulled the blanket over her shoulders. “Get a good night's rest. Let me know if anything is wrong. You're my wife. I will help you solve whatever problems you may have,” Cassius whispered into her ear and gently ran his fingers through her hair before leaving the bedroom.
- Vanessa's face burned bright red as she opened her eyes. The sudden realization dawned upon her as she began to sober up, and she covered her face with both hands in embarrassment.
- Oh, my goodness! What have I done? Also, I can't believe that b*stard just walked away like that! Am I not sexy enough for him?
- Although she felt a little embarrassed and defeated, Cassius' words did get her heart racing.
- Those are the words that any woman dreams of hearing.
- He said he'd help me solve whatever problems I may have because I'm his wife... But a gamer like him can't possibly do anything to solve this arranged marriage...
- Vanessa sighed as she rolled around in bed.
- Right then, she received a bunch of WhatsApp messages on her phone.
- Her aunt, Lilian Witterman, was flaunting the invitation that her son-in-law had obtained for the Fourwaters Union charity event.
- Ah, I almost forgot about the invitations!
- Vanessa quickly got dressed, checked the address for Fourwaters Union's headquarters, and ran out of her bedroom.
- She was about to leave the house when she saw Cassius standing at the front door.
- “You've been drinking. You can't drive. I'll give you a ride,” he said while opening the front door.
