- I disguised the puffiness of my eyes with makeup. It didn't show when I arrived at the club, looking as if I truly wanted to be there. Everyone looked fresh, smiling, and gallant. Showering each other with compliments, pampering each other with actions that left only one question. Didn't their faces hurt from pretending so much?
- I was about to leave it all behind, and George suggested it, but I couldn't let him down in front of his partners. That was the agreement, and I didn't want to fail him. He hadn't failed me in what we had agreed upon, and I wanted to reciprocate his willingness to handle things well.
