Chapter 5 Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

  • It kept pouring outside as Jojo curled up in one corner of the hospital stairs, soaked to the skin. Her phone had died, and she had no other destination.
  • She wiped away tears while touching her still flat tummy. "Honey, you entered my life at my lowest. I will gather all my power to go on."
  • She wanted to say sorry to Shawn, but her feet slipped while trying to stand.
  • "Careful! When did you get here?"
  • She recovered her balance before realizing it was Shawn who had held her. He had probably witnessed her crying earlier.
  • Jojo bit her lips. "Are you here to laugh at me? I'll accompany you to visit Grandpa now."
  • "Laugh at you? Do I look as if I have nothing else to do?"
  • He found it amusing that someone who had been sobbing moments ago was now acting resilient as he hadn't been able to stop himself from interfering out of genuine concern for her.
  • She bit her lip in embarrassment, clutching her wet clothing. After getting caught in the rain, her hair and clothes were soaked, which clung to her body and highlighted her petite figure.
  • His heart stirred, involuntarily recalling the woman on the train that night...
  • "Hey! Seen enough already?" Jojo saw his intent look and involuntarily shielded herself, feeling shame and anger. "You think you can just stare like that just because we're husband and wife?"
  • "Tsk! You realize how many rich heiresses are fighting to get into my bed daily? Your status doesn't even entitle you to be comparable."
  • His hurtful words struck her hard, making her want to argue that yes, she wasn't worthy and he was the best. Why force her into marrying him if he was that amazing?
  • However, a masculine-scented coat covered her shoulders, and she looked up to see him leaving. "I'm not interested in flat-chested women, plus Grandpa is awaiting us. Jojo, behave in his presence or regret it."
  • "Fine!" Jojo gave a pout and a sniff, covering herself in the coat that smelled like him and hurrying to catch up.
  • ...
  • Shawn asked for a hairdryer and pristine clothing from the nurse's station and handed them to Jojo, making her feel touched.
  • After blowing her hair and changing, she folded his suit tidily, put it in a pristine bag, and exited the dressing room to the sight of several young nurses whispering among themselves with their backs facing him.
  • "It's Mr. Lawson! He's even better-looking in real life compared to these mags. I wish he could be my kids' dad..."
  • "In your dreams. His potential spouse has to be a high-class girl or at least from a well-educated family. How could he fancy us?"
  • That is true. Jojo couldn't stop a pang of sadness. Shawn was correct as they came from differing backgrounds. She wouldn't even get to talk to him if not for Rupert.
  • "Thanks for the coat…" She headed toward Shawn.
  • "Get rid of it."
  • "What?" Jojo was shocked.
  • Shawn assumed she hadn't heard him and repeated in irritation, "I have obsessive-compulsive disorder. I cannot touch anything someone else has used, so get rid of it!"
  • She felt both embarrassed and indignant. Why was he being unfathomable? She had only worn it once but had been requested to get rid of it. Since the fabric seemed expensive, there was no way she could just get rid of it and so while Shawn was occupied, she stuffed the coat in her canvas bag secretly.
  • At the VIP ward, Shawn was about to go in when Jojo blocked the doorway. "Mr. Lawson, we haven't resolved our agreement yet!"
  • "Which one?"
  • "Well… Mr. Lawson, we decided that I would get into a contract marriage with you for a year, with compensation of hundred million at the end, right?"
  • He studied her calmly. "Continue."
  • "Well, I have to play along with you. I'm swamped with my duties as a hospital nurse daily and have to tidy up..." Jojo rattled off each point before shrugging. "Essentially, playing along with you shall cost extra!"
  • He nearly laughed out loud. He had just felt some pity for her, but now it seemed that everything was part of an attempted plot to siphon more cash! She was so materialistic; only Rupert had been tricked by her guileless act
  • He sneered. "I doubt anyone daring enough to bargain with me exists."
  • "But you shouldn't be so demanding. You earn your money so easily, so how could you understand the struggles of regular folk like us exchanging our time for money..."
  • Shawn's gaze turned cold and menacing, making Jojo hesitate.
  • However, she wondered after some consideration what she had to fear as someone about to die and gritted her teeth. "One act will cost a grand. No exceptions!"
  • "Jojo."
  • "I heard you." Jojo spotted his serious look and pretended to turn away. "If you refuse, I'll mind my own. Nursing at least pays a hundred per day!"
  • However, she was gripped by her collar and pulled backward.
  • His expression was dark and stormy, like he wished to break her neck on the spot. "Say anything in front of Grandpa, and I won't show any hesitation in dismembering you and feeding you to the hospital strays."
  • With that, he hustled her like a baby chick before Rupert. Shawn had accurately predicted her cooperation.
  • "Grandpa, Jojo and I are here to see you." As they entered the room, the frostiness in Shawn's eyes gradually melted away. "Why're you waiting there for? Don't you want to show him our marriage certificate?"
  • "Oh!"
  • Shawn's mood changed faster than flipping pages in a book!
  • Jojo was not daring enough to argue with him and dutifully removed their marriage certificate from her bag. A dozing Rupert came alive immediately at the knowledge of their marriage and clutched the certificate while studying it repeatedly, appearing happier for this than his marriage.
  • "You two are married? Jojo, tell me how this naughty boy treats you. Are you happy with him?"
  • Happy? Ha.
  • Jojo pasted on a smile, secretly feeling as if she was about to be slaughtered. She had not been of age when they registered, though it was not a serious issue as Shawn had added on two years to her age with just verbal instructions, barely passing the legal age for marriage. Money truly could make anyone yield.
  • "Grandpa was questioning you." Shawn suddenly looked down, stroking her hair intimately though his large hand held her neck tightly. If she denied it, he would definitely break her neck instantly.
  • "Of course! Mr. Lawson is young and has plenty of potential, not to mention good-looking. It was love at first sight. Marrying someone like him is the luckiest thing that has happened to me and should be attributed to you!"
  • "Why? It's both your fates." Rupert smiled with satisfaction but caught something immediately. "What did you just call him?"
  • Er...wasn't it Mr. Lawson?
